New question.

Hello.

Hola.

Q: Project Euler Retreat

Hosch250Now I am doing Project Euler number 1: If we list all the natural numbers below 10 that are multiples of 3 or 5, we get 3, 5, 6 and 9. The sum of these multiples is 23. Find the sum of all the multiples of 3 or 5 below 1000. This is my code, which runs in 0 milliseconds: static void...

How goes it, @MannyMeng?

12:09 AM
How goes what?
Also, I'm going to try to answer your question.

Nice.
It - life in general.

anybody with extensive async/await knowledge ?

I don't have extensive knowledge, but I've used it.

@Mehrad ^^ Pretty close huh?

@Phrancis Close? I can't even tell which was in mine ? :P
Looks good

12:22 AM
Top one is your screenshot :)

I knew - look at the yellow line.

I got a white one too I need to tweak

I was joking though. meant to mean as a compliment :D

Haha thank you
Need to figure out how to format the linenums too, shouldn't be too hard

Q: Python decorator for optional arguments decorator

Karolis ŠarapnickisI want my Python decorators to have optional arguments and not be called when not necessary. The accepted answer in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3888158/python-making-decorators-with-optional-arguments doesn't accept named arguments, and I don't want to add boilerplate code inside decorato...

@Hosch250 I answered your question.

12:52 AM
@Phrancis I would like to have a pretty editor like that in CR

That's the idea ;)
Got the linenums figured out, was something stupid (as usual in my case)
How's that look?

Just a FYI: Code Review users now have more control over the Low Quality review Queue
12

@Phrancis is Persian there is a saying "معما چو حل گشت آسان شود" meaning, "The riddle, sounds stupidly easy, just the moment after you solved it".
3

@Mehrad That is so beautifully worded!

s/is Persian/in Persian :)

1:00 AM
translate: معما چو حل گشت آسان شود
(from Persian) Solve the puzzle easy patrol Chu
Yeah, sure.

hahah... It's a very heavy literature to be translated using a bot @rolfl. Since it's really old and Poem like as well. but pretty close :D

google struggles too: translate.google.ca/#auto/en/…
> Wooden puzzle was solved easy

lol

Prettify's Lisp formatter must be broken, doesn't work. Oh well.

hahah.. The problem is with the word sounding "Cho". Cho means upon happening which also sounds like Chob which means wood. not sure where that B comes to action for Google though :D
@rolfl I have made little changes to be a little bit more modern Persian then google can handle it.

1:04 AM
Its VB formatter is very broken. It interprets keywords as type names, and comments as strings... Nice.

And the mod tool now says:
translate: معما چون حل گشت آسان شود
(from Persian) The riddle is solved because the easy tour

@Mat'sMug @Malachi ^^ See and read up my last chat post before this

Pull the plug for that mod tool... @rolfl. let's introduce Mehrad Tool instead :D
@Phrancis wow. However I like the Open close brackets which almost look like a circle

That's the Monaco font for OS X. You can probably get it for Windows as well, I'd wager.
On a Windows machine it would display as Consolas instead

@rolfl what is Mod Tool by the way? I didn't find any translator like thing with that name when I googled it!

1:14 AM
It has a chequered history:
@Stijn sigh; this is why we can't have nice things — Marc Gravell ♦ Aug 26 '14 at 12:12

@MannyMeng Saw it.
Installing French language pack, not that I know it..
Just experimenting.
I should install Spanish after this and document the process for my blog.
So, like this?
translate: Hola.

1:29 AM
Ok.

Oh, it the translator was disabled.

It was disabled for the masses, but:
translate es: the moderators got to keep it.
(from English) los moderadores tienen que mantenerlo.

Cool.
So, which engine does this use?
Google?

But, consider this:
translate: los moderadores tienen que mantenerlo.
(from Spanish) the moderators have to keep it.
have to, get to, not bad.

Allow or force?

1:32 AM
I'm not sure which engine it uses.

Hmm.

bing?

Maybe.
I'll check.
Bing.
This is Google: Moderators have to maintain it.

@Mehrad ^^ Thoughts?

You not only keep it, but you have to maintain it too!

1:33 AM

I wonder how they chose?

No idea.

I like Bing, but most people prefer Google.
Maybe they had them submit bids.

Might need to darken the blue and teal a bit

Bing payed the most.

1:34 AM
@Phrancis Font must be courier....

@rolfl VS uses Courier, most browsers have nicer looking options. Though it's possible to just use Courier too. It's just... kind of ugly.

VS can be customized.

.prettyprint {
  background: white;
  font-family: Monaco, Consolas, "Courier New", monospace;
  font-size: 12px;
  line-height: 1.3;
  border: 1px solid #000000;
  padding: 10px;
}
This is the setting the screenshot above uses

I'm using Consolas.

@Phrancis - that font on the screenshot is 'comicy'.

1:39 AM
It's Monaco, usually only found on OS X. Default "nice looking" monospace font

it may be monospaced, but, it's not a programmer-like font.

That's how CR/SO posts are displayed on my OS X machine even now

odd. Ok then.
My terminal fonts ^^^
My 'code' font:
Meh, perhaps I am being pedantic and traditional.
Just so long as I can change it ;-)

I'll tinker with it, but yes maybe you are ;)
I should probably check for Consolas first, then Monaco. Or I could throw in Lucida Console instead

Consolas FTW!
@Phrancis Nope. VS uses Consolas
The VBE used Courier last century!

1:44 AM
Actually, I changed to check for Consolas first, and my machine switched to Consolas. Guess it's all well and good then

Apparently my font is Consolas 10.

Better? ^^

WTH

I think it's good... and I approved.

1:48 AM
It seemed odd due to the blockquote, assuming it was quoted verbatim from somewhere.

A: Include Day-Of-Week in time-related hover-text

BobHere's a userscript implementation: Timestamps with a day Requires Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey. Install the script from here. If you prefer local time, simply remove the date.utc() line and change the format string as desired (remove the [Z]).

Q: Project summing

GenisA small project I recently started. #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { unsigned short int num = 0; while(num <= 0 || num >= 256) { printf("Enter number of values to sum: "); scanf("%d", &num); } unsigned long long int arr[num]; unsigned long long int t...

@Phrancis looks good however, I am not a big fan of really bright colors like that Cyan you used for the main code. (hope my gf don't see this cus her name is Cyan. I love your name honey if you see this :P )
@rolfl so I can go ahead and write translate here
translate: تست

You can do the translate thing as much as you want, but it will not respond.
Only moderators can get a response.... like:

:(

1:59 AM
translate: تست
(from Persian) Test

can you test my test
oh you did
I like it

I wonder why they removed it?

People discovered it could be abused.

Yeah, it was being abused, but the novelty would have worn off and people would have left it alone.

I'd say it's because then moderators would know if somebody offended some other in a different language and then flag him

2:00 AM
@Phrancis cosmic sans =;)-

Anyway, just fix it.
Don't kill it.
Also, done within 5 minutes?

Ohhh. Coffee went into private beta.

@rolfl I have a feeling this is the same user: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/78831/project-summing
Huge answer in 5 minutes.
Answer suggests it the writer knows a lot about the program already - to the point of mind reading.

I see that.... looking

Thanks for the quick and detailed answerr!!! — Genis 1 min ago
It would have taken at least 30 minutes to write all that

2:10 AM
probably a meat puppet, at least, that's what I am going to go with for the moment.

Or some people think and type very very fast
I don't understand puppetry

Especially the way we vote around here.
I almost voted on that, but I saw the answer and decided to hold off a bit.
I don't want to waste my vote if it gets deleted or whatever.
Or would I get it back?

If it gets deleted today (StackLand time), yes

Oh, so it won't hurt either way.
Well, the question is good.
The description could be improved...

@Mat'sMug Hypothetical situation: You have an account on Code Review.... you like it.
You have a kid sibling, who is learning how to program, with your help....

2:15 AM
So?

you figure, get him to ask the question on CR, and I get to answer it....

Ask this, I'll answer that?

You are forwarned that the question will happen and you may well have an answer mostly ready.

But then why didn't answerer upvote the asker?

Wouldn't it be even more likely to have upvoted if it was one person?

2:17 AM
Asker can't upvote yet

Mmm, I see.

Oh well, now they can

It appears they did too.

@rolfl can mods somehow see who votes where, or that's just for SE devs?

Well, my gossip won't help either way, so I'm off to groom my dog.

2:19 AM
lol
Proving puppets/ vote fraud is hard

Well, hold on.
If they are puppets, there should be a couple more questions same problem within the next couple days.
Just watch.
We already have our watch dog on the alert - the Captain.
Ooh, I'm honored.
They linked their profile to my comment.

You can also subscribe to the user's rss feed if you really want to stalk 'em ;)

They probably clicked the notification in their inbox, then copy/pasted the URI with the comment in it.

That works. The permalink is on the timestamp if you need to link a comment
@RubberDuck oh nevermind.. private beta doesn't onebox

Two more darling teachers.
One just emailed me and asked me to resubmit an assignment I'd done wrong (there was a bit of a typo in the instructions).

2:46 AM
@Mat'sMug That's only for SE devs.

Q: Salesforce Report that searches long text fields, has customizable view, easy to update, etc

robertgfthomasI got really tired of how ugly and inflexible Salesforce Reports are. So I made this Apex/Visualforce combo that searches long text fields, makes adding and removing fields a snap, has a customizable view, and is generally easy(er) to work with. This basically does everything by shuttling JSON s...

Q: How To Properly Parallelize This Code

TrauerThe history: - I created a class called QuickBitmap to quickly get/set pixels in a Bitmap object. Using intertops I'm able to safely lock/unlock the bits of the Bitmap and with the use of methods like SaveBits, LoadBits, UpdateUnderlayingBitmap, GetPixel and SetPixel I can quickly and easily mani...

I keep making surreal assumptions about my classes. I shoulc have gone into CS instead of this career school.
I thought we would be coding databases from scratch, not 'just" making the tables in them...

:\

3:34 AM
@CaptainObvious I've read this as "How to properly paralyze this code." : )))
I have earned a Popular question badge for 1000+ views on my question and it only has 3 upvotes ... How good is that

@Mehrad Perhaps the views comes from search engine hits and it doesn't get many votes because the viewers don't have enough rep.

Statistics would say: only 0.3% of people liked what they have read :D
@Unihedro, the statistics would say: Only 0.3% of people had enough reputation and liked it :D

@Mehrad Yep. :P

@Unihedro I don't we have met before :D. I am Mehrad btw (as my @ says) :)

Though, the problem about CR is that CR users might not actively dig through old questions like other sites veteran does.
@Mehrad yes, hello

3:42 AM
And google does not always rank high on Code Review.

Google is mean to us? maybe we should really start using Bing :D
DuckDuck is my old favorite... it takes me to the dark side of the internet memories.

:p

@Unihedro have you played Minecraft in the past?
Jokes, you don't need to answer that. Man you know Regex

@Mehrad Mindcraft sounds like an interesting thingy.
(It's actually minecraft)

3:47 AM
hahah... I apologize. My muscle memory kicked in ...
I wish I could go to the past and edit that.

lol :D

Q: Initializing and printing an array using pointers and dynamic allocation in C

sbhatlaI have written a code for basic array creation and printing it's values in C. I would appreciate comments on how it can be improved, and the industry standards. @rolfl OH SH*T... Is this Mod Tools again?

@Unihedro have you played Minecraft in the past?

3:52 AM
@Mehrad yep

@Unihedro What are you talking about? didn't I say Minecraft? :P
Now I have another motive to be a moderator.

@Mehrad :|
feels has been mocked

lol kidding :D

This link should work for you, right? : chat.stackexchange.com/messages/19761317/history

It's too much power Mods have... I am worried I'd say something and they wipe my account off
@rolfl it definitely does :D damn there is proof

There's a pencil that shows up to the left of any chat message once edited.
that spot turns in to a 'drop down' if you hover over it.

If I legitimately went past and modified it, that wouldn't happen.

yes it would. ... like this
If you drop down that box, you can see more details, inluding the history links to your own edits.

Oh, that's right... I know that. somehow I was thinking a different way. Like Mods did it and it should be different. thanks

And, as for this:

It's too much power Mods have... I am worried I'd say something and they wipe my account off
Yeah, that's true, but, in reality, we can't abuse it at all.
The moment we did, we'd get thrown out. So, you end up with reasonable mods.
Also, there are very, very few things that mods do that are not public.
Those private things we do, are very seldom permanent, and they are all reported and audited.

4:00 AM
if only the word was goderator you guys would be gods

That's sweet, but, no.
Seen the moderator agreement? stackoverflow.com/legal/moderator-agreement

makes sense. The system should always prevent some nasty stuff anyways. I quite like that SE isn't like some forums which some just open their mouth and say things like nothing would happen(which doesn't)

> Stack Exchange Inc. reserves the right to terminate my privileges as a moderator at any time without warning.
That is not an idle threat.
But, in reality, I am an appointed moderator. At any time, someone in the community could request that I am removed, and if the SE folks share that concern, I am gone.

makes sense

Essentially, that is exactly how I got appointed.

4:04 AM
do you need to have a min amount of rep to be a mod?

On this site, no. On graduated sites, no.
On this site, and other betas, the SE staff appoint moderators.

^

On other sites, the users elect the moderators.

fair enough

Having rep helps, but it's not the defining factor.

4:05 AM
How many mods we have over here?
Should be a list somewhere

All beta sites have 3 appointed moderators.

WOW... only 3.
I could guess 200_success
well done... I am pretty sure you guys well deserve the responsibility

That's a complicated thing to respond to.
At the time, there were a lot of people who would have been fantastic candidates, and only two appointments were available.

I bet it's fair bit of work as well. Like I can tell Jamal is thinking of the edited version of what I am thinking can be a good question atm.

Jamal is, without doubt, the most prolific editing moderator on the whole of Stack Exchange.

Q: Code Prettify - Choose your favorite or make your own!

PhrancisWell all like code, let's face it. And with Code Review's upcoming graduation "colors" I'm sure that many would like for the large amount of code that is posted daily in questions and answers to look top-notch. Whether Stack Exchange would be able to get CR our own code formatting is a bit up i...

@StackExchange Hey there :)

His contributions to making questions on Code Review a consistent high quality are unsurpassed.
Then, for example, consider:

@rolfl Meh. :P

Not even a diamond on the front page of that.

wow... quite interesting
@Phrancis voted

4:12 AM
Roger

@rolfl it's good to have him around

@nhgrif In case you want to try your hand at making a style like you use on your end, since we were talking about it earlier today: meta.codereview.stackexchange.com/q/5008/42632

@Phrancis I like the dimmed line numbers

I do as well, glad I fixed the bug improved that feature ;D

@Mehrad - just so you know, though, I can think of probably a dozen people on the site who would all do good jobs as moderators, and, in their way, already do. On top of that, there's a lot of people who do great that I'm not aware of.
If/when code review gets elections, and so on, it is going to be hard to choose the right candidates because there'll be so many good ones.
Compare that with sites like scifi, or ux, who recently went through elections, and they were struggling to find a few good options.

4:17 AM
Didn't Math have a hard time too?

Yeah, and I look through the first 3 pages of users and I see at least 30 people who would easily 'qualify'.

Q: Optimize CSS Rule Dumper

Mr. PolywhirlI have written the following Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey script. I am trying to obtain a list of all CSS rules for a page; across all stylesheets. As of now, I am just iterating over everything. Is there a faster way to obtain the rules? Also, I feel that there is a more efficient way of converting...

(and by 'qualify', I mean people with a reasonable activity in meta, and main site, with some flagging history that shows a good sense of what's expected, and without issues in their history that will derail a campaign).

@rolfl On Math or CR?

CR
From that page forward, count the people who could reasonably get a net-positive vote count if an election were to happen now....

4:24 AM
Damn JD will pass Lippert soon :D

Actually, I could probably push it to 50 people from those 3 pages.

I can see that. It will definitely be exhilarating!

I am in page 18 :(

Yeah, rep makes a difference on that one, but look here: meta.codereview.stackexchange.com/users?tab=participation
That's a better gauge of who would be good candidates.
Page 2 there ;-)

Now feel better :D
I started from 4 cuz I didn't want to click 18 times this time
I like the vibe in CR. very positive and helping. It's just missing BradlyDotNet and Jon Skeet :D

4:32 AM
Skeet's been here (on CR) a few times

Never had a chance to talk to @reedcopsey before but he helped me out really well today. Couple of decent article to read.

@Phrancis Actually, no not really.
He's created an account, but never done anything.

Oh, were those answers migrated?

^^^ that

Don't migrate Skeet!!!

4:35 AM
Answers to a question are like passengers on a boat, they just travel with it!

data.stackexchange.com/codereview/query/206619/… <--- by the way, I use that as a measure of people's participation on the site as well.
(sort by value-add)

I think I did that wrong.
I wanted to quote something I me in the past

drop the box on the item you want to quote, and copy the link in the 'permalink'. Paste the link here.

my English is all crippled today :/
@rolfl thanks. again the last place I would check.

@Mehrad I've talked with Reed Copsey.
Real knowledgeable, but wants everyone to switch to F#.

4:45 AM
He is surely knowledgable
Maybe he got a point. We never know until we know as much as he does

NetScape is also knowledgeable, as is Johan Larson (sp?).
I learned a lot from them.

NetScape :o

Browser?

Yes?

Yeah, but that is the guy's user name.
He's not that old either.

4:47 AM
Oh.

@rolfl Huh? I rank first???
TTGTB here, good night CR!

Monkey-SQL never lies, @Mat'sMug.

Recent rep, I'm on the first page all categories.

Q: Sort Bean attributes based on boolean values

divaBelow is my BEAN : public class Policy { @Expose @SerializedName("bluetooth") public PolicyState mDisableBluetooth; // sort the field @Expose @SerializedName("wif") // sort the field public PolicyState mDisableWifi; ....OTHER FIELDS /** * ...

@Mat'sMug You vote 15-times more than you are reasonably expected to, and you ask good questions that get lots of highly-voted answers.
2
Yes, you add a lot of value.
Your questions have generated > 900 votes for other people, that's 9K of rep your questions have made available to others.
that's second only to JavaDeveloper, who's questions have generated > 1300 votes (or 10K rep).

So what does the Feedback Ratio column mean?
I'm two users below you, @rolfl.

That's the complicated one. On Code Review, Me, Myself, and I expect you to vote for any answers on questions you ask, to accept one of them, and to vote on any questions you answer. Those votes can be up or down.
Any vote, plus, or minus, and an accept, is feedback.
