I am little confused, which sorting algorithm this code is implementing....
The algorithm used is bubble sort, which is known to be one of the slowest sorting algorithms (but one of the easiest ones to implement).
A more efficient approach would be to rewrite the code and use a Merge sort algorithm.
This is a stored procedure that takes 5-30+ minutes to run depending on the parameter they select.
It also has a nasty side effect of clogging down our SQL Server.
