@BESW so trappings in Save Game work such that every skill has 2 actions, and you can pay a stunt to unlock another action for it

Yup.

also dang, last session i was thinking of giving the brigadier a Moustache of Command stunt, but it only came up once
i am too fond of leaving that last stunt slot ready for emergency needs

Heh.

mostly about giving orders forcefully or something
or inspiring action on the field

> In a puff of smoke: Instead of moving one zone for free on my turn, I can move to any zone in the scene regardless of obstacles. Whenever I do, both the zone I left and the zone I enter gain the boost Smoke-filled and their free invokes are given to the GM.
The balance on that is a bit harsh, but I like the concept.

> Draining Spell: When I make a roll to use magic, I can take a consequence instead of rolling the dice. If I do, I use the consequence's value in place of the dice's result.
I think I've found my Blood Mage holy grail.

> In a puff of smoke: Instead of moving one zone for free on my turn, I can move to any zone in the scene regardless of obstacles. Whenever I do, both the zone I left and the zone I enter gain the boost Smoke-filled: the free invoke on one zone is mine (my choice), and the other goes to the GM.
I changed the last bit a little.

That could work!

That sounds a little like Nightcrawler, if there were a lot more smoke involved.

Pretty much.
Any "Vanish/Appear in a puff of smoke!" guy, turned up to 11.

4:46 AM
@BESW That's kinda awsum.
Combos well with something able to deal with consequences, like Toughness, though otherwise I might not want to use it...

@doppelgreener I might make it double the consequence's value... not sure.

@BESW a severe for 12?

Aye.

that'd screw someone over, but you're probably going to want to do that if you're taking a severe for it

Exactly. It screws someone over.... and then you've got a severe consequence riding your butt for the whole adventure.

5:00 AM
yup :)

> We’ll be using Atomic Robo RPG rules, but with the addition of a Magic mode. It’s identical to the Science mode, except it grants access to all the “Magic” skills rather than all the “Science” skills. See below.
Magic: the Magic mode has a virtually unlimited number of associated skills, or at the very least way too many to list here. When you write the Magic mode on your character sheet and give it a rating, all of your Magic skills—that includes all fields of magic—have that same rating by default. You can improve any of these Magic skills just like you’d improve any other skill in any o
Thoughts? It's basically copypasta from ARRPG's Science blocks.

5:20 AM
@Magician My gaming group is hacking ARRPG for a Robo/Hellboy style mashup, and I'd appreciate thoughts on whether my straightforward Science-to-Magic skill conversion is appropriate/sufficient (above, or at the end of the linked document).

@BESW can I use Create Advantage to give someone the aspect On Fire?

I've started reading ARRPG, but only just. How does it work with various Science (Magic) skills? From this text, it reads that by having Magic +2 you have all magic skills at +2.

I figure you probably can.
@Magician Yup!
Then you can upgrade them individually with skill points, and modify them individually with stunts.

Right, but if you want to further train up a skill, you advance it individually?
Ah-ha.
I see no reason this wouldn't work with magic.
I'm loving the idea of custom modes, btw. The standard ones left me cold (not because they're bad, just... purposefully bland). But saying you are Ape +3 while also Scientist +2 is powerful.

Yes!

5:30 AM
I absolutely love that Jenkins has a Jenkins mode.

I'm particularly impressed by the elegance of the mode/aspect/megastunt interaction.

And while I haven't quite gotten to mega-stunts yet, from what you've described they sound great, much better than just pumping bonuses into a skill.
Also, something to build upon for the Projekt.

Aspects rise out of modes, and megastunts require both mode and aspect to justify them.
@Magician Speaking of which, I've looked over Save Game and it's interesting and useful but definitely not a major overlap with our design goals.

Good to know!

I'm particularly interested in how they're handling "lives" though.
It's designed to create continuity, while we're interested in messing with continuity.
Some time I'm going to run a one-shot of Save Game to see how it plays out.

5:36 AM
I'd be up for that :)

We probably should do some gaming together at some point, to help synchronise ourselves.

Despite vast geographical differences, we appear to have only 1 hour of time difference, so it should be easy enough.

And that hour is only because you have DST and I don't.

It might be cool --albeit potentially difficult-- if we could each join a session or two of the other's games. Help get a sense for the environment we come from.
This would, of course, require everyone in the groups being comfortable with that. Which might not happen.

5:52 AM
It'd also entail various technical difficulties. Not opposed to it in general, but would have to be a one-off.

My end would probably be game and technically able; Hobbs and one of his IRL friends join us every week via Skype for the past few months.
(We've also used Hangouts.)

It works pretty well.

We roll on the honour system and I keep a stack of Fate points representing Hobbs and his friends' Fate points, and they also keep their own stack, so we can add and subtract parallel.
And we use a Drive document to share and modify scene aspects and other such.

Our webcams have this really neat effect: we can pick up a fate point from our table, in the spot clearly visible to BESW, hold it up, and put it into the pile we have further in front of us - down and out of shot of the camera.
Then BESW picks up a fate point off the table and puts it back in the common pile.
It carries a little illusion of handing it to him. xD

6:08 AM
@doppelgreener One of my dreams is to have a rec room with a big white wall and a big table, with a swing-mounted projector on the ceiling that can point at the wall or down at the table.

For telepresence!

Everything from Skype and movies on the wall, to projecting maps on the table...
There are a number of graphic design uses for the setup, too.

@BESW there is an apartment block nearby that has a roof courtyard with a projector and a big wall for people to sit in front of
I'll sometimes see it in use to watch a sports game whilst I'm walking home, but it'd be great for movies too

Cool.

..... might not work so well on Guam though come to think of it

6:21 AM
Also: playing super-cinematic video games.

yes 8D

@doppelgreener Outdoor movies are occasionally shown in one of the parks, but it's not a permanent installation.

6:50 AM
@BESW Hmm, maybe I should invest in Atomic Robo. Sounds like it could be pretty useful in my situation.

It's certainly been useful for me in all my Fate games and designs.
It even reminded me of Marvelous Initiative.

@BESW [waaaave]

@BESW Ahh, I see. Then it sounds useful indeed. In my case I'm looking at it from the standpoint of wanting to construct custom skills for my game but having no experience with it. The answers to my question were both helpful, but more research never hurts.
I also haven't had the chance to get my players back in a planning session again, so there's only so much I can do. Getting more used to the mechanics is one of those things. :P

7:05 AM
@Pixie After we finished our Doctor Who adventure last night we did a little brainstorming for the next campaign, and came up with this.

1 hour later…
8:13 AM
@BESW Ooh, very nice. I think you mentioned Atomic Robo before when I brought up secret society type settings.
Maybe I should shift my originally 6d6-intended conspiracy/secret society setting over to Fate and grab ARRPG for further ideas. The things I actually nailed down about the setting were... vague, so putting them on the table for further input would probably help. xD
In fact, I just went looking through my notes, and this appears to be all I ever wrote down... docs.google.com/document/d/…
I had more in my head at some point. I'm bad about thinking on a topic for a while, not keeping notes, then wondering later, "Wait, that thing. What was I doing with that?"

8:38 AM
@Pixie Been there, forgotten that.
