Q: O(NlogN) sorting algorithms in C++

The Compile-Time ComedianThe following code is my lab which focused on implementing any 3 known sorting algorithms out there. Since the professor gave us a choice to pick any of them and compare their execution time I chose Quick Sort, Selection Sort, and Heap Sort. I had the option to choose bogo or bubble sort but I th...

No worries. SO is not a "code review" service but if you paste your code here and reply with a comment (with the same link) we can figure out what the issue was. Sounds good? — The Compile-Time Comedian 27 secs ago

Q: Plotting in Pyhton

The Compile-Time ComedianThis is a Part2 to this question where the task was to plot the data that I got from my time measurements. I've never worked with Jupyter Notebooks (ipynb) since most people I talked to were critiquing (in a bad way) them. A lot of repetition is noticeable, that's because I haven't gotten the han...

See How to Ask. This does not fit to SO. What about posting on Code Review? Don't forget to post any implementation details of the open_file_func() about the dependency on the main window. Anyway, here's my opinion. Your open_file_func() requires a parent of a modal dialog. If its implementation does not depends on the implementation of the main window(i.e., you can pass any QWindow), then it's logically separated(disconnected in your term). — relent95 40 secs ago

The closest I can think of is to use shell variables. If you define is_empty=z, then you can indeed use -$is_empty instead of -z. However (just my personal opinion) I would consider this approach utmost ugly and I don't think it would pass any code review. As long as you are using it just privately for your own code, and are happy with it, go ahead and do it! — user1934428 22 secs ago

Q: Golang: package setup to orchestrate initialization

cevingThe following code implements a package, which can be used to execute functions in the correct order based on dependencies. Example: package main import ( "my/setup" "fmt" ) func main() { // a depends on nothing a := setup.Add(func() { fmt.Println("a") }) // b depends on a ...

Q: We are graduating the updated button styling for vote arrows

Bella_BlueUpdate This experiment has been graduated. The new styling for vote arrows is now live across the Stack Exchange network. A: How do I change vote arrow buttons back?

user3840170This is a user style that I managed to come up with in about 15 minutes, based on a cached copy of a question with old styles. button.js-vote-down-btn, button.js-vote-up-btn { border: none !important; border-radius: 0 !important; background: none !important; padding: 0 !important;...

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Thank you!

I didn't consent to the change ... That is not how it works. Build your own Q/A site or get hired by SE as a designer if you want a say in what features look like. — rene 20 mins ago

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Someone has a rather big image of themselves.

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Entitled much..

@skiwi LOL.

In Dutch I'd be more direct even :P

maybe I should borrow some sidewalk chalk from my kids

LOL
Hopefully they are just using the side walk and not the walls of your place.
I don't know about pink chalk.

My boss had to get his Tesla serviced because his kids played with crayons inside it (:

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ -145 and still going down.
@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Don't those things have parking assist?

4:09 PM
@Mast Someone that thinks their car is that great will not use parking assist.
At least not until they have dented their car.

@pacmaninbw Some people run so many userscripts the site looks nothing close like the original on their screen :-)

Ahh. I just go with what is there, since I hate messing with CSS and JavaScript.

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ One thing I've noticed as I got older is that there's more important things to worry about :P
Or I just don't have the energy anymore to care about trivial stuff

@skiwi There are books written about that.

@pacmaninbw Meanwhile my phone still needs to be exactly perpendicular to my nightstand when I charge it at night :P

4:18 PM
@pacmaninbw I just borrow the scripts from someone else :-)
@skiwi I'll tell you a little secret: it's not so much about the button itself. It's about how it's presented, how it's worse compared to the old situation, how resources are spend on this nonsense instead of fixing bugs, how this all fits a pattern of behaviour from some of the higher-ups at SE, etc.

Q: Stack Exchange is failing its community

Journeyman GeekI guess this is very much an intervention. There's a few policies in the pipeline - here's a leak of one, and there's another one that's not been officially announced that a good many moderators are opposed to. I'll update when (or if) it goes through, but it's not great. Tied in with the new 'pu...

I don't like bringing the bad news to this room, usually I'm very much of a mind to have CR in a little corner of the network that isn't getting bothered by the network-wide stuff.
But we've seen this happen before and there's another storm coming.
We can't keep this one away from CR.

@Mast I can't really express my feelings about this on CR. The language would be too coarse.

I think we can all think of a few choice words that are best left untyped.
Constructive suggestions for how to deal with this on our corner of the network are appreciated. Feedback for SE itself is not something we can reliably do something with at the moment.

4:35 PM
@Mast Hmm fair enough..
I know AI will impact my job but still I can't be too bothered by it, just gonna ride the wave
I do use ChatGPT myself for solving some hard to solve problems from time to time

Considering how hard it is for customers to specify what they want, AI won't be able to take my job for a long, long time.

@pacmaninbw AI is dangerous, cars are dangerous, planes are dangerous, radiation is dangerous.
2
Robots are dangerous.
Many technology is dangerous.
When abused, it can be very dangerous.
Hiroshima, Chernobyl, Kyshtym...
Yet roentgen scanners and medical isotopes are still in use.
AI is going to take jobs. AI is going to take lives. That's what happens at the onset of a new technology.

@Mast Chernobyl is still dangerous after 37 years.

After your issue has been fixed, you should consult a web designer with responsive web design experience and/or bring your code to Code Review for review and/or read into responsive web design yourself. You are overusing <br> out of its scope (linebreak) which is not creating a spacings between elements. — tacoshy 14 secs ago

@pacmaninbw Yes, so you'd think the Russians wouldn't shoot as close to Zaporizhzhia as they do.
There will always be people willing to take the risk, regardless of how deadly the potential outcome.
Doesn't mean we can prevent all of it.
Lots of countries have nuclear weapons and research for peaceful use that can be abused into aggressive use is still done.
The military complex is worth a lot of money.
The world is not peaceful.
Someone is going to weaponize AI, sure. If they haven't already done it.
But hopefully we can get some good out of it too.
Heck, maybe in 20 years the site will be obsolete.
It's possible that day will come.
But that day is not today.

Q: Priority Queue (With raise priority operation) using Vector

Aria HarperHere I have implemented a priority queue, with the addition of the raise_priority (also known as reduce key) operation. The reason I have effectively reimplemented std::priority_queue is because the STL implementation does not have a raise_priority operation, nor can it be implemented (No access ...

Q: Boolean Value Object

Tim MortonPurpose: I want to accept the value of a checkbox or database field and make a Value Object out of it. The input could be any of y, Y, n, N, Yes, No, yes, no, 1, 0, true, false, or NULL. Q: Pythonic way for validating and categorizing user input

Jan van WijkIn multiple parts of my program, user input needs to be validated and categorized. That's a reasonable question IMO, I don't see any reason to downvote it. The fact that code like this wouldn't ever pass my code review doesn't mean the question about it is bad. — Yksisarvinen just now
@Yksisarvinen Agreed. Just because the question is scary from a code review perspective doesn't mean it's bad. C++ has a lot of interesting rabbit holes. — tadman 1 min ago

Q: What is the network policy regarding AI Generated content?

PhilippeEarlier this week, Stack Exchange released guidance to moderators on how to moderate AI Generated content. What does this guidance include?

Yeah, I'm aware of that. This question is not really suitable for any website under SE. Code review will close it since it's not working. And btw you were right. I changed what you mentioned to HashTable = std::move(new_table.HashTable); and it seems to work fine with a side of a big memory leak. Thanks — The Compile-Time Comedian 14 secs ago
