It does invite the question about who their target audience might be. Presumably an ad campaign's optimized their presentation to maximize the desired effect on the ensemble of observers.
Apple's ads always look stupid to me, but they're still raking in the cash.

@Nat the issue of "fundamental randomness" is very deep & related to the question of completeness of QM debated by einstein (EPR1935) / bohr which later translated into bell nonlocality. the copenhagen interpretation is basically that there is "no deeper reality" and that QM randomness is not due to imprecision in measurement etc... there is some new research that seems to impinge on the question. eg weak measurement, "reality of wavefn," etc
@Discretelizard clearly work in progress™
@Nat my feeling is that the widespread bias against "mere philosophizing" wrt QM is misplaced and that if QM is like an iceberg then philosophy is like the hidden 9/10ths...

Hi, everybody.

@DanielSank Hello

What's up?

10:45 AM
@Blue Why don't you add a book recommendation question? It could help lots of beginners on this site

Anonymous
@PrathyushPoduval You could add it!

Anonymous
But I'm not sure how the community would look at it

Well, Idk what to ask :P i don't have plans of entering the field yet

Anonymous
We still haven't come to any consensus about how to handle resource-recommendation questions

@Blue Doesn't matter it'd be a pretty useful thing. The ones on PSE have been of great help

And I'm afraid of pissing of the people here

if you don't piss anybody off, then youre not doing it right lol
No matter what, these questions will pop up pretty soon. Better make a central question to add it all

Anonymous
Let's see. I'll talk about that with the people here

yeah cool

@heather Consider this: Which questions have been asked so many times, they need a list of how to close them now? (just an example) This community is developing a strong propensity for rule making, anticipating problems before they occur in actual practice. This site is three days old — this can make a community unapproachable fast. Avid participation is great, but a disproportionate amount of legislating hypothetical problems is one of those red flags we look for, particularly when folks down-vote and reject the hard-earned lessons learned by every other site on the network. — Robert Cartaino ♦ yesterday

Yeah that makes sense

@PrathyushPoduval QC is interesting though. I like it because it's so interdisciplinary. You have people from all over math, physics, computer science and engineering

Anonymous
Especially the information theory aspects of it

@Blue Yeah it is, but for starters I'm doing a lot of stuff too nowadays. Then I don't know how to start QC :-{)

Anonymous
You have a lot of time

Anonymous
Go slow :)

yeah, lots of time.... if i go too slow i'll get bored :P
going fast is a problem too, i'll end up skipping some important stuff or another

Just out of curiosity, if the site gets out of beta will some old quantum computing questions from physics.stackexchange be migrated here?

2:35 PM
@Kiro the general rule is that you don't migrate questions to another site if they are on topic where they are. There are exceptions, but that's the usual rule.
If they have had no answers etc then it's an easy decision to move them

@Blue Could you explain your retagging here? (I'm not stalking you :P I just happened to be reading the question)

Okay, it's official: I'm procrastinating too much.

Q: Tutorial: How to use TeX/MathJax?

Nat$\TeX$ is a markup language that allows us to insert content like equations and tables. It is enabled on StackExchange sites like Quantum Computing through an addin called MathJax. To use it, we put $'s around things to be rendered. For example, $x$ renders as $x$. While $x$ renders in-line, ...

Originally I just wanted to draw a hat, since they took away the Christmas hats. But then I figured, hey, why not a logo? Bleh. xD
Actually, is the quasi-logo in poor taste? Gonna reverse it.

Hey @Mithrandir24601 Really sorry. I was editing this question which had a "full-scale-quantum-computer" tag and meant to put the comment there.

@Blue I guessed it might be something like that when I saw that edit :P

Thanks for your answer to the Fourier sampling question though

Anonymous
It was helpful

@Nat No idea whether it's in good taste or not, but it's a fairly impressive feat of Texing
:D

@Mithrandir24601 I was browsing from the mobile site. The UI is confusing

Anyway, I'm feeling a bit stupid now XD

@Blue ah, yeah.. I know...
@Blue Why? It was just a mistake

Anonymous
Nevermind. I should probably go to sleep now. See you. :)

@Blue Night!
