7:19 AM
@Zoe you changed the avatar from dark pink to light pink?

Zoe
8:03 AM
@ShadowThePrincessWizard no, it's still the same as earlier

Really?? Weird, was sure yesterday it was darker pink.

Zoe
Nope

The checker shadow illusion is an optical illusion published by Edward H. Adelson, Professor of Vision Science at MIT in 1995. == Description == The image depicts a checkerboard with light and dark squares, partly shadowed by another object. The optical illusion is that the area labeled A appears to be a darker color than the area labeled B. However, within the context of the two-dimensional image, they are of identical brightness, i.e., they would be printed with identical mixtures of ink, or displayed on a screen with pixels of identical colour. == Verification == That the two squares are the...
SciFi has a darker background than most of the other sites in the network.
as a result, @Zoe avatar here appears to be lighter.

@Derpy ohhh
Smart

Zoe
9:02 AM
@Derpy I didn't know there was a name for it o.o

@Zoe that is just one famous example of the illusion
seems related to
Color constancy is an example of subjective constancy and a feature of the human color perception system which ensures that the perceived color of objects remains relatively constant under varying illumination conditions. A green apple for instance looks green to us at midday, when the main illumination is white sunlight, and also at sunset, when the main illumination is red. This helps us identify objects. == Color vision == Color vision is how we perceive the objective color, which people, animals and machines are able to distinguish objects based on the different wavelengths of light reflected...
but I don't know if there is a specific term for it.

A contrast effect is the enhancement or diminishment, relative to normal, of perception, cognition or related performance as a result of successive (immediately previous) or simultaneous exposure to a stimulus of lesser or greater value in the same dimension. (Here, normal perception, cognition or performance is that which would be obtained in the absence of the comparison stimulus—i.e., one based on all previous experience.) Perception example: A neutral gray target will appear lighter or darker than it does in isolation when immediately preceded by, or simultaneously compared to, respectively...
^ @Zoe should be this.

Zoe
9:17 AM
Yep

9:40 AM
@Zoe The two characters you saw in the picture that made you go "dawwwww" are Nanachi (on the right) and Mitty (on the left). Originally.... two normal kids. Then, they were uses as guinea pigs in an experiment - think Maze Runners, but worse.
The "lucky" one, Nanachi, was turned in that rabbit like creature on the right.
Mitty... lost everything and was turned into that mangled form you can see on the left.

10:11 AM
oh, and btw, @Shadow.
If you try with some decent online translator / dictionary.... you will see that "candida" actually means something close to "pure"

@Derpy so, Oxford isn't decent enough? lexico.com/en/definition/candida :)
> feminine of Latin candidus ‘white’.
You mean this? ^

@ShadowThePrincessWizard definition of "candida" in ENGLISH....

@Derpy that's what I linked to

that was Italian, you even checked with the bot :P
so, you should search what "candida" means in Italian, not in English.

Names are cross language ;)

10:16 AM
and based on the Latin origin it is something like "pale / white / pure"

10:39 AM
and another one.

Q: Is the re-licensing situation perceived as much less important than Monica's defamation lawsuit?

GhostCat says Reinstate MonicaWhen one compares the two (currently) relevant GoFundMe pages Defend Monica from Defamation by Stack Overflow and Lawsuit against Stack Exchange relicensing it is obvious that the first one attracts donations on a whole different scale. I am wondering: is that difference a result of visibilit...

on an unrelated notice, been reading the ToS. Seems that whoever posted that notice about license was right.
Apparently there is a passage that could be read as if SE has a secondary license to the posted content, independent from the creative common one.
> From the TOS:
You agree that any and all content, including without limitation any and all text, graphics, logos, tools, photographs, images, illustrations, software or source code, audio and video, animations, and product feedback (collectively, “Content”) that you provide to the public Network (collectively, “Subscriber Content”), is perpetually and irrevocably licensed to Stack Overflow on a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive basis pursuant to Creative Commons licensing terms (CC-BY-SA), and you grant Stack Overflow the perpetual and irrevocable right and license to access, use, pr
if this actually means that the company could use the content even if the creative license was found to be invalid/revoked due to irregularities (as suggested by some users claim around the recent license version upgrade) I don't know
But if it does, it would indeed feel very convenient right now.
Also, since we were talking about Winter Bash before....
@Shadow @Zoe - last year site is still online, and so are the related api. Apparently, there has been no work related to WB yet.

11:28 AM
@Derpy heh. So likely they'll just ignore it, this year. Fine with me...

@ShadowThePrincessWizard at the very least, they didn't even move the old site to the archive.

12:22 PM
so... 4 days left now.

yesterday, by Zoe
Which is why I'm going to leave on Friday. Trying to get close to a "natural" end anyway

Zoe
12:40 PM
@Derpy gee, abandoned APIs. Where has that happened before?

@Zoe never, pretty sure of that.
They always took down the previous site and API couple of months at least before new winterbash should start.

usually the hats api and the old site are left hanging around until one/two months before the new event.
This year... they took part of the api down immediately (the one that probably ran on the main servers) - you can no longer change hats because the related endpoints all give 404 error now.
but as usual the main api - the one that gives you the hat data is still around (that api is used by the Winter Bash site too, so they always keep that running until the site is taken down).
That said, I would have expected that by now the old site would have been archived.

1:55 PM
@ShadowThePrincessWizard chat, area51, all 4 apps (counting iOS/Android as two), all the mod tools, meta (as a system)...

1 hour later…
3:09 PM
so... I was just randomly thinking....
In a way, misgendering is like portraying someone as something they don't identify as, right?

Zoe
@Derpy Basically

and so, it is like a form of misrepresenting someone, which I assume the CoC would define as equally bad....

Zoe
3:25 PM
huh?

nope, I was just saying that probably the CoC also says that I shouldn't go around spreading false rumors about other users because that too is misrepresenting them.

Zoe
oh

@Zoe oh, thought you were talking only about WB. ;)

Zoe
Nope.
It's all connected in the end

World is circular, sure.

Zoe
3:35 PM
no, it's clearly a triangle and America doesn't exist

lol
reporting @Zoe for CoC violation by misrepresenting the world
:P

Zoe
suing :P

meh
I can sew parts of you too, but it won't serve any real purpose..... :P

Zoe
:P

2 hours later…
6:08 PM
@Derpy "Darker"? It's black. ... Oh wait, it's not. It's some stupid distracting background composited from two overlayed images for some reason. And the chat lines don't have an opaque background, which made the chat hard to read. So I nuked all that client side, and now I have a nice plain black background.
@Derpy No, it doesn't sound like that to me. It sounds like they explain to you what the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license already allows them to do, to cover their asses in case someone reads the TOS but is lazy to read the license linked.
^ This is not legal advice, ask a lawyer in case of doubt.
So I like particular that change in their TOS. This way people won't be able to claim that they posted something without knowing what the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license means and want to go back with it.
@Derpy Sure, why would they remove last year's site?
@ShadowThePrincessWizard Ok, I see.
