(and for you....)

yeah, now I can vote. And reached +210 yesterday, perfect.
Just never seen that error message before. "vote again just now", lol.

hehe true...

12:20 AM
@SimonAndréForsberg well that was timely!
hi!

@lol.upvote Hi!

@rolfl so, today is the day CR sees a monkey with 10K rep?

Not unless we downvote him!

yeah, let's downvote him back to 3.9K! ...NOT!

That's the theory, though I have not done much recently that deserves votes....

12:22 AM
let's see what I couldn't vote on...

@rolfl Then it's time to do something!

@rolfl indeed, not much!

Yeah, I'm working on something.....

oops, missed one

I'm also working on something... refactoring RPSLS.

12:30 AM
I think I already have a working "normal" tic-tac-toe, just gotta write a couple tests and I'm posting for review :)

Nice.
And then it's just about making it Ultimate, huh?

yup
"just that"

Piece of cake :)
I have not thought much about how my game model will look like, but I have thought a bit about how my AI will work :)

I played the iPhone version earlier today, my AI has to be smarter than that!

I don't have an iPhone so I can't try that. I do have Android though, I know there are several implementations of the game but I'm not sure how good they are.

12:35 AM
darn. 5 votes left, and I hardly caught up with today's unvoted stuff... there's another dozen answers waiting in the RSS reader..

@lol.upvote Perhaps it's time to be more restrictive in how you vote?

yeah
I think I'll stop voting for users with >10K rep ;)

Would indeed make things so much easier :)

Why is codereview.stackexchange.com/a/40565/34757 an answer? It's refusing to do a code review.

@ChrisW I disagreed with the flag because to me the answer seems useful. It does point out an important thing / approach regarding performance.

@ChrisW it doesn't review the code per se, but does give useful advice to the OP in terms of optimisation, no?
But I agree it's more of a SO-ish answer

Note that I say that it is an answer, whether or not it is a review is a different story.
After all, the flag is "Not An Answer", not "Not A Review"
I do think your answer is better though, @ChrisW.

12:53 AM
So "Use a profiler!" is a valid answer to any question about performance?
It ought to be a comment, at best.

Not necessarily any question. I don't like putting general rules like that. Normally, there are always exceptions.

Normally, there are always exceptions. Exceptions are the new norm?

But for this specific question, I think it is a valid answer. I do however think that the question itself leaves some things to be desired, especially considering your comment to the question, @ChrisW.
@lol.upvote All swans were white until the black swan in Australia was discovered. I just haven't looked at all swans yet :)

@ChrisW The answer also does mention one possible improvement: "splitting your hard drive into chunks and parallelizing the effort".
Over on StackOverflow, my experience is that even a single attempt at answering the question is an answer. I've flagged for NAA several times which has been declined. Some of them I brought to Meta and then they got handled properly. If you want to discuss this particular flag, my suggestions is: Bring it up on our meta :)

IMO it should be a comment, or a vote to close the question. It's explicitly refusing to do a code review: therefore it's not an on-topic answer for this site.

I agree with bringing it up on meta. @ChrisW I think you can make me change my mind on this.

I agree with @lol.upvote, which might not be so strange since he's actually the one agreeing with me :)

@rolfl The overt reason why is that the professor criticized the pseudocode syntax, so the OP would like advice / a second opinion about that. The more important part is the python question. I would like to leave-in the pseudocode for the OP's sake, because it can't be asked elsewhere/separately.
indentation is to show "if" nesting

@Chris, but:

# set dist from input "Enter miles traveled: "
# make sure dist is a number, and if not print error and restart
# if dist is 0.0, print error and restart
# set guse from input "Enter gas used in gallons: "
# make sure guse is a number, and if not print error and restart
# set mpg to dist divided by guse
# if guse is 0.0, print error and restart

that's why we don't review pseudocode. it would get closed as opinion-based!

tl;dr: "Bunch of dicks" equals a failed site. It's really as simple as that.

Why do I feel this is being taken out of context and blown out of proportion. None of what you are all suggesting is the intent I had when I wrote the comment.... and, in rereading it, I don't see where I put any personal attack on the person, or even his code. I did say his comments were long, and I am not apologetic for that. Particularly, I feel resentful for the insinuation that I am 'being a dick'. ..... I just don't feel like that's right (normally I know when I am in the wrong).

@Jamal Why is my "invalid flag" being disputed?

Further, nothing I said is anything like the comments that were removed before I got there....

@rolfl I know you didn't intend that. I was worried about what it might have sounded like to the OP.

I... forgot the </sarcasm> tag?

I assumed they might not understand the joke.

4:59 AM
@rolfl Not taking sides or anything, but I could see how @ChrisW thinks that comment was a bit harsh with the tone (especially to a new user, where we have to be more delicate). But I also agree with everything you had to say in your comment, and I didn't feel like it was a personal attack on the OP.

My initial comment was dickier than that though

@syb0rg: That automatically happens with all invalid flags.

@Jamal Is disputed a bad thing?

@syb0rg: Not at all.

no-op flag, sort of.

5:01 AM
Okay, good.

Yeah, I'm the happy go lucky monkey, but I genuinely don't try to be mean or nasty, and this discussion snapped me from happy-go-lucky to defensive and serious .... either I did something wrong, and have to learn from it, or I didn't..... right now it's frustrating because I am not sure I did anything 'off', and what to do to correct it (It takes a lot of control to teach an ex-South African monkey to be a well-behaved Canadian citizen).

You're in Ontario, you don't need to be well-behaved :p

Anyway, off to bed.... ;-) and I'll talk to you all on the far side of 10K ... ;-)

Alright, I think I'm going to call it a night.

ciao!

wouldn't that be "entering sleep mode.."?

FWIW, .... shutting down the question he stripped 6K words from will be far more of a piss-him-offer than what I said ... just sayin. Too long, too pseudocody, too short, sorry, too crap. on hold.

^^ 100% agree

@lol.upvote Hmm, that info message will have to be patched in the next update.

@rolfl Sorry for being so Canadian. ;-)

You've earned the "Revival" badge for OpenCV Mat processing time. See your profile.
Okay, now I'm really off.

5:25 AM
I didn't think you were being mean or are mean. You were care-free or careless; and the OP wasn't care-free. IMO the OP may have no idea what "brainfuck" is, so what could they make of your comment? Nothing good, was my fear. No way to correct it now. Your joke was directed to "us". I had already become "defensive" (of what I imaged are the OP's feelings) when I skimmed the OP's first post. Sorry for that temporary criticism. And I'm glad you have bananas.

Q: Simple MPG calculator in Python

user2921414I am a self taught coder taking a Programming Fundamentals class to work towards a degree. It's based on Python, which I'm not as familiar with as other languages. I added error handling like I would in javascript or php to be an overachiever. Professor gave online feedback (online course) not to...

@Jamal reopen?
add ?

Alright. We've annoyed him long enough.

this kid deserves a badge for his perseverance.
too bad it happened after @syb0rg shut down.
I'm shutting down as well - good night!
I think this hasn't received enough attention:

Q: Must answers include a code review?

ChrisWI'm surprised to ask this but, "Must answers include a Code Review?" I'm looking at this answer. The request in the OP says, Can you please look into my code and suggest me some performance improvement techniques? The answer says, No, it doesn't work like that. ... you should start by...
