prefetching is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much harder than it looks

@sim congrats on your #1 position of last week's user rep leagues, you crushed us all!

1:03 AM
send me a link....
he is number 1 for the month too @retailcoder, Nice work @SimonAndréForsberg

@retailcoder @Malachi I have to thank you guys for voting from me. (Although I don't have any proof that you actually have voted for me, I would be very surprised if you haven't). I honestly couldn't have done it without your votes.

you couldn't have done it with bad answers @SimonAndréForsberg

@Malachi Lol, yeah well I guess that's true also. I do think that @rolfl In many cases have written better answers than I have. (Then again, I'm not the one working on Watson.)
@retailcoder Whoa, now I understand what you mean by crushed. I didn't know I had gained that much more than everyone else :O stackexchange.com/leagues/86/week/codereview
On my month stats it says "1,272 total reputation. 1,348 month reputation" How on earth does that work? How can month > total?

1:28 AM
@SimonAndréForsberg I think it's SE-wide
@SimonAndréForsberg no, it's not.. still searching...
Wait, the week isn't finished yet!!
@SimonAndréForsberg I vote for answers/questions, I don't vote for people - I'll often vote and then look at who my vote is going to :)

Q: Unit of work, Ninject, Repository and WebAPI implementation

Daniel Dawesso, after recently getting a bulk of work done on my WebAPI service layer, I thought I'd post some of my working on here for you guys to tear apart, generally, most of it 'feels' mostly ok, but I know there are areas for improvement. Hopefully no screaming issues with it: 1) Someone is going to ...

(unless I clicked on a chat link posted by @Malachi of course)
got 3 silver badges, and 33 bronze ones. having a gold one would throw it all off.

1:50 AM
Damn, only 1 vote left, I'm so not learning!!
(991 questions with no upvoted answers / 908 unanswered)

+130 rep today, and I did not do anything

@rolfl you mean yesterday; well you did post a nice answer, it helps :)

Meh, I posted it before I went to bed .... that's a cheat ....
Today I worked, and, damn it, I shovelled!
30cm of white stuff and it's still November.

@rolfl if it's any consolation: codereview.stackexchange.com/users/23788/…
Woah, where are you at? We haven't had 1cm yet in my area!

Ohhh.... I hope you had fun today.... went to a hokey game or something....

1:57 AM
@rolfl well I didn't review anything last night, looks like only @SimonAndréForsberg can earns rep by sleeping!

2:16 AM
@Malachi you beat me by 1pt! :)

2:32 AM
what do you mea I beat you by 1 pt?
@retailcoder I do some tag wikis when I can
I need one more upvote on this answer and then I am going to remove it

@Malachi you're at 1528, I'm at 1527 :)

A: Improve speed of LINQ query

Malachiit's so bunched together I can barely make out what is what. but Ratchet freak is right, you only need the Order BY on the Outside Query, it's the same in SQL, the inside queries aren't doing anything that needs them to be in order for any reason, you just need the final result to be in orde...

@Malachi Just did, had forgotten it

@retailcoder I posted the relevant part of my answer as a comment on ratcherfreak's answer

I upvoted ratchetfreak's answer.. and ran out of ammo!
There's no such thing as _zombie looting_

2:53 AM
try now

3:04 AM
nope. there's no looting, gotta fix that post.

3:25 AM
Finally

What's crazy about it?
There is a binary attached on the release tab if you are interested

hello all
@Malachi I think the tag wiki edits for PHP SPL should refer to "PHP Standard Library" rather than "PHP Standard Libraries".

@Paul, can you suggest wiki edits? I was a little confused when I looked up SPL, you probably know it better than I do.
I just thought that it should have it's own tag.

4:07 AM
Hi @Paul! :)

@Malachi I can't edit the tag because your edit is pending, but I would write something like: "Code focussed around the use of the PHP Standard library."
hello retailcoder

how can you see it even if it hasn't been accepted?

@Malachi It was in the review queue.

I changed it BTW.

oh, nice. I can't change my review, hopefully it will be approved soon.

Q: C++ linq-like library

Bryan ChenI want to implement something like C# Linq in C++ Currently only select and where is implemented, but others should be fairly easy if I can make a good structure. The main concerns I have is I am not sure when to pass reference and when to pass value. Also how it works with different types (arr...

Q: The Review Monster is Awake

retailcoderNot so long ago, there were dark times. Meet Bob: http://creattica.com/vector/the-programmer/39902 Bob has been programming for a little while now. When he was ever stumped on a problem he'd scrape the whole Internet to find answers, and get the thing to work. But Bob isn't the type...

Are we really at 91%?!? I've never seen it there before since I came to CR.

says 90% for me just now

all we need to do now is start breaking up some of those answers into several answers.

Yeah just saw.. this means we're at around like 90.443%

still that is so cool.

Q: why this java code doesn't work?

TennismanWrite a Java program QuestionTwo.java that reads in a single string token from the input (the string token is a sequence of non-white space characters). The string token can be assumed to be in the following form(letter,digit,letter,digit,letter,digit,...,letter,digit) So for example the input mi...

@StackExchange gotta be faster than @Jamal on these ones :)
@Jamal I gotta stop posting non-questions on meta huh?
@Malachi right, means we're getting [very] close to 91%

I liked that one @retailcoder

@Malachi I just had to. Still I wonder what discussion could come out of a post like that. I feel like I'm having a one-way conversation with the rest of the community when I do that, it's like against the spirit. But I had to.
@Malachi and CR turns you into a monster might not be the best marketing now that I think of it.

5:19 AM
When should refactoring tag not be used?
@retailcoder, I liked it

I wonder what my meta-rep would be if we were a graduated site..

@retailcoder, check out this question. it has a picture of Piccard doing a face palm

which one?

I think the only meta site you gain specific rep for is Stackexchange meta

Q: How do I refactor a bunch of if structures into LINQ?

Tom WijsmanSo, I've written a lengthy procedure that I call a few times to apply filters defined by the customer to a table, as I didn't see how I could turn my column name string into a LINQ column and how I could turn my action string into an action on a string in such way that the function can be used in...

lol!

5:22 AM
I rolled back the removing of the refactoring tag.....
didn't make sense to not have it there....... am I wrong in doing that there?
I am outta here for the night

@Malachi I guess not. In a sense is quite broad if you accept any rewrite. Technically answers would show the refactoring steps.
All right! See ya!

would you have removed the refactoring tag?

no.

then I consider it a good Roll Back....lol @retailcoder

lol got your [badge:cleanup] yet?

5:30 AM
yep
I am up to 30 Bronze badges now
and 4 silver

Q: CRTP overload-set nightmare

QuuxplusoneI'm not sure if this belongs on CodeReview or StackOverflow, but we'll start with it here. Q: What's the difference between Questions/Unanswered and Unanswered/NoAnswers?

retailcoderIn all likelihood I'm missing something about the notion of what exactly an answered question actually is, ..or there seems to be a bug in the counter. Go to Questions/unanswered, you get X: Go to Unanswered/no answers, you get Y: What's the difference between the two views for the numbers...

@Malachi I see something else on the tag wiki editing. vanilla.js is a parody, not a real framework. I don't think it should be a tag for Code Review.

Maksim DmitrievI'm reading Professional Node.js: Building Javascript Based Scalable Software by Pedro Teixeira, and created a web page responding with www.google.de. @Malachi I see the tag has been set to "The Vanilla.js framework isn't actually a framework, but a joke about JavaScript frameworks. Using Vanilla.js means you're not using a framework." by a recent edit. I don't think the tag should even exist. I'll be editing it out of questions.

shouldn't be too hard @Paul, it should only be on one question. please tell me why there shouldn't be a tag for Vanilla though. how is it a parody, is it supposed to mean just pure Javascript?

user3001818I have attemped to define a function which scan an int value in a specified range and returns that value. @Malachi Yes. Vanilla.js = Pure javascript. Since it's so rare that people use pure javascript without a framework (or two). I agree that the tag should be removed.

@Jamal, or any other moderator that may be watching, or anyone. we had talked about not editing in code, because of licensing, but here I see that a Moderator has done this very thing, there is an accepted answer on the question, but I think it should be rolled back and closed, anyone else?

Malachithe Question The Reason: we have had discussions before about not editing in code because of licensing, and that adding any code must be done by the OP and not someone else, same with reviewing third party code. Q: How best to implement a POCO editor which is split over a number of TabItems?

paulI am currently working on a project which uses the MVVM pattern. I have a POCO which I want to present in an editor and, because the object is composed from a number of smaller, reusable POCOs, I thought it would be appropriate to show it in a TabControl. The result looks like this: On the lef...

Q: Pygame: Can someone help make this code more efficient?

Sam TubbI am doing my best to keep this code clean and fast, but as I add more to the game it seems to get harder to maintain a frame-rate higher than 200! The game is essentially a sim-city clone, and I believe that the culprit is a somewhat large for loop inside of the main loop. It performs all of th...

@rolfl: One more upvote on the COBOL answer, and you'll earn Necromancer. :-)

9:26 PM
@Jamal huh, I figured I should have that already, now that I look.... I don't... obviously.
The trick is finding people to look at COBOL tag and actuall vote (most people voting have blown their ammo on zombies!)
Funny, I thought the Random Number question was older than it was... I 'shot' it as a Zombie.....
The problem with the Zombi work many have been doing (me included) is that often the OP has gone with the wind, and thus no-one can accept the answers too.
@Anyone - is it just me or are there no 'audit - congratulations you have passed' tests in the review process?

@rolfl: Yes, there isn't one for some odd reason.

lol

9:53 PM
Although, even if there was an audit, I think we would do pretty well. :-) Little to no robo-reviewing going on here.

Q: Thread pool on C++11

Paolo BrandoliThe class supplies a simple thread pool that uses the thread class from C++11. When I schedule the job, I pass two std::function objects that the pool will execute: the first function is the real job, the second is executed to send some sort of notification that the job has been done. I'm not s...

@rolfl I guess one possible reason for why there's no review audits is that we're in beta. And that we don't have 96k+ questions in the close queue.

11:09 PM
@sim tough day eh?
10pts today, looks like we're climbing the same hill!

11:33 PM
@retailcoder We all need to rest sometime. I haven't written a single answer today. We'll see about this coming week.
@retailcoder Although I have actually been coding today, not resting... (Or shooting at zombies)

@SimonAndréForsberg I wish I had been coding today, they messed something up with the domain at work and now my VPN access won't work! Such a long weekend!
I wrote only 2 answers in the last 24 hours, both zombified..
