Q: Using generics with Inheritance in Java, can someone please explain how can I write generics methods

Amar DieuttI am trying to design our models and to me it seems like using generics is the optimal way to do it but I am not sure if this is the right approach or not. public class Tires{ int noOfThreads; int lifeTime; } public class SnowTires extends Tires { int lifeTime; } public class Dese...

Standard code review remark: "handler" is a horrible name to be avoided. It suggests "here I handle stuff and don't you worry about what the function does". What does it even mean? An ISR? Some internal code in the driver handing the timer? An external API function exposed to the caller? Some manner of callback? Name functions after what it does - what does it actually "handle"? — Lundin 57 secs ago

Q: JiraWatcher - A script that helps track the progress of testing versions

ykoavlilThere are several versions that can include subversions. The description field contains a git log of changes, for example: 8155a946 feat: TEST-123. any description 0b1b9c40 feat: TEST-33 - some other description Where TEST is the name of the project, and the numbers are the task number The scrip...

If you want to further improve the code in this answer, consider presenting your work (with its unit tests if you can) over at Code Review. You'll likely get some suggestions on making it more efficient, easier to read, and better tested. Before you do that, make sure to read A guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users first, as some things are done differently over there - e.g. question titles should simply say what the code does, as the question is always, "How can I improve this?". — Toby Speight 24 secs ago

@TobySpeight I was a little worried, I haven't seen you in almost a week.

@pacmaninbw That's normal - working away for a few days, with a trip to Yorkshire Dales for caving at the weekend. Back late last night, and catching up now. :)
:)
@TobySpeight Glad you took a little time off.

@TobySpeight The Yorkshire Dales are peak. I've been caving in the Peak District, which was quite nice. Hope the caving in the Dales were of an equal (good) standard.

Q: Framework for object creation and method invocation using strings (for use with scripting)

SweppsMy team is working on replacing our in-house scripting solution which will allow users to control the software and access data using their own external scripts. The plan is to use a class hierarchy that will mimic our internal class hierarchy, while only exposing methods and data that we can sele...

Q: Recursive descent JSON parser in Rust

Brendan WilsonI've written a simple recursive descent JSON parser in Rust. It just reads in a JSON file and prints the syntax tree to the terminal. I'm still learning Rust, and I'd appreciate any review/feedback. Particularly in regard to error handling and idiomatic language, but there could still be bugs lur...

Q: Bash script run by superuser, using active user environment

GauthierThis is a script to start a screen lock in Ubuntu, with user customizable background image(s). The script will eventually be run on sleep by systemd, so by root. This made it complicated to let the user customize the directory of the images to choose from. I ended up (with the help of a well-know...

Or you can post on Code Review instead, but first please read their How to Ask page since they work a bit differently. — wjandrea 50 secs ago
