Q: Need help for a small brute force application (C-Programming)

Dave DexterHello my name is David and I am from germany. I am sorry for my english, but it is really bad. I am trying to develope a small brute force application in C. As operating system I use Ubuntu 14.04. My CPU is an Intel Core i7-920@2.67GHz(stock). My question is, how can I use MD5_Init, MD5_Update ...

Is it possible to review malware ?

It's not malware unless it's malware ;-)
brute forcing things is a surprisingly common thing to do.

Q: Brute Force Algorithm in C

syb0rgThis is a simple brute force algorithm I have in C. All the program does it print out every possible combination of the given alphabet for the given length. I would prefer suggestions on how to improve the algorithm, or decrease run-time. Any other suggestions are acceptable though. #include <...

THere's a meta post about it too, somewhere.

Q: How well is "malicious" code accepted here?

syb0rgI recently asked a question that could possibly be used for malicious purposes. I tried to whittle the code down as much as I could to a "base" program so that a script kiddie wouldn't stumble across it and wreck havoc. However, I have written other more "malicious" programs (for testing securi...

Nothing interesting, at all.

@outoftime What?

@Phrancis - you know you can clear notifications by pressing 'esc'... right?

of course...

@rolfl what if it is a virus ?

nvm, I cannot find the source

10:40 PM
@syb0rg have nothing to do
Boring..

So... I got a question... I'm thinking PHP here and I just had an idea to design a Song Name generator to help my partner pick up better song names than dubstep1, dubstep2, etc.
I'm thinking of storing arrays of words within arrays of characteristics... would this be a decent approach?

arrays of characteristics?

Think... An array for tempo with ['slow', 'fast'] containing sub arrays with, say, colors or adjectives.
And so on. Probably about 3 characteristics, and then an input field for the musical genre
I could very easily do this in SQL but it's the wrong tool for the job, clearly.

so you want to specify a list of characteristics and get a corresponding random name?

So the program would simply select one word at random from the sub-array for each characteristic and string all that together.
Basically, yeah.

10:52 PM
sounds fine to me

OK. You know where I can find info about how to do this? I wouldn't even know what to smoke search for in the documentation...
(selecting a value from sub-array)

google php random
maybe start simpler, just have two arrays of words. figure out how to get a random element from the first array, and a random element from the second

@Phrancis don't write at php (:

^^^ we keep telling him ;-)

> pick up better song names than dubstep1, dubstep2, etc.

@Phrancis where and why?

11:03 PM
@rolfl I'm not getting it. Most of my answers are like that. Why am I not in the list?

check this out
You've earned the "Refiner" badge (Edited and answered 50 questions (both actions within 12 hours, answer score > 0)).
Weird, 5 people got that silver badge but none of us got the bronze badge....

@outoftime I keep renaming them eventually (and will keep doing so) once we come up with a decent title, but it's annoying to get a Facebook message asking, "Are you done with that trance song?" to which I reply, "Which one? trance7, trance8 or trance10?"

who has 500 answers anyway?

11:08 PM
And PHP right now because I won't have to design & compile an interface, just easy-peasy HTML.
And finally, @outoftime this is where.

@Phrancis any chance i could convince you to switch to C# (assuming you run windows)?

Runs OSX

well on os x there's xamarin, but it's not as convenient as linqpad

Why not python django?
@Phrancis look at link above

11:13 PM
Because I would have to design an interface...?
And it's not important enough to where I want to do that :)

no, just because xamarin studio is still a bit young and clunky

I did get suggested to learn Python, and am planning on it, just not for this right now
I think this will do me just fine for now (until after I post the code for review)

Q: selecting a random element from a php associative array

JeffThis should be simple but I haven't found an appropriate answer. (I wouldn't ask if I didn't try to find the answer from dozens of searches...) I've got an associative array in PHP and want to select a random key/value pair out of it. Here's what I have so far: Initialize... $locations = arra...

@Phrancis I like combination of angularjs + django-rest-framework which is library for djnago that allows make simple restful api.

@Phrancis ruggenberg.nl/titels.html look at js in this page
Does solution like that acceptable for you?

@Pimgd I think one of the criteria is that the edits have to be done in 12 hours.... so, since the question is not yet 12 hours old, it is probably not yet picked up in the job that awards the badges.... maybe if you are patient?

@outoftime That could work, but it's no fun if I don't get to write it, you know? ;-)

@Phrancis you always can make a port into, e.g. php (:

@Phrancis, you've read this right? wiki.theory.org/YourLanguageSucks#PHP_sucks_because
(Says the VBA monkey duck...)

GN all!

11:39 PM
@RubberDuck great page
been a while since I looked at it, so I wonder if anything's been added

'Night @outoftime
@RubberDuck I had not. Now I have. Its PHP section is significantly longer than its VB section. For all that says about either...

some of those language sections are way too short

good night

Q: best readble way to do

Emilio GortRecently I had a test and I wrote this code in half hour, but they didn't like my code because was "deplete and nested" they said. In order to improve my skills in what way this code could be more readable and less nested. Exercise The validBraces method takes a string of braces as a single pa...
