A: Who is the goddess depicted as "Bharat Mata" & why is she having Indian tricolor flag?

iammilindThe Bharat mata is goddess Durga. But in general she is an amalgamation of various goddesses. Bharat Matā (Hindi, from Sanskrit Bhāratāmbā भारताम्बा; अम्बा ambā means 'mother') is the national personification of India as a mother goddess. She is an amalgam of all the goddesses of Indian cultu...

Please explain what you mean by nationalism when you say that nationalism is part of dharma?

@SudarshanaSuri, probably you are equating "Dharma = Religion". However, in general context, Dharma means "do-able / righteousness / tendency". Refer What is the difference between dharma and religion? for more details. Now nationalism is also part of Dharma, because one becomes loyal or obedient to the land one belongs to. For example, the people in army express their nationalism by having readiness to be martyred. Other classes people show it in other ways. Refer Martyr concept in Hinduism

I was searching a lot on the Internet for this information, Thanks for the answering @iammilind

I asked a very simple definitional question - what is your definition of nationalism when you say "nationalism is part of dharma". And to clear your confusion: I'm not equating dharma to religion.

Welcome @UdhavSarvaiya. Actually you should have got the first link itself from Wikipedia. :-)
Sorry if my above comment confuses you @SudarshanaSuri. In simpler words: Everyone citizen should have "nationalism" as their natural tendency, because it's right thing to do. Like how a person has "Pati/Patni dharma", "Putra Dharma", "Kutumb Dharma", similarly one should have - Nationalism, which is "NAgarika Dharma". Hope that clears, why I related these 2 terms.

Can you give reference to mention of "NAgarika Dharma" in any Hindu scriptures?
FYI the link you've posted on the earlier comment about difference between dharma and religion is not adequate - perhaps you can tell me which specific answer you are appealing to from that question.
I think you are missing the point. I'm interested to know scriptural references that will back up your answer. It is lacking at this point. To be clear, you introduced the term "NAgarika Dharma" to explain why nationalism (as even a concept) is part of Hinduism and consequently reserves a place of mention in your answer. I suggest the easier solution is to remove the sentence: "This is a rare combination of religion and nationalism (a part of Dharma)" because you've not provided any reasonable evidence that nationalism is a part of Dharma.

@UdayKrishna, whether "Bharat maata" is goddess to the whole country is subjected to faith. Its individual choice whether to revere her or not. For now, my answer is just concentrating the main question on who is the goddess depicted as "Bharat mata" and her relation with the flag.

The Bharat mata is goddess Durga. Can you give scripture support for this?

@AnkitSharma, No, I can't. It's a historic and cultural figure, hence cannot be found in traditional scriptures. Other such figures are "Shrinatji", "Saibaba", "Swami Narayan", "Ramakrishna Paramahamsa" -- which are also not found in scriptures.

@iammilind -> this

@iammilind then how can you say she is Durga?
And why you bringing nationalism agenda in this answer??
