Welcome to Code Review! Unfortunately at this stage you're more into the design than the actual implementation, and as a result there's not much code to be reviewed. I suggest you ask on Programmers.StackExchange, and come back here when you've got a working implementation. — Mat's Mug 10 secs ago

wtf????
quick question about double brace initialization..
Location stub = new Location() {{
     setLocationName("");
}};
ModelConverters.convert(stub);

@Vogel612 I'm here!

why is the parameter I pass not a Location?
@skiwi I think I broke Java...

If the assignment succeeds, then it is at least a subtype of Location...

btw. that's your code..

check imports to see if it's the correct one

8:42 AM
@skiwi but it's the type of the TestClass...

It has to work

@Vogel612 You print a this inside the double brace?

no...
I just do exactly as written above..
no this, no nothing.

strange
You broke it.

8:44 AM
told ya..
but this time ima ask the SO question, okay?

Don't break Java, it's bad.
Can you compile with javac first?
Might be that Eclipse fails, though still worth a SO question

@Vogel612 How have you broken Java?

@SimonAndréForsberg read above...
@skiwi how do I run my unit-tests then???

@Vogel612 You are calling the setLocationName method of your Location. I don't see how you would break Java?
That's like doing Location stub = new Location(); stub.setLocationName("");

@SimonAndréForsberg the problem is, that stub typeof Location returns false afterwards.
see screenshot.

Q: TaggedLogger - Log wrapper

Leonid SemyonovSorry for my English I wrote this class in order to not to write every time tag (duplication and chance of typos). public class TaggedLogger { public static final TaggedLogger GLOBAL = new TaggedLogger("Global"); private final String tag; public static TaggedLogger forClass(Class<?>

@Vogel612 What is "input" in your screenshot? I don't see any 'stub' variable in your screenshot.

input is stub....

Also, I believe it's called stub instanceof Location

@SimonAndréForsberg meh.

this$0 is a reference to the outer class, as your Location is a private anonymous non-static inner class
I am quite sure that stub is still an instanceof Location
All non-static inner classes has a reference to an object of their outer class

9:00 AM
@SimonAndréForsberg but why do I get a IllegalStateException then?

@Vogel612 where/how do you get that?

okay, stub is instanceof location..

I haven't seen any code indicating that you should throw an IllegalStateException

when I execute my test-case....

stacktrace?
code?

9:01 AM
gimme a sec, ima clean up my SO question....
and there you will see.
okay, it's input.getClass(), that returns the wrong thing...
but why is that??

input.getClass returns a subclass of Location
So if you are doing input.getClass() == Location.class, that will return false
Location.class.isAssignableFrom(input.getClass()) however, should return true.

Q: Double Brace initialization Type Confusion

Vogel612I thought this was going to be relatively easy, but alas, it seems it isn't. I am currently writing Unit-Tests for a Facade-like structure in my Project using Java EE 6. @SimonAndréForsberg but it is not a subclass of Location...

> It seems that input.getClass() returns ModelConvertersFacadeTests
that is not true

@SimonAndréForsberg why is it in the stacktrace that way then?
> No mapping found for class com.example-company.test.unit.util.converters.ModelConvertersFacadeTests$1
and why does it work, when I don't use double-brace initialization?

@Vogel612 See my answer to your question, does this make sense?

9:17 AM
it would make sense if it were true....
the problem is, that input.getClass() returns ModelConverterFacadeTests....
i don't care if you don't believe me...
I got it black on white on my screen....

@Vogel612 10 bucks that it is actually ModelConvertersFacadeTests$1, which is not the same thing as ModelConvertersFacadeTestsSimon André Forsberg 16 secs ago

as said, 10 bucks to you...

:)
You can pay me in reputation and a green checkmark instead

@SimonAndréForsberg let me wait a bit for more answers, but if there's nothing until after lunch (about 1.5 hours), you get another 15 rep from me ;)
btw @SimonAndréForsberg I am doing something similar in another test of mine, which does not rely on the .getClass()...
I use double-brace to create a few instances of ? extends Location to a hashmap...
the hashmap is <Location, String>...

@Vogel612 then it would work fine.

9:24 AM
if I now use one of these instances, I'd get Location, right?

@Vogel612 technically, you get a subclass of Location, which of course also is a Location
but if you do .getClass you will get SomethingSomething$1
i.e. an anonymous inner class

so there is no implicit cast to Location for the Object I put in there...

I personally would not recommend using double-brace initialization though, if you can do it without subclassing

Well it was to keep things in one place...
and not have a setter call in the unit-test for something different.

@Vogel612 There's no need to cast a subclass of Location to a Location, that assignment can be done without any hassle

9:26 AM
makes sense...

Well, now you know the problems that double-brace initialization can cause :)

yaaay.

I kind of hate it when guys on StackOverflow do meaningless code review on example code without answering the actual question.

@Morwenn such as where?

@SimonAndréForsberg A question I shared here yesterday. Basically, I ask "This code fails, why?". I do not ask "How could I have done this better/differently?".

Basically, the comments say "it works with another compiler", "inheriting does not look like a good idea here", "don't use using namespace boost::multiprecision;", "learn the difference between using directives and using declarations".
The first comment was useful.

I thought Code Review was supposed to be the place for half of those comments...

10:32 AM
That's exactly my thought. In the end, people guess that it's a compiler bug, but nobody explained anything :/
And I don't post production code on SO, I post simple example code to reproduce the bug. Hence the using namespace boost::multiprecision, since qualifying everything with boost::multiprecision is quite long and hinders readability.

@SimonAndréForsberg +7 / +5 almost there!

The one you've never tested for iOS before?

1:07 PM
That's the one
Mainly because I'm developing it while testing on Android
It's using Xamarin.Forms so if I don't go into platform-specific code, all I have to do is buy a Xamarin.iOS license and publish it

Without having ever tested on an iOS device or even a simulator?
Good luck.
To me, that is absurdly crazy.

hehe, no worries I'll test it before publishing it

Where I work, we have 4 different iOS devices to test on. And I mean... 4 different kinds of devices. We have more like 12 total. Also, for the Windows desktop software we develop, we have computers running every version of Windows since XP.

I believe at work what I've seen mostly Windows runs all in virtual machins, Microsoft publishes specific 30-day or 60-day licenses for those
Does git checkout branchName also change the files on disk physically?
I've got a tool that doesn't have git support, hence I'm asking if it works if I switch the branch via command line

Random numbers?

1:29 PM
yup
apparently someone already had the solution that I wanted. stackoverflow.com/a/2394292/179910

I don't understand what M is in that pseudocode.
Nevermind, must be the quantity of numbers required
I will still implement this and compare both the results and time to rolfl's answer.

@nhgrif If rolfl's code don't get a collision then it may be a bit slower. But on average it will be much faster.

1:51 PM
That's why you test it several times with several different scenarios

I don't really mind that kind of slowness. It will be better 95% of times or so. And when it's slower it will just be at most for a branch prediction cost.

Kidding me. I accidentally watched the season finale of Falling Skies without watching the episode before it
