so mixing it is not done
and declaring 3 times the same controller for one page (don't forget each time you declare you have a new instance) is also not done

Q: JSR 303 / 349 - Bean Validation: addPropertyNode - equivalent in version 1.0

Vogel612Relatively simple probably. The Java 7 documentation for the ConstraintViolationBuilder interface specifies: addNode ConstraintValidatorContext.ConstraintViolationBuilder.NodeBuilderCustomizableContext addNode(String name) Deprecated. since 1.1 - replaced by addPropertyNode(String) and...

this is probably my best-researched SO question up to now...

@Phrancis they aren't here either, and this is the first time I am looking at the code... plus I have to compare 2-80 page reports to make sure a change I made doesn't ruin the report but fixes an issue

@Phrancis That's not what you said yesterday.....

I felt you might pick up on the sarcasm ;)

@rolfl is there any point making UI control disable and then hiding it ? Isn't just one enough ?

@JaDogg That is an 'it depends' answer.
Technically, you should disable the functionality, and the control should respond accordingly.

It's JavaFX, and I see no point of hiding it again.

And, the 'accordingly' depends on the features you want to do... like 'disable' the print button if there is no printer, but hide the 'security' button if you are not an administrator.

As someone who has been writing javascript all day I am offended by that statement :-(

Of course getView returns a boolean instead of a View!

2:30 PM
Today has been productive

@DanPantry LOL... Sorry. It's just notorious for returning a value from everything. CHAINING! ftw

angular.module().config().config()
2
@RubberDuck can confirm.

Yeah... that ^

I had to do something so hacky today - because I'm using two node modules that will concat all my files and minify them, I had to forward declare angular modules
it felt dirty

3 hours ago, by Vogel612
chaining is overvalued...

2:33 PM
@Vogel612 it is, although I think JavaScript gets away with it more than other languages

@RubberDuck is getView,getInsert bad as well ? it's in UserPermission class, I thought it was clear. I wrote the UserPermission class.

@JaDogg yes - unless they are getting a view and/or insert..
I would rename then canView and canInsert - basing this off the fact the class had something to dow ith permissions
2

Yeah. That's my thoughts too.

@DanPantry nice advice , Thanks :D

I would expect getView to return a View.

Well, they aren't null, so

Once I put a bounty on a question, there's no way to withdraw it? Let's say I bounty a zombie, and answers are horrible, what would happen?

You can answer and accept your own answer but no bounty will be awarded, and standard self-accept rules apply.

Q: How can I withdraw my bounty?

OscarIs it possible to withdraw a bounty after starting a bounty? A week back I started a bounty for a question on Stack Overflow. I just found an answer for that question which was not on the answers list. Can I answer it and accept my own answer or withdraw the bounty?

3:02 PM
Hello everybody

Just what do you think you are doing, Kaan? .... ;-)
4

I am just checking the chat for the first time

Stop giving me so many things to star! I'm going to run out again.

@DanPantry Considering the comment you wrote on Mat's question (the UoW), do you think your workload would have been bigger to : a) switch your code from EF to SQL or b) code an UoW that supports switching from one to the other without too many problems? (No irony or anything, just trying to start a conversation!)

@Kaan I am pleased you are, by the way, I have seen your avatar, and.... it is significant to me.
3

3:05 PM
@TopinFrassi I switched from EF to SQL while being tightly bound to EF - new Context() everywhere.
I figure my workload would have been lighter if I wasn't a prat a year ago when I wrote the code.

You don't necessarily need to write a light-weight UoW solution, you need to simply create non-generic repository interfaces

I built HAL9000..... once.

Then all that's left is to create implementations for each ORM - so, new MyRepository(context) or new MyRepository(dbConnection)
Unfortunately, I did not do this and paid the price. it took me a good day of refactoring and head-bashing to get it working again.

I am guessing u r at least old as I am to understand it :)
nice !

Though having a generic repository can have its upsides too, there's less code to write, but you're bound to do sssooo many generics that if you ever have to switch, you might start as well start all over. Why did you have to switch to SQL? Did you have problems with EF?

@TopinFrassi I found better performance in SQL than I was goign to achieve in EF. In the app, EF performance was bottle-necking.
Plus, EF doesn't make it very clean to use stored procedures

3:18 PM
@rolfl what makes it an odd interpretation of the future?

Seen it?

of course

Yeah query performances using EF can be pretty terrible.. And you need to have a DatabaseFirst schema to make the better use of SP, so it's a pain

Generic repositories are fine until you want to start adding more 'defined' functionality to your repositories. Then you either end up with TRepository : ITRepository, IRepository<T> (which looks messy) - or you end up with giving everyone the 'defined' methods who implements IRepository<T>
When it got to that point it just made more sense to create the six interfaces I needed rather than bugger about with IoC and all the head-achy mess I was creating

The monolith, the social scenes on the space stations (not the actual voyage ship), the artsy concept of the evolution of man, the final destinations... all very bizarre.

3:21 PM
I've never faced a scenario where using the generic add/remove etc wasn't enough
But yeah, once you realize your code has no reason to be generic, un-generify it!

i would call that a layer of "fantasy" on top of the actual interpretation of the future, which is a hard scifi picture of slow moving, dangerous, long voyages to places as "close" as jupiter

@TopinFrassi stored procedures and working on complex data sets
@TopinFrassi we had your standard entities that just held relationship info but some of those entities had computations run on their children that needed to be encapsulated somehow.

@bazola I would agree with you, and I would say it is more then just 'worth watching', but, I also find things funny with it now that it's.... 40 years old?
45 years old.

its hard to watch because of how long it is, and how slow the pace is
but lots of its ideas have been expanded on repeatedly, such as dangerous and deadly AIs

Where I work, we ended up building an abstract querying layer over our generic repository to deal with complex queries (probably a month of work, but well.. It was sort of worth it). But for store procs, we had a repository on the side that was used to run sp's (that was a terrible idea)

3:25 PM
@bazola - you seem to be misinterpreting my statements a fair amount... I was asked: "Never seen Space Odyssey... is it serious or humorous?"

@TopinFrassi Repository specific for StoredProcedures seems to be very.. encapsulation-violating :(
But, hey, if it works, it works,r ight?

I answered, that it was serious at the time, but now I find parts humourous.

Some of our data sets were well into the millions of records, so when it gets to that point it makes sense to use SQL :p

not trying to put you on the spot or anything. the comment that it was an odd interpretation of the future just piqued my curiousity

@DanPantry That's why I'm saying it was terrible. But, it worked

3:26 PM
Perhaps the funny parts for me were the fakiness of the ape scenes, etc.... but, it's like watching the initial episodes of Star Trek... damn, it's funny.

@rolfl have a look at the gifs of scenes of stabilized starship shaking in star trek - they're hilarious

I understand that, SQL is ultimately more performant than EF

Just seen all the original movies of star trek. And I am planning to watch also initial series of star trek. Is it worth to start to watch them?

$rootElement.append('<div app-edit-article-modal></div>');
Anyone using AngularJS have any idea why the appEditArticleModal directive is not being linked after I add this to the rootElement?
this line is called within another directive's compile function

@Kaan That's the sort of question that leads to endless discussions.... ;-)

But, the wrath of khan seems appropriate ;-0

I was waiting a reaction rather than an answer and I got it :)

@Kaan Like most TV series the original series episodes have a wide range of quality. Some are classics, some not so much.

It is good enough for me, thanks @do

It's only 3 seasons, 80 total episodes though, which isn't that much by modern standards.

@Donald.Mclean
@rolfl Farscape seems very interesting. A better "stargate universe" ?

I would not know... beyond my ken.

farscape is interesting because its a lone human stranded on the other side of the galaxy, so just about everything he encounters is completely alien

3:45 PM
@Kaan YES it is worth it. watch them all!!!

I am glad that I checked the chat for the first time. I got already a scifi series recommendation. And @rolfl, u've mentioned a scifi channel/room here. I'll check it definitely as well.

now both :)
earlier I meant the TV show

gnat is a downvoting fool

@SimonAndréForsberg Does not ring a bell.

it's actually @Vogel612 's query I think
1 person = 100k in destroyed rep

@Donald.McLean it treats all game objects as entities, an entity consists of any number of components. Then there's systems that does work on the components of an entity, and can add or remove components from the entity as well. It's commonly used in game programming (although more in real-time games than turn-based games, I have started to use it even for turn-based though).
This question on gamedev explains it quite well:

Q: Role of systems in entity systems architecture

bio595I've been reading a lot about entity components and systems and have thought that the idea of an entity just being an ID is quite interesting. However I don't know how this completely works with the components aspect or the systems aspect. A component is just a data object managed by some relev...

@janos the TV show is the best :)

3 users have an estimated total rep destruction of about 150k. you might want to keep an eye on one of them...

^^^ You like playing with fire?

@Phrancis is that the top 20?
@rolfl right?

That query is only top 20 creators, not destroyers.

and Gnat is #4 at creation...

Here it is as the top 20 destroyers: data.stackexchange.com/programmers/query/227160/…

6:36 PM
@Jamal is the top destroyer on CR, should we keep an eye on him too?
With me at second place.
And oh, look at that, @Malachi at third.
I believe gnat has a reason for each and every one of those downvotes.

monking!
@TopinFrassi woah you put a 100pts bounty on that question?!!

It does seem a bit disproportionate compared to some of the other sites... DBA - SO
@Mat'sMug MONKING!

Maybe 80% of the questions are not worth upvoting. And I see a lot of questions here with no votes but with answer. So... I guess it's not a perfect world !

But I don't know that it's that great of an idea to meddle in how they manage their sites

@Mat'sMug Yeah, I'm really interested in seeing how this little repository could be perfect, if it isn't already.
+ I wanted a reason to set a bounty on something for the badge.. :p

@RubberDuck remember that Excel app I built with MVP/Uow+Repository patterns in VBA? Well I just finished migrating it to SQL Server - I hereby confirm that my VBA UnitOfWork works with transactions! :)

@TopinFrassi ah, fair enough :)

Monkternoon, by the way!

@Phrancis We should not, we should focus on our site!

(isn't the badge only awarded if the bounty gets manually awarded though?)

6:44 PM
I...don't...know.. ahah

@Mat'sMug two separate badges (and monking)

ah, don't remember, got those a year ago or so :)
@Phrancis I wasn't fair with the MySQL server... I mean, yeah, the SQL Server stuff is faster, but so is the server the instance it's running on, so I don't have comparable environments... which is a good thing - I'd rather not have a shitty database environment for my SQL Server instance!

Makes sense

still, MySQL ETL ran in 50 minutes; according to logs the SQL Server ETL ran in 30-some minutes, including moving the whole data source to the Staging database, and creating all needed indexes... MySQL takes about 25 minutes just to create one of the indexes I'm using!

@Malachi The query does not account for free question downvotes though... so it shouldn't actually be 3, but ...whatever

6:52 PM
Actually I think I got the bounty badges during winterbash - and got a hat for it ;)
