What's the criteria? If I'm asking for new ideas should I send it to codereview? I posted the code to show what I already thought and implemented, to avoid receiving the same ideas I have. — castarco 43 secs ago
@blueygh2 no. This question is specifically asking for an improvement of the heuristic approach. Asking for that is off-topic for codereview, since the recognition heuristics are considered a feature. Changing a feature is not what codereview is about. For more information, see "A guide to Code Review for Stack Overflow users"Vogel612 56 secs ago
@NinaScholz: I think it's right on the borderline. The semantics of a reduce operation, in my view, suggest an accumulator that can change on each iteration, such as var sum = [1,2,3].reduce(function(acc, entry) { return acc + entry; }, 0); Since that's not what we're doing if p never changes, to me that means I'm using the wrong tool for the job. But as I say, I think it's right on the edge. In a code review, for instance, I'd probably flag it for the coder the first time and then if they wanted to keep doing it, not flag it on subsequent reviews. — T.J. Crowder 27 secs ago

Q: PHP function to create a Hex dump - Followup

Ismael MiguelThis is a followup of the following question: PHP function to create a Hex dump @Corbin made a very interesting review, and I re-wrote most of the code. function hex_dump( $value ) { $to_hex = function( $number ){ $hex = strtoupper( dechex( $number ) ); //if we don't check ...

That one

3:05 PM
Already told you what to do, you didn't like it.
Another example of you expecting people to do the work for you.

@EBrown I told at least 3 or 4 times that recursion breaks functionality. You weren't the first one to suggest it.

It doesn't actually break functionality if you do it right, you clearly haven't the foggiest on how to do it right.

Wrong: I don't want to do it at all. I don't want resursion.

That's no reason for the way you act. Just because you don't want the advice doesn't mean you should VTD the post.

I explained why I downvoted.

3:10 PM
You can still do recursion and keep your precious functionality: simply define a $maxArrayLevels parameter that goes into the method, and decrement it each time you call the next level of the method.
Then, if the $maxArrayLevels` is 0, and you encounter an array, you can error.

In this case, it would be 0. I really don't want recursion

This completely alleviates the issue with recursion.
No it would not.

@EBrown Why have recursion then?

You would specify 1, then after the first call, it would send 1 - 1 = 0 to the next level.
@IsmaelMiguel Reusability/readability/maintainability. Concepts you seem to ignore in favour of "your way".
But that's OK, you continue to do your questions your way. I'll not stop you.

Do you think that I liked to downvote your answer?
I didn't. And don't.

3:14 PM
I'm done with this conversation, FYI.
I've made my arguments, do what you will (or won't) with them.

But you still think I downvoted simply because
I don't know about you, but I feel awful when I downvote an answer.
I avoid it like plague
I only downvoted your answer because after giving you time to change or do something with the answer, it was still exactly as before.

It's about unit testing a functioning python module, the unit tests all succeed and are viable tests of the functionality but were not (still are not) elegant. Why is Code...

@EthanBierlein that edit fixes the code --> codereview.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/41407
@IsmaelMiguel if he is gone, who is in charge then?

@Malachi The other 3

@IsmaelMiguel they are just socks

@Malachi If you say so

@Malachi who's a sock?

?
Translation, please?

@IsmaelMiguel been lurking all along ;)

@Mat'sMug Does that mean you are done lurking?

uh-huh

@Mat'sMug Translation: you read everything we said?

in the last 2 hours or so

Now that I'm thinking...
Isn't it a little....creppy?

there's always someone watching.

I know
Are you talking about here on StackExchange or outside (offline)?

...

If you don't like people reading your "stuff" then you should not post it to a fully archived, searchable, and permanent location on the public internet.

@rolfl If I didn't wanted people to read my stuff, I wouldn't write it at all.

So, what's creepy about people reading things you want them to read. You trolling?

@rolfl I'm talking about being "dead" in the background, reading like if he wasn't here
Not about reading
Besides, anyone can read the transcript

@IsmaelMiguel Here's a trick, open a room in "incognito" mode.... do it all the time.

@rolfl Why?

@IsmaelMiguel when you are talking about mods, isn't it good to have them watching the chat room at all times? whether they are participating in the chat or not?

4:15 PM
There's a bunch of reasons. Mostly related to when I was a moderator. Now I have fewer reasons, but they are still ther.e

@bazola I sure was talking about the moderators. And what I said is beneficial.

But the point remains that there's nothing creepy about it.

Alright, point taken
I just find it a bit creepy
Like if they were hidding in the shadows and snatch you suddendly and you don't know what to do

I suppose if you're on a train, talking loudly to a friend that the other people who can hear your conversation, but don't join in, are creepy too?

If such situation every happened, not exactly.
Depends on what the others are trying to do
If one is hidding to listen what we say, that's creepy
If they aren't hidding and are simply listening or ignoring, that isn't creepy
(Some awkward stuff may come out, and it would be really weird)

4:19 PM
the second monitor is feeling very philosophical today

@Rolfl wasn't really hiding, he was doing other stuff on the site, I saw traces all over the place

@bazola It's just my boring mood, that's all

boredom should be cured by writing some code! :)

@Malachi Did he made some good reputation for him?
@bazola Now when you have to debug

@IsmaelMiguel review queue and such

4:22 PM
@IsmaelMiguel isn't debugging the fun part? ;)

@Malachi That doesn't give reputation
@bazola Not when everything is fine, except some ghost flaw. And debugging PHP+MySQL is a huge PITA

but it is still contributing to the community, and is somewhat visible

I'm not under-valueing it
Question: is it possible to completely delete a chatroom here?

no
Well, let me rephrase that.... only Stack Exchange staff, probably only those with developer-level access to the source code and infrastructure, would be able to properly delete a chat room, and even then, it would still likely be in the backups somewhere.

And a regular user like me, would be able to delete a room created by me?
Alright

You're likely to get a better response asking this on Code ReviewPaul Roub 38 secs ago
Do note though, if you post on Codereview, you must include the code in the post body. — Ethan Bierlein 12 secs ago

@EthanBierlein Once, someone angrily said: "It's Code Review, not CodeReview!". And you wrote "Codereview".
Just pointing out the misspelling

I think it's fine either way

Me too
But since then, I use Code Review

@rolfl You are forgetting the power of Google archiving there :)

@EthanBierlein @IsmaelMiguel stackexchange.com/legal/trademark-guidance "Proper Use of the Stack Exchange Name", "Stack Overflow is a programmer Q&A site on the Stack Exchange Network. As a name, Stack Overflow, is always written "Stack Overflow" (two words, capital letters). ... Currently, all Stack Exchange Network sites follow this convention: Server Fault (serverfault.com), Super User (superuser.com), etc." Thus, "Code Review", not "CodeReview".

This is why simple, clever, concise and clean code is not necessarily good code. Code is about intent. If I run into this, I'll have to spend time trying to figure out 1) what this code is doing, and 2) why it is written like this. In the end, I'll be pissed off, I'll revert your changes and I'll make sure you get mandatory code reviews for the next year. — isanae 28 secs ago

I don't see what is so unclear about Math.min(cave, training, mobility, sleep).
