Q: Responsive design for international sites has been released

Nicolas ChabanovskyI am excited to announce that international sites have gotten the new responsive design Wednesday, September 26th. Last week, all beta and undesigned sites got the new theme: Some things to be aware of: Left Navigation is active on most pages (but can be collapsed into a menu by visi...

Q: International Stack Overflows: Unlimited, On Time, and Comprehensive in your native language

Nicolas Chabanovsky TL;DR People have asked, “What is the mission of our International Sites? What problems do they solve?” The answer, “They are just like Stack Overflow in English, only in a different language” makes the International Sites even more mysterious. We thought that it would be great to dispel ...

Q: Links in the footer in international sites should allow to point to translated pages

PikohWe have found a "problem" in Stack Overflow en español. (I also think it would be the same in all international sites) In the footer of the site we can find this text: diseño del sitio / logo © 2018 Stack Exchange Inc; contribuciones de usuarios licenciadas bajo cc by-sa 3.0 con atribución r...

Q: Your community’s current problems, findings, and initiatives

Nicolas ChabanovskyRemember how you started programming? I’d bet that when many of you were kids who played with graphic editors after school and at some point decided to find out what the difference between .img and .exe files was. As a result, you installed Turbo Pascal and instead of working with funny pictures,...

Q: The Terminal: a chat room for international site users

Nicolas Chabanovsky One of the key factors of our success is effective communication. I am glad to introduce a chat room “The Terminal”. It’s a place for international site users and anyone else who is passionate about our communities. In creating the chat room I would like to improve: Communication between com...

@NicolasChabanovsky Would it be a good idea to enable the "translate" feature here?

@gparyani Hi! Could you please tell me about it in a few words. I have not heard about such feature before.

@NicolasChabanovsky Enable the feature that allows for one to say translate: [words in any language] and have the Feeds system user automatically respond with an English translation of said words.

hiya! Nice to have this chat, will try my best to enter when possible : )

@gparyani Get it! Thank you! I think I've seen it somewhere before. I'll ask my colleagues about it.
@fedorqui Hey! Thanks! I hope it will allow as move faster and smoother.
By the way, @fedorqui could you please clarify this comment
In SOes we have Advertencias en preguntas potencialmente problemáticas. That is, warnings on potentially problematic questions. It is a set of words that trigger warnings that are displayed in the UI when someone is about to ask. For example, if someone seems to be writing in English, we warn them about the site being in Spanish. It is a default setting of Stack Exchange, but not very known since it needs an employee to set it. — fedorqui 2 hours ago

Also @NicolasChabanovsky maybe this room should be "related" to "The Stack Exchange Network" rather than Meta Stack Exchange, so it has generic SE branding rather than Meta-specific branding.

10:05 AM
How can I help you with it?

@NicolasChabanovsky This has the exact same look as rooms over on the Chat.MSE server.

@NicolasChabanovsky oh yes, I was just talking about this initiative we had (well, g3rv4 gladly had), so it can be helpful in the other international sites

It's confusing.

@NicolasChabanovsky not sure if this clarifies my comment

@fedorqui Get it! Could you please add it to the list! As soon as we compile the list with several ideas we will start to add different things to different sites (if the community thinks it's needed of course).
@gparyani Let me see what can I do with it.
room parent site changed to default (no parent site)

Looks better now (after a refresh)

Let's try this way, if it looks better :)

@NicolasChabanovsky yes! In fact, I see gbianchi already did in meta.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/60641

@fedorqui Nice!

@Grundy только первое время, пока не уйдут.

10:25 AM
@NicolasChabanovsky so I am removing my comment

@Suvitruf Please, be more optimistic! :)
@fedorqui Sure!

10:47 AM
@NicolasChabanovsky make bets?

11:01 AM
@Grundy 10$ on red, please.

@Suvitruf И ваши деньги уходят в доход @Grundy'no

@Grundy я бы сейчас запостил сюда мемное видео с хозяином казино, но меня забанят.

Q: Request for chat bot to restore "translate" functionality in chat

gparyaniA while ago, SE briefly introduced a built-in feature where a user can type: translate: [words in any language] ...and the Feeds user would respond with an English translation of whatever was typed. This feature was curtailed, however, when some users began abusing the feature by immediately ...

Should we enable SmokeDetector for posts on non-English sites here?
(@Suvitruf)

@gparyani We have SmokeDetector in our SOru main chat room.

@NicolasChabanovsky But for other international sites too

@gparyani I think we can ask others to add it to their chat rooms because most of us cannot act on those sites.
What do you think?

12:47 PM
@NicolasChabanovsky Posts on localized sites are reported in Charcoal HQ, but we do get stifled quite a lot because we can't read the language in question. One of our main points is to nuke not-so-blatant spam. So it'd be great to have SmokeDetector for international sites. But since SmokeDetector messages are always in English, it may not be a good idea to have it on site-specific rooms.

@gparyani I completely agree that it's a good idea to use SmokeDetector on international sites! We do use it on SOru. Please add it to the list if you know that some of our sites does not have it.

@NicolasChabanovsky We already use it, but right now the places where it posts on all international sites except SOru (I believe) is toward English speakers only. The second part, after getting Smokey in the rooms, is for the community that writes the bot to translate messages.

@gparyani Get it. You mean that it would be cool to have bot's message to be translated, right?

@NicolasChabanovsky Yeah.

@gparyani Personally, I do not know how to make it done. The idea is great! :)

12:56 PM
@NicolasChabanovsky SmokeDetector is written by the community, not by SE. That's what I meant by "getting the community that writes it".

@gparyani Well, we can add the idea to the list of initiatives. At least to keep track it.

@NicolasChabanovsky I filed github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/issues/2488 on their issue tracker.

Thank you!

@HenryWHHackv2.1.2 I believe the answer is the same. Localization bugs keep getting reported, and the SE team has higher priorities. Sure, they don't need to hire a new CM for every language.

Thank You! (Truly, I don't know if that is on topic for this I am just trying to blend in.)
@gparyani Makes sense.
Not just CMs for every language but Devs as well.

I posted a concise explanation as to why they're no longer accepting such sites, but it was heavily downvoted and I was forced to delete it.

Oh yeah, I was planning on posting a terminal joke as my first message in this room well here... sudo su.

Can't believe I earned that badge in 2004.
Maybe it was just a Google Translate error. (It happens.)

11:10 PM
@HenryWHHackv2.1.2 That is why I don't trust machine translations.
@NicolasChabanovsky The admins of SmokeDetector decided to implement it in this room. They're saying that if any of the sites want it in their rooms, they'll have to request it themselves.
