Q: IETF Recommendations for preparation for PQC- clarify in what way they are referring to bits

elsaIn the IETF mtg in 2017, in the recommended actions, are they saying leave enough flexibility in terms of bit usage for key sizes to throw in/switch out anything NIST picks out, or sufficient key sizes as in don't just focus on NIST level 1, 128-bit encryption? Obviously, increasing NIST levels ...

Q: What state does a qbit look like before it collapses

elsaWhich is the correct depiction of a qbit state showing the possibilities before it collapses? Is it like: MODEL 1: 1000 0100 0010 0001 MODEL 2: 1000 0100 0010 0001 0111 1011 1101 1110 MODEL 3: 0000 0000 0000 0000 1000 1000 1000 1000 1100 1100 1100 1100 1110 1110 1110 1110 1111 1...

Q: What Are The Basics Needed To Learn Quantum Computing?

Jchu4I was very inspired by Michio Kaku's explanation on the possibilities of quantum computing & also listening to Talia Gershon's talk on it. As I come from a business & analytics background, what materials can I begin exploring to prepare to learn more about the field of quantum computing? Eg. Wh...

@glS I guess there will be another election... :P

@SanchayanDutta guess so.. it is a pity though. I hope you'll still be around like before anyway

@glS Yep, I'll stay around. On the brighter side, this at least partially solves the problem of not having enough users to cast non-binding close votes. When I was a mod, I had to almost always use the hammer single-handedly. Now we can focus more on community-led moderation.

Anyway, there's not too much that I'm missing apart from the ability to delete/move comments, delete low-quality/spam answers; Mith and heather than handle that. :)

glS
@SanchayanDutta about that, I honestly haven't even seen any entry in the VTC queue lately.

Anonymous
@glS Indeed...probably because I was using my hammer too much (so questions would never even enter the queue before getting closed). :P

Now we won't have that problem!

I do also wonder about the voting thing though. I'm not sure why many people don't vote a lot. Maybe they are not very versed with the SE system and think the upvoting should only be done for excellent posts?

@glS I guess it takes some time to get a sufficient number of users invested in the site. Most of the new question-askers are simply here to get a solution to their problem; they do not care about solutions to others' problems. There's another category of users who are looking to write some good answers to only the questions they find interesting or get some quick rep...so they do not care about the uninteresting questions/answers. There's a related meta answer:

A: Why don't you vote?

CasaMichI hate to admit my ignorance, but I didn't vote much because I didn't realize the importance of voting. I sometimes visit the site, and if I see a question without answers, and if I can give a possibly useful answer, then I simply give it. When I saw answered questions that intrigued me, I read t...

That said, I do think we'll eventually get there. The quality of our Q&As is in general pretty good (so far).

glS
@SanchayanDutta yea hopefully it will be fine.

@SanchayanDutta I'm not sure what to say to be honest - I definitely wasn't expecting this. We had different styles of moderation, but I think that's a good thing really. In any case, yes, please do continue to use the site! And don't forget that you can still flag comments and other problematic things ;)
@glS At the minute there are two mods and there'll be another mod election to elect at least one more mod (the exact number is a discussion I've yet to have with Heather). I'm intending to stay on as mod - I've been assuming that Heather is as well but that's up to her. Essentially, we need at least 3 mods
