@Semiclassical I bought the book because it seemed interesting. I didn't get too far into it before returning it. I felt like it was an idea that did not need an entire book devoted to it, and I got bored.

I can't remember if some of you great people could help me remember who is was that would be great. Because I got the book.

Gosh, guys, stupid question time. If I have an uniform distribution in 1D centered around the origin, then the mean, of course, is zero: $(a+(-a))/2 = 0$ as should be.
Then if I shift it with $+b$, then the mean becomes $((a+b)+(-a+b))/2 = b$, again, nice
But the integral $\int_{-a+b}^{a+b} c*x dx$ should also give me the mean
And it gives $2abc$....
($c$ is like the constant that is uniform)
Why am I dumb? $\int x \rho (x) dx$ IS the mean, isnt it
 
@Ezze $2abc$ and $b$ are both correct expressions for the mean ;)

Its like... if I push a rod of steel by $b$ then the center of mass shifts by $b$... but my integral wont give me $b$ and I am going crazy

Site moderators and 25k users have access to site traffic statistics. In the moderator version there's a head disclaimer reading analytics data is intended for moderators only; please don't share the specifics of this data in public. On the other hand, much of this data is in principle publicly available from Stack Exchange Data Explorer. Does anyone know of good queries that reveal such information?

@Qmechanic seriously? there's no such banner that I can see in the 25k version
I would strongly contest the restriction on sharing that data (and have shared such data in the past where it has been useful)
what is the rationale, and what negative consequences would there be when shared?
 
@EmilioPisanty There is no rationale given, it's just a one-liner banner in the mod version of the analytics
 
Posts and Votes can definitely be reconstructed in full within SEDE. I don't know of any specific instances. It would take me a couple of hours to reconstruct them if required, though I'd like a good reason to spend that time ;-).
Traffic can almost certainly not be reconstructed.

@Akash.B When it "hits you", you (the matter of the part of you that is hit) exert a force on it because it can't just magically move through you, and so, by action = reaction, the same force is exerted back on you.

the hyperbolic disk model is more well-known
here are two tilings (of the euclidean plane mapped to a disk):

and compare it to the hyperbolic disk model
and the penrose diagram:
maybe the penrose diagram and the second euclidean tiling above are related by homeomorphism
that is, one could be continuously deformed into the other and vice versa
interesting how they're both conformal

Well the Penrose diagram is a change of coordinates and rescaling of Minkowski space
I assume the same is true of the Euclidian disk model, but on the other hand those are different geometries
 
@Ultradark FWIW, I have C code I wrote a couple of decades ago which does that mapping. I'm pretty sure it's a stereographic projection, and they're always conformal, but it's been a while since I've thought about this stuff. (I guess I could boot up my computer & look at the source code).
I've used it to make Circle Limit style images from some of Escher's Euclidean tessellations. The results look pretty similar to his genuine Circle Limit hyperbolic tessellations on the Poincaré disk, unless you know what to look for.
In the Poincaré disk, all (hyperbolic) straight lines become circular arcs that intersect the boundary circle at right angles (that includes diameters as arcs of zero curvature).
FWIW, you can see an example on an old friend's blog page. Unfortunately, it's now corrupted by a Photobucket watermark. But there are several other images on that page that I'm quite pleased with.
IIRC, I learned how to do that Euclidean disk stereographic projection from Penrose's The Emperor's New Mind
