12:53 AM
thesecretmaster has unfrozen this room.

@Undo Finally got an invite to rate some comments -- "This dataset will be made available upon request, with account IDs replaced with randomized rater IDs"

@thesecretmaster Same, and noticed the same thing. I hope it means what it says

Well...
They're breaking the license, although I think we already knew that.

Pro tip: The comment IDs are embedded in the page. Trivial to get them and use the /posts/comments to find on the site

Yep, I think we already had this conversation :P

1:03 AM
Which probably isn't useful to any non-mod type people, and definitely doesn't satisfy license, but I like it
How are the comments for you?
I'm getting nice happy ones

I haven't started yet -- just started poking at CO again

Not sure if this is a representative sample of the whole site or if they're deliberately giving different batches of comments to different groups

You could find out, if you've got a sock. But that'd be against their rules and skew their data, so prolly don't do that.
Actually, I've got a 504 time out error
So I couldn't start if I tried

actually, given how rudimentary the sign in system is, I bet it's not a different-groups thing

Could be different groups get different urls
Same app running of different ... erm ... glitch containers?

1:07 AM
@thesecretmaster fancy-brontosaurus?
which isn't loading for me either :(

You're not supposed to share that, but yep
Are you getting in through the one that was shared earlier?

in TL?

Would have to dig it up

I wrote it down somewhere...

1:09 AM
I'm betting Glitch is having a bad day
anyway, I'm gonna actually handle real comment flags
slightly more useful
Super excited about getting that data

Yeah, hopefully it's be interesting and useful
Oh wait
Maybe not
They haven't stated if they're going to release comment/post ids

It sounds like we're going to get comment texts, at least.

Rater id wouldn't break license anyways

> We will emphasize the sensitive nature of this data and ask requesters to respect Stack Overflow users’ privacy by not publishing individual comment texts.
while slightly irritating, it's trivial to map texts to comment IDs

Not if they're deleted
Which, ideally, all the bad ones will be.
So, if userA was responsible for 70% of bad comments, we'd have no idea.

1:13 AM
If one is slightly lucky on the timeline, it'll be in a datadump

It'd be in one of the data dumps
But that's a pain unless it's the most recent
Because the dumps are massive and the downloads are super slow (server side limit)

Torrents
Bet it'd be in the most recent, though

Where can one get a torrent?

Usually Internet Archive has them

I only saw the archive.org download link

1:15 AM
sometimes you want to ask someone to start seeding it
Comments is 'only' 3.7G anyway
