It's still difficult for me, but that's because I never had the need to fully comprehend it. I probably should learn it sometime to get more proficient at many other languages.
@Mast I don't know the internal workings, but if you're running a Python interpreter on a Virtual Machine, the interpreter is aware of the fact that the program is running in a virtual environment.
I'm working on some testing project.
But for some reason i think im doining something wrong with the architecture. I create a simple example to show what i mean.
Database class
Imports DAO
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class PatientDB
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=...
There are a couple of people of which I'm certain will be running, a couple of which I'm certain they'll not and a whole lot in the grey area in between. So, tomorrow.
In my task I have to pass some data from one model to another. And these models contain lists. I did it in the following way:
List<VisualProcess> vProcesses = new ArrayList<VisualProcess>();
for (Process process : processList) {
VisualProcess vProcess = new VisualProcess();
...
I used to get "upset" (though that is too strong a term) when I got downvoted without comment. If my answer isn't good enough then I'd like to know why. Not only does it improve the answer for the OP but it improves my knowledge too.
Where the down-vote has been explained I've found it useful & ...
I enjoy being able to down-vote posts I don't care for without worrying about retaliation. And I really enjoy being able to leave honest comments without worrying that they'll be justifiably interpreted as evidence that I've down-voted. I would not like to see the two systems linked. — Shog9 ♦Jun 28 '09 at 19:36
Or you could just tell us what brought up your frustration, which would be more fruitful than complaining about an honest system.
if you want a critique, then post your answer as a question, and get it the way you are supposed to get it.
@QPaysTaxes wrong
comments are not for that
I think you're misunderstanding me ;-)
Comments are not a place to discuss answers. Use chat. Comments are for temporary plces to request clarifications, or other items that are constructive.
- Criticisms which do not add anything constructive ("-1, see previous comments you scallywag!"); instead, down-vote (and provide or up-vote a better answer if appropriate);
don't comment if you can't be constructive... and there is no requirement to comment, ever
Getting this error when trying to use the function FindFirstFileEx and other windows file management functions in Borland C++. I already included windows.h, what else do I have to do?
I've seen people downvote because they didn't like my lack of back-up in my answer on a 'primarily opinion based' question. Totally valid, but the comments didn't help me writing a better answer.
In the end, I just deleted the answer and figured I never should've written it.
I'm trying to create a "perfect" generic solution structure for MVC (5.2.3.0) projects using MEF.
Currently my solution looks like this.
Core layer contains generic classes that could be used in any project
Data layer contains a ApplicationContext (: DbContext) and models
Repositories layer ...
I can't remember the number of times I've cleaned up Meta. There were still so many questions using tags improperly. I'm also still 49 edits from Copy Editor.
This is practically my first time using async in my code. I read about dos-and-donts but I wanted to get some feedback on what I've written.
I'm using a repository pattern and I'm inserting asynchronously into the database.
An explanation of the models involved: I have one DomainModel and three...
I am trying to implement lock by which I want to avoid reads from happening whenever I am doing a write.
My requirements are:
Reads block until all three maps have been set for the first time.
Now second time, If I am updating the maps, I can still return all the three old maps value(before th...
How lame, they're too undermanned to get to your site design, but they redesign P.SE without asking anyone what we wanted and doing nothing we'd asked for on meta, and now they're going to give you guys mods without a site design. Why doesn't SE just crowd source designs? It would be faster to getting a quality design than their current approach even if volunteers did half jobs and failed repeatedly, it would still be done faster than waiting on SE...
they wouldn't even have to organize it. The community could easily do it all through meta with voting and volunteers working off eachothers work until someone got all SE needed zipped up and voted on.
@rolfl probably the questions too. Comment review != code review. That's like the opinion garbage NPR would get "How do you comment your code? And what's your favorite lolcat?"
@rolfl that doesn't sound like what every developer I've worked with has said when I pointed out some part of the system that was clearly done for shit...
@EthanBierlein I don't disagree. I'm still frustrated that we've had numerous meta posts talking about how the community wants the design changed, and there's been a few things that have been universally agreed upon: no more scraggly unprofessional up/down vote buttons yet they replaced our up/down vote buttons with ones that look just as unprofessional as before... It's frustrating because the majority of the P.SE community are professionals, who don't take their work as scratch-paper junk.
At least they replaced the scratchy words on the top bar with plain text
@EthanBierlein I'm a loose cannon! I'm going to go watch something on Netflix. Hooray for Sundays. Ginger ale + lime + bitters for all.
If I have a one liner method that looks like this:
str.toLowerCase.replaceAll("[^\\w']", " ").split(" ").filter(word => word.trim.length >= 1).groupBy(word => word).mapValues(_.size)
What is the best way to avoid long lines of code and split it into multiple lines? Here are the options that I ...
Well, I am only aware of two other SO accounts. Neither person has any rep on any other SE site, and the both have less than me.... but I'm pretty sure they're also both over 15k.
