Morning!
That above question is off-topic.
Someone starred it?

@Jamal Do you mean this question? That's off topic!? Nooooo!? Really? You're kidding me!

I mean "Python Calculator Help."
And that, too.

CVA'd that too :)

I think I finally need to buy Sublime Text.

Sublime Text?

7:10 PM
Code Editor.

The video looks slick.... but it is windows only?

Pretty much anything I need for developing.

Q: Review my replace radio/checkbox plugin

John ElswiskI've just created my first plugin, but i think i've written to much bloated code. Could you point me to the right direction? Maybe tackle some beginner mistakes. $.fn.replaceme = function() { function add_essentials(element) { var native_btn = element; native_type = native_b...

<kbd>F11</kbd> is fullscreen.
Oh.
Window s

See, I like my things Linux friendly....

7:12 PM
It's for OS X/Linux as well.
"Sublime Text is available for OS X, Windows and Linux."
There are some really cool features. Multi-cursor for example.
You place your cursor somewhere and mark additional cursor locations with Ctrl-Click. Then you can edit multiple lines at once.
Or you select something like .page-- and hit Ctrl-D. It selects the next occurence of .page-- as well.
And I just decided to write my first post for my website and making it official. :) It was live before, but for testing purposes. There are some things to rework and consider, but this won't be finished anyway. It's an on-going process.

@kleinfreund In coding, having to edit multiple lines is known as code duplication, and if you find yourself doing it then you probably want to extract a method.
Although there might not be many methods in CSS...

This is a whole different story for things like HTML and CSS.

Our next user to 10K is Gareth Rees, but he's still about 2600 rep away from 10K. Darn.

Then how do you know he's going to be next?

Bah, if you're coding VB6 in a real-world business, they don't give a damn and even encourage that kind of crap!

7:19 PM
In your HTML markup, having multiple occurences of the same snippets of code is nothing unusual. Selecting all <li> and add a class to all of them.

@sim sort by rep?

@lol.upvote You're kidding me!? Code duplication is actually encouraged in VB6?

And it's these little things: Select " {" or ": "

@sim no, just where I work. "Just get it to work, make it pretty later, aka never"

Ugh. I feel you. :(

7:22 PM
@lol Don't tell my boss, but I've actually been doing a little bit more refactoring lately than I am supposed to :)

Can't hurt, huh?

If only their definition of "working" was in line with "tested" and "bug-free"...
2
@sim how do I tell your boss?

You don't :) He's on vacation for two weeks!

Ironically I had my yearly review yesterday, I scored the highest "we never give that score" possible score for "technical knowledge".
2

Well done! Congratulations!
And if you're keeping this up, then you're going to score the most-starred-messages-in-a-row award!

7:27 PM
Yeah, thanks! Now I have to focus on getting to the office on time... how 20th century!

Technically, I'm 15 minutes late every day.

I never count my hours. I work overnight over a vpn if I have to. I expect it to come with a Gandalf-type schedule - "never late, I show up when I'm supposed to"
3

Oh crap, I just gotta star that too

lol

@lol You did that on purpose, didn't you? Must - resist - starring...

7:32 PM
Mwahahaha

I need to focus on creating a better TTT AI!
I gotta figure out a nice way to make it know that it can win a board when there's two in a row...
Anyone else working on their TTT?

Bait worked! 5 stars in a row! What do I win?

yeah yeah yeah ;)
@lol.upvote Five lines of an ultimate-TTT game:
  012 345 678
 -------------
0|...|  O|X  |
1|...|   | X |
2|OO.|XO |  X|

Not-so-ultimate UI though ;p

Maybe not :) The UI will come later. I am actually considering making this an Android app.

7:45 PM
@Simon Are you currently outputting text?

@kleinfreund Yep. Pure good old text.

How about these: └ ├
:D
┌──┬──┐
│ │ │
├──┼──┤
│ │ │
└──┴──┘

Naah, that's @rolfl style.

tss

@SimonAndréForsberg I was thinking that too... ;-)

7:48 PM
@kleinfreund @rolfl's are actually more... complex:
private static final char[][] symbols = {
    "╔═╤╦╗".toCharArray(),
    "║ │║║".toCharArray(),
    "╟─┼╫╢".toCharArray(),
    "╠═╪╬╣".toCharArray(),
    "╚═╧╩╝".toCharArray(),
};

Q: Sudoku Week-End Challenge - Brute-Force Recursive solver

rolflThis is part of my attempt at the Week-End Challenge #3. The overall problem is larger than will fit in one question. This is a well-contained subset of my larger program. The goal of this part is to brute-force all possible (if any) solutions to a puzzle. The input to this algorithm is a 2-dime...

I think the Sudoku grid-drawing logic is fairly identical to Tic-Tactics

Yup, I think you'll be able to re-use that code.

It looks better on a proper output terminal without the between-line spacing.

That's what I was thinking

Where's my LINQ?!?

In ;p

7:55 PM
Please use LINQ like crazy for me, @lol.upvote.

        public CellValue? Winner(IDictionary<BoardPosition, BoardCell> cells, out IEnumerable<BoardPosition> positions)
        {
            var winning = Enum.GetValues(typeof(CellValue)).Cast<CellValue>()
                              .Select(value => WinningPositions(cells, value))
                              .SingleOrDefault(tuple => tuple != null);

            positions = winning != null
                ? new[] { winning.Item1, winning.Item2, winning.Item3 }
                : null;

            return winning != null

That's the spirit!
What is a BoardPosition?

Shhhh, it's a secret

Good. Then we will keep our implementation secrets. The final result will be much more exciting that way.
Otherwise we'll probably just end up with a whole bunch of more or less equal implementations, and that wouldn't be .

maybe
I just thought I'd do something different than the typical approach this time.

7:59 PM
Nice, looking forward to it!

:)
Your code is seems much more advanced than mine though

Have you even seen any of my actual code yet?

no, but I have zero I/O

aha :)
I might have worked a bit more than you also. I've been working on this all day. Although basic I/O was one of the first things I fixed, even before I added some tests.

I started with a BoardCell class.

8:03 PM
With BoardCell being a 3x3 board or a 1x1 tile? (I assume 1x1)

1x1. Call a cat, a cat!

I started with the TTTUltimate class, which is essentially the big game. Gotta rename that...

I have namespace TicTactics and namespace TicTacTest.
oh shit
I forgot the answers feed!

Anyone has votes left for the answers feed?

Sorry. :/

8:12 PM
answers feed updated.

Q: Criticize my c++ project

user1421485I am new to c++ programming and I am making a project in c++ for neural networks.I want criticism so I can "patch" my skills. https://github.com/0x000FF4/neuralNetworkC--.git

@kleinfreund are you done destroying @Malachi's site?
3

@lol He wasn't here today.
He will need to look through the stuff I've posted over there. And he will have questions. We continue after this. :)

8:29 PM
good idea!
hey @tintinmj!

Hey @tin man

@lol.upvote hello man
@kleinfreund hi!

@tintinmj Bless You!!!

Hm. So we now have the same number of 10K users as Bicycles SE.
2

All active?

8:35 PM
Nope. One was active back in '11.

Anyone got votes?

I'm dry

I have a few left.

(I want to confirm an experiment.... they can have their vote right back...).

edit it
rep-cap vs voting order experiment?

8:37 PM
@Jamal pick an answer you have not voted on of mine.....
exactly... I want to see it happen.
I have more upvotes than the cap at the moment.

I can already tell you, the +1's are not a stack that's waiting for your daily rep to drop below 200...

The documentation/FAQ for rep says it in a way that suggests it is....

really?

> You can earn a maximum of +200 reputation from upvotes and suggested edits in any given day. Accepted answers and bounties are counted separately (source). Reputation "lost" from the reputation cap is not awarded on following days.

A: How does "Reputation" work?

Justin StandardWhat does Reputation do? As a registered user, your reputation on the site is a part of your identity on the site. It reflects, to an extent, your familiarity with the site, the amount of subject matter expertise you have and the level of respect your peers have for you. It can generally only be...

Q: prototypal inheritance javascript

8:44 PM
@Jamal - thanks.... here I am like a twit waiting for my rep to change... and it did, already.....
within moments I'm getting more upvotes... back to 200.... so I did not see it.

I didn't even downvote it.

someone else did

But thank you.... this will also give me a replay-situation to test on monday when the new data comes in.....

@tintinmj?

@lol.upvote yeah?

wazzit you?

upvotes? yeah me :D

A: Basic bingo game in Java

palacsint The BingoBoard class does not fulfill the single responsibility principle. It handles the table and also prints it. I'd extract out the printing logic (and other IO logic too) to a separate class. This would make unit-testing easier and help if you want to use a graphical or web UI instead of co...

Good night, everyone. Have a nice weekend.

Night!

good night!

Speaking leaderboards, we have a new #3

Congrats, 200!

9:55 PM
@200_success: I've just discovered we have . I'm trying to determine if it's necessary. If not, I can post it on Meta.

I'd follow Svick's reasonning: is this a tag one would want to "follow" or "ignore"?

It's a useless tag, I think. Burninate?

I agree!

With only 6 questions, I suppose we can still remove the tag manually.

@Jamal @rolfl Thanks!
@rolfl Brave of you to ask for downvotes without specifying how many! Do you still want more?
3

10:05 PM
No ... thanks... ;-)
@200_success been working on a little project:
Fascinatingly close.... ;-)
I will rename the colors in a bit....

Interesting spacing of the grid lines on the horizontal axis — not that you have control over that.

@Jamal Isn't all code posted on Code Review automatically open-source?

10:21 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg: Yes.

Q: Should we send [open-source] packing?

JamalI've just discovered that we have an open-source tag. This tag appears to be useless because, as per SE's CC BY-SA license, all material posted is subject to public use within the guidelines. Alongside that, these questions have nothing else in common, and it seems to be an older tag. Burninat...

@rolfl Love your query! Although I really haven't gotten as much rep lately as I used to. Yesterday was the first day for the entire year I got rep-capped.

@rolfl yeah that's a very nice one, good work!

Damn, just when I was about to test an improved AI I get a failing test...

I'm refactoring my code to use generics - deleting lots of crap ;)

11:40 PM
I can imagine :)
I've also refactored to use generics a bit, but there's more refactoring that will be done there later
AI Improved vs. AI Random: 7329 wins, 564 draws, 2107 losses (77,67 %)
10000 games played in 10476.922556 milliseconds
Quite a significant improvement, just by a tiny little change.

I wonder how my AI will compare to that!

I'm gonna create another AI as soon as Eclipse gets restarted :P
Ctrl+Space stopped working!

hahahaha

@SimonAndréForsberg you need chris hadfield... he's Ctrl-space ;-)

Amazing. That was down to 743 after CoD; went back up just below 800 and I think this is the lowest I've seen it in quite a long while

Here I want to join the star-party by starring stuff and then I realize: I still have no stars

Q: Why [questions] and [asking-questions] on meta?

ChrisWIf I want to scan the list of titles of all topics on meta about 'questions', then I need to do that twice (once for each tag). Could one of them be burned or synonymized or merged with the other (I don't know which)?

Ugh. Out of stars :)

11:57 PM
No more funny stuff to star?

@syb0rg Write something funny!

But you all don't have stars. I do :P
