A: Canon printer problem on Ubuntu 18.04

pdcfor any driver, there are at least 2 steps: 1) install the drivers and 2) register the printer with lpadmin (print spooler) this needs the CAPT driver; as you know, but there are three steps: please copy the commands below; paste into the terminal; hit the ENTER key to action .. 1) install the...

When I do the second step, I get this error message --- lpadmin: Unknown argument "–E"

pdc
sorry; Ubuntu likes the full path; please see above

I did whatever you told me but last part is not happening. I am not getting an offer to do a test print. Rather nothing is happening after third step. Also I got a message on top saying "Additional Printer Drivers Required".

pdc
Actually, the CAPT install may not prompt a test print offer; but if you go to LibreOffice; and try to print some text from there; do you see the LBP2900 listed as a possible printer? Can you print to it? (You may have two icons for the LBP2900; one may say LBP2900/LBP3050/LBP3100 or something .. ignore that one)

I tried to print from "Text Editor" and there I can see two printers. I used both of them, and no one is working.

what does lpinfo -v give in a terminal please: if you add the answer to your top question; then it is easy to see; thanks

Done! You can check the question now.

pdc
can you now do lsusb in a terminal and paste back what you get please; also if you open the dev/ folder; and turn on the LBP, can you see a folder appear called usb and inside what do you see please?

Posted information about lsusb. Now what do you mean by turn on the LBP? (sorry, new to linux)
When I open Dev folder, I can see USB folder, inside it I can see two files. One is "hiddev0" and other is "lp1".

pdc
please see answer in the answer section above:

sudo /usr/sbin/ccpdadmin -p LBP2900 -o /dev/usb/hiddev0 This didn't work.
Which icon you are asking me to delete from printers folder? Where the printers folder is located?

if you enter printers in the search area; and find it from there; I suggested that if an icon for the LBP 2900 didn't work, you delete it; please try the lp1 command and make sure you do the "ccpd start' command after that

When I use this - sudo /usr/sbin/ccpdadmin -p LBP2900 -o /dev/usb/lp1.................................I see this - LBP2900 can't find in CUPS Spooler Entry!!

pdc
I have added B to the 2900 to make it 2900B can you try the commands again with that; I can only assume the mouse is hiddev0 and the printer; if turned on and reading to go; is lp1

LBP2900B can't find in CUPS Spooler Entry!! Same problem.

pdc
I am running out of suggestions; this is CUPS localhost:631/admin from your web browser; paste this address or just click on it; look in FIND NEW PRINTERS: does CUPS find your 2900? It seems to show in lsusb but it didn't seem to me to show in lpinfo -v

When I click on FIND NEW PRINTERS, I see No printers found.

if you click on MANAGE PRINTERS, do you see the LBP listed there please? If there is, please delete any icons for the 2900; and re-run the 2 register commands and restart ccpd

Yes, there are two printers listed but when I tr to delete it, I see this message. Unauthorized Enter your username and password or the root username and password to access this page. If you are using Kerberos authentication, make sure you have a valid Kerberos ticket.

pdc
then find your PRINTERS folder; and do it from there

Ya, I did it. Same result.........can't find in CUPS Spooler Entry!!

pdc
I am out of ideas

no prob. thanks anyways.
