Jose CortezI need to extract unique Product Group names along with its corresponding services from a table in a worksheet. The table is generated by a bot and is not filtered, I have sorted it by alphabetical order. The data is not fixed and can contain anywhere from 5 - 100 rows of data, depending on the m...

Q: Javascript split array into n subarrays, size of chunks don't matter

NeloNOTE: This post was moved from stackoverflow as codereview.stackexchange is a better place to discuss the performance of this code problem/solution. I want to split an array into n subarrays. I don't care how many elements end up in each array but the elements must be spread through all the avail...

Questions about improving code are better suited to codereview.stackexchange.com With that said however please read their help pages regarding how to ask and what to ask. Suggest you focus on part of your code that you are interested in optimizing/improving and ask more targeted question about that part of the code first — charlietfl 32 secs ago

Q: How to handle case where integer x is greater than INTEGER.MAX_VALUE or x is smaller than INTEGER.MIN_VALUE?

user227530Could anyone please explain me the above when used for programming the boolean ispowerof10(int x)? How to handle such cases when the value exceeds the MAX_VALUE or is less MIN_VALUE. static boolean isPowerOfTen(int n) { return (n > 0) && ((n & (n - 1)) == 0); }

@CaptainObvious *sigh* Time to fix a title and a question.
@CaptainObvious OK, that's a strange one. The first one instead had a power-of-two implementation (n > 0 && (n & (n - 1)) == 0). Maybe we have an autorship problem there.
Allright, now it's borderline on-topic and only somewhat on on-topic's side of the fence.

@RobertSsupportsMonicaCellio Can't we just assume akimata knows what they are doing? Without context we cannot judge if this "makes sense" or not, and more context is not necessary to answer the question as stated. There might well be architectural issues (but we do not know) with the code,but akimata can still just post it on Code Review, to be scrutinized. In the end, even sub-optimal code can solve a problem. — Jan Christoph Terasa 22 secs ago

@CaptainObvious Ugh... Highely likely to be extracted from this question, as the overall indentation and content matches the original question 1:1.

Q: A Pool-based Memory Management

RaildexI wrote a memory management class that is supposed to be used in a game. I decided to use "Blocks" as an in-code representation. It is written in MSVC++ and is currently not meant for portability. I am actually not really experienced in C++ - I just wanted to "try it out". The pool is not meant t...

@Zeta Going for AoC looks like a bit of a witch hunt and you've not provided context for others. "Given that the code was previously a power-of-two check instead of a power of ten" Where? "That being said, @OP: Your original non-x code was a verbatim copy of the StackOverflow version." Where? (Is this the Code Review question you and Sai Sreenivas linked to?)

Q: Are sanity checks allowed?

Lady AleenaThere are times when I have written code that looks insane when I step back from it. It is during those times where I might need a sanity check. So, is asking for a sanity check allowed?

@CaptainObvious A good feeling is telling the OP the question is off-topic on CR but might be better on Software Engineering and the move the question to Software Engineering and say thanks.

@Vogel612 Is it off-topic?

This is the main room for codereview.stackexchange

I know it's a coding question rather than code review, but given that this is the most active room related to coding I thought it might be okay. I presume it's not?

it's not really the room for help with debugging tools

@Vogel612 Yes I saw that. I just couldn't find any active rooms for SO and it seemed related enough
I apologize if that was a bad judgement call

6:16 PM
Stack Overflow Chat has it's own chatserver
they have a python room over there

@Vogel612 Alright, thanks. I did look. Any chance you know the name?

Hmmm... Why does searching for Python in the rooms not bring that up?
Thanks!

because that room is on the stack overflow server
there's three different chat servers.
One for Stack Overflow, one for Meta.Stackexchange and one for the rest of the StackExchange network

@Vogel612 Hmmm...? Isn't there just the SE server?
@Vogel612 Oh...
Sorry about that...
chat.stackexchange.com is about the most misleading name I've ever heard in my life, then...

6:19 PM
why, though?
chat.stackoverflow.com is the obvious extension for that...

@Vogel612 Thanks again!
@Vogel612 I never knew SO didn't count as part of the SE network ⍤

historic reasons, mostly

I knew SO was the first one but I thought SE was a huge umbrella built over all of them
@Vogel612 Makes sense, thanks!

in a way that's true, but the actual history is a bit more complicated...

@Vogel612 I see, well very interesting. Thanks again, again!

Yeah, it's clearly not very well thought out because I seem to not even be able to move the messages to an SO room... I seem to only be able to search amongst the other rooms in the network...

Yeah you're going to have to get really crafty to try and get the withevents to handle. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking the sub should check for input somehow. Of course there are some fun weird little work arounds to try and get Excel to behave multi-threaded, if you want to deep dive into this, codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/185212/… <- this thread is interesting. But you could also spawn workers using VBS scripts / Wscripts that run on the OS, and report back a value to excel after they're done running. It all going to b a waround — Peyter 13 secs ago
