PSA: The past couple of days, I've noticed an increased flux in homework questions showing little to no effort, and/or people asking us to check their work on elementary problems. As a reminder, when you see something like that, the best thing to do is flag it (or vote to close) as too localized. You can also leave a helpful comment, downvote, and/or edit to make sure the tag and any other appropriate tags are on the question.

For the physicists and other science geeks here: DIY Gamma-Ray Probe.

@CrazyBuddy it seems to be a race condition with the "improve" option of suggested edits. I'll look into it.

Yess.... Please :-)

Woah... Woah... Woah... - These physicists are always arguing..!
I'm happy that I didn't enter into TP, ST or PP fields :-)
Else, I'd also be involved in the fight :P

@CrazyBuddy I was surprised the "war" :)
Never see this in real life.
Those theoretical physicists are really defend their own theory to dead like their baby XD
I was thinking that this senerio only exists in The Big Bang Theory for comedic effects

I'm quite lucky, that I got the ticket (as audience) :P
to watch these situations...

Recently I realized that there is another big area of research next to GRM and QM... non-equilibrium Thermodynamics. - e.g. the ACTUAL dynamics of thermodynamics.
Now I wonder what other physical areas are strongly researched right now
Based on what I could find about non-equilibrium Thermodynamics, it's either even more advanced or way less close to "being done" than the other two.

@DavidZaslavsky DIY after you have bought a PMT and it a base for the PMT and a scintilator and coupled them and provided both the HV supply and the readout electronics. IOW: a DIY enclosure assuming you already have the working guts.
Not that this is a bad thing: it looks like quite a nice and inexpensive enclosure (though only suitable for gammas), it's just that it just assumes all the hard and expensive parts are already done.

@dmckee I hate it when there are DIY youtube videos which require some "special ingredient" . Which is why nowadays I just skim through em if someone sends one :s

@dmckee I have flagged a comment here physics.stackexchange.com/questions/51201/… to a comment by Lubos . Very very inappropriate.

@annav you know, the whole point of flagging is so that you don't have to ping anybody about it in chat ;-)

I know, except I thought a fast response might avoid a food fight

That's fair

you all must be busy enough

Personally, I usually check the flag queue and my inbox at roughly the same, so a flag will get my attention just as fast as a ping

I will keep it in mind if there is a next time
ok , see you around then

6:33 PM
see you later
