@CaptainObvious BURN IT WITH FIRE

Got in another answer. While not a zombie, I covered some missing stuff.
@CaptainObvious School must still be in session somewhere.
Hm. The OP even got the Informed badge.

Arrays, tuples, dictionaries... when it comes down to it, they're just dense data matrices, no? (at least generally)

Lists and tuples are essentially the same thing in Python. The only difference is that tuples are immutable.

2:16 AM
So tuples are like array records full of final data?

Yeah.
Let's say I have a = (1, 2, 3) and b = [1, 2, 3]. I can do b[0] = 10, but not a[0] = 10. In the case of a, I can only access it's data.

A friend of mine is telling me Dynamic SQL is part of the SQL standard... I'm hesitant to believe it... @rolfl @200_success opinions?
Pretty sure only TSQL supports it, AFAIK

Hey, @Phrancis, is this the SQL IDE you use? jetbrains.com/dbe

Personally, I use
IDEs are fun

But, but, that's for MAC OS X
And, its, MySQL.

Yes and meh

3:10 AM
Ooh, VS2015 has SQL tools, maybe.

@EthanBierlein No, I have used the default IDE provided by the DB provider; i.e., pgAdmin III for PostgreSQL, and Workbench for MySQL

Ah, okay.

I do have IntelliJ IDEA installed, which has tools for PostgreSQL, but I haven't used them yet
(just installed it yesterday)

Hmm. Testing out VS2015's SQL tools right now.

I do want to install SSMS Express, but I'll have to use my wife's PC, as it is not supported on OS X
(and I only have Windows XP install discs to make a partition)
I do like IntelliJ GUI a lot :)

3:16 AM
Does IntelliJ have TSQL support?

Probably not natively
It's a Java-focused IDE
TSQL is more of a C# thing

Hmm. Okay

I'm sure it's possible to make IntelliJ work with TSQL, but probably not very easily
@Jamal How to refactor the title to remove the crappy title

Well. I just signed up for JetBrain's early access program for 0xDBE.

3:20 AM
@EthanBierlein Let me know how that goes! I've been curious about a non-Windows way to interact with TSQL for a while

I'm not sure if it has TSQL support. But if it's not IntelliJ, then it could. Here's a screenshot from the site.
It has those sexy dark colors.
Welp. I just got an email from JetBrains with a link to a pre-release download build.
Let's see if it actually works.

Hmmm. VARCHAR(n) is indicative of either TSQL, or MySQL
Prety sure Postgres doesn't support that, but I've been wrong before

Which one should I use?

Never mind, I'm wrong again. It does, I was probably thinking of NVARCHAR(n)

I'm thinking SQL server, but I'm not sure if that's actually TSQL.

3:26 AM
SQL Server == TSQL

I might need to sign up for that... ... ...
Must have clicked some link by accident <.<

Well... It works... But I have no idea what to do, or how to get a project working.

@Phrancis Does it matter? When it comes to SQL, standards are merely a suggestion.
Even if it is "standardized", no two databases will use the same syntax anyway.

Oh wow. I'm an idiot. I forgot to download the TSQL driver files. xD
Arg. Now it won't let me change font size.

3:36 AM
Technically, T-SQL also includes Sybase.

If I squint my eyes that looks like syb0rg

Arg, if this damn thing doesn't let me change font size I'm gonna have to give up on it. After restarting a couple of times.
Yay! I fixed it! Now it works.

@200_success Technically, Sybase includes SQLServer ;-)

Is the SQL standard then just a technicality...?

Sybase was licensed by MSoft at about version 4.5 or so, IIRC, to make a database for windows. The agreement created some sense of non-compete...
in essence, SQLServer is re-branded Sybase.
That was a long time ago, though, the early 90's.

3:49 AM
Hmm. I keep getting an error when I try to connect to Test-Database@localhost.

things diverged a bt from then, but tsql existed back then

I shouldn't be playing with this shit. I don't even know where to start :(
I think I need ...moar jQuery

@Mat'sMug "use strict";

uh-huh
I'm so sticking a tag on that one

4:11 AM
@Mat'sMug Playing with JS, definitely heed Master Monkey's advice and "use strict";
Everything else is.. well.. dynamic...

ok... where do I put that?

At the top
(preferably top of functions)
function Foo (Bar) {
    "use strict";
    // ...
}

in quotes??

Yes
(don't ask)

... not asking ...
(wtf, js?)

Strict mode at least enables you to keep track of which variables are effective in which scope. Otherwise, it's free-for-all

oh nice

May 19 at 21:44, by Phrancis
var i = "hello";
for (var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
    console.log(i); // 0,1,2,3,4
}
console.log(i); // 5

________________________________________

"use strict";
let i = "hello";
for (let i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
    console.log(i); // 0,1,2,3,4
}
console.log(i); // "hello"
let is actually not that well supported yet, but var works just about the same in strict mode

I consider this my hello world
(pops up the content of the textbox when you hit enter)
I need to take that <div> out of the html and somehow generate it though
I'm pretty sure document.write isn't the right way to do this

4:19 AM
Put it in a literal string in the JS code maybe?

...
or is it?

I'd be tempted to use a different method, but HTML and JS is pretty dirty, overall

yeah, well, problem 1, the div has to be "inserted" into a specific spot.

<script type="text/javascript">

function newContent()
{
alert("load new content");
document.open();
document.write("<h1>Out with the old - in with the new!</h1>");
document.close();
}

</script>

@Phrancis now I see why jQuery is such a meme
$('.container-element').add('<div>Insert Div Content</div>');

I don't know a thing about jQuery, maybe it's good
I'm more of a KISS guy when it comes to web dev... HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, a little JS if needed but as little as possible...
OS X installers are beautiful. And JetBrains' are also clever.

I gave up on that. Stupid connection issues.

Can't you just create a local DB server?

I couldn't figure that out. xD
Actually, it said that it created Test-DB@localhost, but I still got connection issues when I tried to run a query.

hey @EthanBierlein
@Jamal I liked your former avatar image more.
It looked so serious.

@EthanBierlein Looks like there are hoops to jump through, as in it can possibly hook into a local data source, but cannot create its own

Bah. Oh well.

Depending whether you're on Windows, OS X, or Linux, it can probably be done without too much difficulty
Probably just a matter of configuring the source DB

What OS are you running?

4:54 AM
Windows 8.1

OK. You have a number of options, probably best to get MS SQL Server Express (if you want to use the MS DBMS)
I use PostgreSQL since I'm on OS X and can't use Microsoft junk products
Either way, you probably need to install a DB server and IDE independently of 0xDBE

Okay. Thanks!

why isn't the css applied??

@Mat'sMug Be more specific?

trying to set the css class, so that the popup looks like ..well, the popup I had with static html

Is your problem primarily that it seems to wrap around an invisible left column?

problem is primarily that I'm telling it "you have a red background" and it's not listening to me

CSS for ya. Let me look

5:11 AM
.message.message-error {
  z-index: 1;
  display: none;
  color: #fff;
  background-color: #c04848;
  text-align: left;
}
trying variations of this:
  popup.style.class = "message message-error message-dismissable";
popup.cssClass
produces the same output

I think one of your "later" CSS classes might be overriding that

no, the css is fine

I mean, in the way it's called from your HTML source

how do I assign element.style and set a css style... correctly then?

I'd recommend start with process of elimination, i.e., remove one CSS class from HTML, render, see what changes, undo
@Mat'sMug With difficulty

0 0
1 1
2 2

    2        2</pre>

@Mast Would _a_private_method() be a good name for a private method in PHP?
(I meant the structure, not that specific name)

Also, I'd say unrelatedly that X is a terrible name for a class (not at all descriptive!) and I'd define each card inside the array to avoid more single character variables. When this code works (and not before) you might benefit from codereview.stackexchange.com — Pureferret 39 secs ago

@IsmaelMiguel Looking it up, I'm not a PHP expert.
Prefix single underscores in PHP are usually used for globals afaik, so probably not.

10:25 AM
But usually, those are also $_IN_CAPS

According to the standard, a prefix _ is used for private, not for public/protected.
Don't use _ in between the names though.
_aPrivateMethod() is much better

That looks like Java... And Javascript...

It's called camel case.
And yea, it's often used in Java, Javascript, PASCAL and a lot of other languages.

I hate names like that, it looks awful.

@IsmaelMiguel Why are you using __ in this question?

10:31 AM
But, I guess that is the right way.

Update: we are seeing additional routing issues due to a BGP route leak coming out of Asia - certain ISPs are affected reaching our sites.

Because of the magic methods. I haven't updated the question, but the code was updated and I've removed the __ to simply _.

Never use double underscores unless you have explicit reasons to do so. Usually you don't.
Back in 40m.

The only method that I could argue about the use of __ is the __run_magic_method()

@Nobody Looks like he's using some interpreter, didn't know JS had one.
@rolfl Thank you, much better.

So, is the 12/14 thing intentional?

@Nobody I sure hope it doesn't exist.

Q: Xamarin Forms MVVM Light Toolkit usage

PhoenixSo I am playing around with Xamarin, because there is a good chance that I might have to start a project using it in a few months. What I am mostly looking at is Xamarin Forms as I am familiar with WPF and MVVM, so I am looking to apply the same principles if possible. I usually use Caliburn.Mi...
