@Aaron Stevens, I don't see why you had to change "any" to "a", but anyway, would you mind re-opening this question now that it's a valid question and has a very good answer below? — user1271772 2 hours ago
I guess I give off the impression that I have enough power on this site to reopen questions whenever I want to.

@ZeroTheHero I will try

@JohnRennie Have you read Three Men in a Boat? Or PG Wodehouse’s Jeeves ?

@Knight no. To be honest I only read science fiction (and science textbooks).

@JohnRennie Okay. There is a very funny line, “George goes to sleep at a bank from 10 to 4 except on Saturdays when they make him out at 2”

@Knight a comment about how exciting it is working at a bank :-)

@JohnRennie Yeah :)

@AaronStevens The close/reopen voting system is very confusing to many new users that are used to forums where there are usually only unilateral powers to close and move threads.

@ACuriousMind I was about say this thanks and sorry!
@Knight sorry for my behavior, I got rude, though my intention was not that.

10:02 AM
@YuvrajSingh... It’s all right brother I’m not hurt.
@YuvrajSingh... By the way care for your self cold can turn into fever at any time

Just finished Recursion: A Novel. Holy smokes it's great.
@JohnRennie Damn, 185 books. I want to see your IQ. :D

@NovaliumCompany they are all scifi books. You don't need a huge IQ to read sci-fi books - rather the reverse I would have thought :-)

@JohnRennie I wish someday I can achieve something close to your intellect.
I don't know how you know everything about everything. You've read so much, studied so much...

@NovaliumCompany It's easy, just live to be 58 :-)

@JohnRennie :D

Seriously, when you've been interested in physics for half a century you can't help learning lots of stuff.
The trouble is that I know a little about lots of areas in physics, but there is no area in physics where I'm an expert.
Well, colloid science I suppose, but that's really physical chemistry.

I'll just keep exploring and following my curiosity.

That's the best way to do it. If you're curious about something then you'll naturally want to find out more about it. Conversely if you're not curious about something (and you don't have an exam on it) then just ignore it.

f*ck exams.

I wouldn't do that or they might just f*ck you :-)

I'll f*ck them back.
That dull system they call "education".

They'll win :-)

11:24 AM
I'll win them first.
Just, please don't get me started on this topic. I get fired up pretty easily.
I want to keep my monitor in it's full form.

OK, my lips are sealed.

I'mma go play some basketball with my cousin outside. Cya :)

Bye

Q: Can I present results to get some feedback?

Dimitris K.I have replicated the results of a few good books in nonlinear optics that I have found. Is it ok to present my 10-page results here in order to get some criticism? By reading the guidelines on what topics we should ask, I am borderline going to say yes. However I thought it would be more appropr...

@JohnRennie 185 book reviews in about a year and a half. Thanks for your service.

6:44 PM
Anybody got a suggestion for this?

7:23 PM
heya guys, I've never understood why it makes sense intuitively that the second time is shorter
(so just to be clear; I don't care about time dilatation (or lorentz contraction), and I can follow the mathematical derivation)
but as I was rereading these gedanken experiments, I realised I never understood on an intuitive level why the time measured from the ground observer was shorter, from a classical point of view that is
(so assuming $\Delta x=\Delta\bar x$ for the moment)
oh oops, I meant longer*
oh weps, never mind
wish I could delete this
it makes sense intuitively after all
