Ah well at least that makes me feel like it's a less silly question!
Good thing physics never uses confusing terminology :D

I mean, programming has this old adage that there are only three hard problems: Naming things and off-by-one errors
Physics and math just replace off-by-one errors by sign errors

Hi everyone! Can anyone tell how impulse= large change in momentum? I mean large force * very short time. For large change we need large force * large time interval ?

@cOnnectOrTR12 What do you mean? The definition of "impulse" is just force integrated over time (or force times time for constant forces). There's nothing inherently large or small about it.

@ACuriousMind when impulse acts is it meant for large change in momentum or there is nothing like that? If so why are we defining it like another quantity?

Impulse is just a name for the total change in momentum caused by a force acting over a specific time
it doesn't need to be large

@ACuriousMind ok. Thank you for helping.

@ACuriousMind by any chance, do you see a large drop in the number of new visits on the site in the past few days compared to before? I don't have access to analytics tools on physics and I'm wondering if there was some change in how they are counting this or it's something specific to qc.SE (where we're seeing a rather dramatic such drop, that is not however reflected into correspondingly large changes in overall number of visits or any other stat)

@glS huh, yes, I do, but the same drop is also in overall number of visits and total page views

glS
second one is new visits, first one together with visits and page views. There is some corresponding drop on the other, but definitely not so dramatic as in the new visits. If you're also seeing it it must be something to do with how they're counting them then

yes, it must be a change in the counting method, since other metrics that should be correlated if this was a real drop in traffic aren't down
