@JohnRennie Actually, no. But last year when I appeared for the paper they had asked a question on relativistic Doppler effect which only required knowledge of the formula. A lot of people had protested since it was out of syllabus. But the council didn't retract the question (no idea why). Some people could solve it though because they somehow knew the formula.

But basically, imagine a chain standing upright. After it is released the rings hit the floor in sequence while remain upright after doing so. So the question asked how much force the floor experienced when a chain of length x (which must consists of many rings) strike the floor. And chat, stop eating my messages!

The lowest part (let call that ring 1) is already touch the floor. After the chain is released, ring 2,3,4 etc. hits the floor in sequence
