@BernardoMeurer I got a superclocked 1080
I need to use it :P

@0celo7 Then put all settings on ultra
and watch it sweat :P
War Thunder can be intense when too many planes get together

I can get graphics mods for Skyrim
I'll probably have to play MGS5 with Kevin, he loves that series

@Secret Is posting that really necessary?
These two messages of yours clog up almost my entire screen without having clicked on 'full text'.

what have i done

Well I just want to show how I intepret this as we are on the topic of poems and postmordenism. Ok... I will use a pastebin link next time
... >-V-O>

@0celo7 Wait, you could play F4 already, right? I'm not even sure there are all that many games that you couldn't have run at least at lowest settings.

@ACuriousMind I could play F4 but on really bad settings

How is GTA5 by the way? I haven't looked at it.

1:10 PM
I won't do a full play through but I just want to see it maxed out
@ACuriousMind did you play Far Cry 4?

Nope

@BalarkaSen pretty amazing although I never got into multiplayer

I consider FC3: Blood Dragon the pinnacle of the series ;P

I didn't play that one
FC3 was great

@0celo7 Gotcha. I have to get it...

1:12 PM
@0celo7 Meh, it took me 20 hours to play through it and I have no real desire to revisit it any time soon. Pretty good for while it lasted, but not really my idea of a great game

@ACuriousMind yeah, it was quick
Not really story driven

0celo, how's your minecraft computer going?, I cannot wait to meet you in minecraft

I thought it was great for the format
@Secret I'll have to buy minecraft

Well, Skyrim isn't "story driven" either but that one kept me playing for much longer!

@ACuriousMind the story is becoming the greatest warrior :)
@ACuriousMind I will now be able to run that morrowind graphics overhaul
The frame rate was super unstable on my old computer
"Old computer"

1:14 PM
gamers gotta game :P

what's the latest scifi game in town?

@Secret Mass effect
@ACuriousMind did you ever upgrade your 660?

Nope, still running it
Haven't yet had a game I wanted to play I couldn't run satisfactorily

how many computers do you have?

Why would I have more than one?

1:18 PM
John R has 12

@ACuriousMind I'll have two...

Well, I also have a laptop.

A laptop and a desktop. Pretty normal

does a smart phone count?

1:19 PM
I have 3 (2 desktops (the old one has not thrown away because it is still functional windows vista) and 1 laptop)

@Justwinbaby ...*you* asked the question.

@ACuriousMind Hi there :), don't mean to bother, if you get a chance, your input would be very valuable on this post: physics.stackexchange.com/questions/340982/… if not, don't worry about it.

What counts as a computer

Internet access...

Does this count

1:23 PM
can it get on the internet?

@user929304 I'm afraid I have no idea what people actually technically mean when they say "coherence is lost" in that context.

@0celo7 don't you count your iPad?
I sure do.

@Justwinbaby I don't believe so
apparently there's a GR fellow named Göbel
unfortunate name

Indeed.

"In 1967 Zeeman defined such a new topology — here called Zeeman-topology ℨ0"
What the hell is this symbol

BLACK-LETTER CAPITAL Z
apparently

Ze (З з; italics: З з) or zemlja is a letter of the Cyrillic script. It commonly represents the voiced alveolar fricative /z/, like the pronunciation of ⟨z⟩ in "zoo". Ze is romanized using the Latin letter ⟨z⟩. The shape of Ze is very similar to the Arabic numeral three ⟨3⟩ and the Cyrillic letter E ⟨Э⟩. == History and shape == Ze is derived from the Greek letter Zeta (Ζ ζ). In the Early Cyrillic alphabet its name was землꙗ (zemlja), meaning "earth". The shape of the letter originally looked similar to a Greek or Latin letter Z with a tail on the bottom (ꙁ). Though a majuscule form of this variant...
this also look similar

Why is the topology based on causal diamonds called the Alexandrov topology
It's a preorder topology
But $p < q$ isn't a preorder
$p \leq q$ is
Since $p < p$ is false

1:50 PM
@Justwinbaby no

Also how to prove that the empty set is part of the Alexandrov topology
For the timelike cylinder, $I^+(p) = I^-(p) = M$ for all $p$
Their intersections and union are all $M$
"We are using a convention that the union of empty collection of sets is the empty set."
Ah nvm

Why are we having so many cyberwars recently?

@Secret globalists

Trumpists

Why would you blame Trump supporters?

1:56 PM
A few weeks ago, if I recall, there are already a couple of linux and unix attacking malware that tries to make things more vulnerable for future attacks

He's a Twitter phenom

@Justwinbaby Greatest president of all time

@Justwinbaby ho, ho, ho :-)

@0celo7 perhaps, time will tell
@JohnRennie :-)

@Justwinbaby good to see the schoolboy jokes we told fifty years ago are still in circulation :-)

2:11 PM
Quality never grows old.
@JohnRennie would you be interested in this?

@Justwinbaby I only ever read textbooks and science fiction, and the latter is covered by the SciFi Stack Exchange. I would have little to contribute to the Literature Stack Exchange.

Q: The acceleration of a particle in uniform electro-magnetic field

Katy23A particle of charge $q$ and mass $m_0$ is subject to the action of a uniform electro-magnetic field $\vec{E}=(0,E,0), \vec{B}=(0,0,B)$ and at $t = 0$ moves with velocity $\vec{v}=(v_1,v_2,v_3)$. What is the acceleration at $t = 0$ if $v_1 = v_3 = 0$?

Q: What should be our attitude towards small research findings that seemed to be a small jigsaw puzzle to something larger?

SecretIn the literature, there are many types of research findings, from big ones that attract so much attention that even the mass media will talk about it such as the LIGO gravitational wave detections. These research collaborations are often the result of more than centuries of culmination of theory...

Example of an insanely BROAD question
(like the broadest thing I have ever asked on the SE network)

Q: How to understand the claim that ''positions'' of entangled particles are correlated?

m1547Are both particles detected in the exact same spot of the detector? Something else?

and I have no idea what kind of experimental apparatus can entangle position states

I can't help wondering if he is deliberately taking the piss. How is it possibly a physics question to ask about building your own electron microscope?

Is that a thing that exists?

3:02 PM
@JohnR: It's true. Pizza cures heartbreak! I've coaxed my mother into allowing me to order pizza for dinner :-P

@Kaumudi.H Pizza cures everything. Cold pizza is especially good for hangovers.

user228700
Oh, that's new information.

Just ... not chocolate pizza :-)

user228700
NEVER AGAIN!!

@Kaumudi.H I'm sure well brought up Keralan ladies don't drink to excess and therefore don't get hangovers :-)

user228700
3:04 PM
Haha :-) Actually, I'm pretty sure that I'm not ever allowed to drink.

Water?

don't drink; smoke

How are you alive?

and smoke weed

user228700
Drink alcohol :-)

user228700
3:05 PM
@BalarkaSen That too.

@Kaumudi.H I'm not sure what else cold pizza is good for. Landfill possibly?

inject stuff into your veins?
pretty sure that's allowed

user228700
@JohnRennie By the sound of it, yes x'D

@JohnRennie Eh, I don't find cold pizza that bad in general
It is good for hangovers, though :P

cold pizza - pizza in general - it's all just good, period.

3:07 PM
@BalarkaSen inject pizza into your veins?

though i must admit - I sincerely do not like anchovies.
much to salty.

@JohnRennie he's smoking weed.

user228700
@heather Oh, hey, Heather! :-)

@JohnRennie interesting idea

@TheDarkSide I can't quite tell if that's an argument for or against injecting pizza into one's veins.

3:08 PM
@heather I didn't use to like anchovies or olives and I used to carefully pick them off the pizza. These days I love olives though I'm still lukewarm on the anchovies.

@ACuriousMind that's an explanation for what @BalarkaSen wrote.

user228700
@JohnRennie I have no idea what anchovies are but olives I like!

user228700
Ohh, they're a type of fish...

@Kaumudi.H Anchovies are tiny little fish. As fish they're fine but they are traditionally packed in salt to preserve them and they are fiercely salty.

user228700
Oh, I see...

3:10 PM
You can soak them to get the salt out, but that takes out a lot of the flavour as well.

I hate anchovies

Let me guess. Salt around will drive water inside them outside. So the fish stays alive?

@TheDarkSide what?

eats anchovies

@TheDarkSide No, they are killed and filleted and the fillets are packed in salt to prserve them.

3:11 PM
The fish is most definitely dead when it's being packed in salt

As live fish they are no more salty than any other fish.

Then why salt?

@TheDarkSide to preserve them. The high osmotic pressure kills bacteria and fungi.

Ahh. Preservation.
@JohnRennie Alright. I had a more crackpot explanation :P

@Kaumudi.H hello

3:13 PM
@TheDarkSide I'm curious :P

@JohnRennie olives are great =)

@TheDarkSide It's to stop sharks eating them. Sharks don't like anchovies on their pizza either.

i don't blame the sharks.

@HritikNarayan ACuriousHritik ?
@JohnRennie Now who is feeding them pizza?
We are all drunk.
It seems.

@TheDarkSide scuba diners

3:15 PM
Diners?
:P

olives are the best thing ever

@JohnRennie ::slow clap::

@TheDarkSide todays candidate for most rubbish joke

@JohnRennie :')

@TheDarkSide i'm underage, so nope =P

user228700
3:16 PM
@JohnRennie Wow.

@JohnRennie Genius, man.

i watched a terrible video of dad jokes the other day.
my favorite: what do you call a pony with a sore throat?

> adulthood has shown me that you really dont need fun to have alcohol

a little hoarse heheh

What did the grape say when the elephant stood on it?

3:18 PM
Thank God John's jokes have come out of the T territory :P

user228700

why did the blind lady fall into the well?
...
because she couldn't see that well.

user228700
Nice. Very nice.

ever heard the story of the three holes?

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?

3:19 PM
...
well, well, well.
2

@HritikNarayan A trivial joke bundle over a rhetorical question.

user228700
I'm so glad I was here to witness this x'D

@HritikNarayan a not very good joke =P

@BalarkaSen :P

Yes, that's adult content.

3:20 PM
^
Another.

when my friend told me to stop acting like a flamingo I had to put my foot down

knock knock

Well, I guess this is what people would expect from a room call "The h Bar" :P

@ACuriousMind hehehe ...

3:23 PM
@AccidentalFourierTransform deja

@HritikNarayan Oh OK - deja who?

:: Sigh ::

JR surely has the best pens among all of us.

3:24 PM
@JohnRennie knock knock

And best puns.

sigh
this joke works best 1v1

who's there?

user228700
@BalarkaSen Pens?

@ACuriousMind care to change the room name?

3:26 PM
a typo

@Justwinbaby To what, and why would I?

user228700
@Justwinbaby For a brief period, it was known as The h Bar(becue).

user228700
Ah, those halcyon days; hour upon hour of food talk!

why do you always question everything I say? lighten up

Well, he is curious.

3:28 PM
@Justwinbaby Say that to someone who is dark

@Justwinbaby That doesn't strike me as a good room name.

3:29 PM
..d

if you're going to make smileys, do it like picasso

I have a different understanding of Picasso.

Q: What is Dowsing?

A.HamidCan someone explain the phenomena of dowsing? How does this technique locate water running underground? Note that this water can be running in a pipe as well.

why did anyone star that?

You mean, ~\|

What you drew is a Vorticist art.
Not Picasso's style.

3:35 PM
Ah, anonymous star-man is back at it again!

user228700
...or woman. Wasn't me though :-P

@Kaumudi.H No, that's conclusive evidence :D

I predict that link is a David Bowie video

wow, that dancing black holes question that just came up is actually kind of interesting.

3:36 PM
@BalarkaSen The first few seconds of the song gave me cancer.

i was expecting spam, because it had dancing black holes in the title =P

@heather no it isn't. The inetnsity of Hawking radiation from stellar mass black holes is vanishingly small.

Q: Please add the individual close-as-off-topic reason in the Data Explorer

E.P.A couple of previous questions (How to find the actual close reason for a question? and How to determine why a question was closed from the data dump/data explorer) document the fact that it is currently impossible to find out the precise individual closure-as-off-topic reason used on any given q...

if people could pop over and show that one some love it'd be mighty 'ppreciated

@Yashas 's a good song

3:37 PM
@heather: in fact the Hawking temperature is well below the CMB temperature so the black holes would gain mass from the CMB faster than they could lose it by Hawking radiation.

@EmilioPisanty It is not funny.

@JohnRennie well, okay. still, i'm interested to know the reason.

@TheDarkSide what?

@heather The black holes are interacting with the gas around them.
Probably ...

@EmilioPisanty Look at the star board. :P

3:38 PM
[extremely relevant](youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ )

@EmilioPisanty done

@EmilioPisanty +1

@TheDarkSide No idea what you're talking about

@JohnRennie I feel tempted to flag that comment as offensive.

@Justwinbaby 'ppreciated

3:39 PM
np

@TheDarkSide huh?

@BalarkaSen It is a good but {v(t) : 0:07 < t < 0:14} part of the video gave me cancer.

@TheDarkSide that would be remarkably unconstructive, I should think

That's a fantastic start. Why would it give cancer? Unless, you'd mean in a good way.

did he die of cancer?

3:40 PM
@0celo7 I thought you couldn't afford it!

@HritikNarayan I wanna go back to Germany where it was physically impossible for people to rickroll me

it's blocked by GEMA

@EmilioPisanty Dude. The star board suggests we are all fooling around here. Bad time for serious stuff...

I see.

3:42 PM
@TheDarkSide I have no idea what you're talking about, but whatever rocks your boat.

I have to decide what's the movie I want to watch next up.

@EmilioPisanty Not anymore

Maybe another Villeneuve

@BalarkaSen have you been lucky enough to watch the Paul Blart series

3:44 PM
:O now I know why birds fly in the V formation

@ACuriousMind is it not?
things moved fast, then

@EmilioPisanty The GEMA made some sort of deal with YouTube around the end of last year

@JohnRennie Is the Hartle book fine? For a beginners venture, anyway. Or does it leave out too much math?

Haven't seen a GEMA block since then

@ACuriousMind well, whaddayaknow
that fight looked set in stone

3:47 PM
Yeah, it was pretty unexpected

I guess, as usual, the moment I leave a country is when the interesting stuff starts to happen
first brexit, now this

@HritikNarayan I haven't read the Hartle book so I can't comment. There's a what's the best book to learn GR question on the site somewhere.
@EmilioPisanty you got out at the right time. British politics is in a state of chaos right now. I've had to stop listening to the news because it's so embarrassingly bad.

yeah, the news is depressing also

@JohnRennie I guess I did, but I feel like there's this completely different country that swooped in as soon as I left
I left just before the campaign started, when brexit was just a twinkle in ye olde Boris & Nigel's eyes
and now... DUP?
where did that come from?

3:57 PM
they say "politics makes strange bedfellows"...don't know how that applies here

@EmilioPisanty The DUP have always been natural allies of the conservatives because the DUP (fervently) resist any moves for reunification of Ireland and traditionally the conservatives do as well.

@JohnRennie yeah, but still

So May has bought their support with a socking great bribe promise of funding at a time when we can't find enough money to pay our nurses.

@JohnRennie so, honest question: when's the next general election?

The credibility of the Conservatives is now effectively zero, but the Labour party is headed by a neo Marxist (I'm exaggerating for effect).
Either way we're shafted.
@EmilioPisanty I think the Conservatives will struggle on for a few years yet.
Maybe it would be better if the government collapsed quickly and we had a fresh round of elections.

4:04 PM
Even California is talking about Calexit.

4:20 PM
the preacher knows they are gonna stay

2. Britain politics is a mess
3. China and Hong Kong politics is a mess

From here it looks as if the European nations are getting their act together, just when the UK is losing the plot.

@JohnRennie good thing there isn't any decisive negotiation between those two parties coming up in the near future, then

@EmilioPisanty The Brexit negotiations are a joke. There's no way the 27 countries are going to reach a consensus. The negotiations will fail and in two years (less however many weeks it's been) the default will be a hard Brexit, which is bad for everyone.
It is your classic lose lose situation. It's a train wreck that everyone can see coming and no-one can do anything about.
If I said what I really think about the situation and the politicians involved I'd earn myself an immediate ban :-)

> It is your classic lose lose situation. It's a train wreck that everyone can see coming and no-one can do anything about.
I have a youtube video that might describe this well, metaphorically

looks like I entered a politics room :D

don't worry, the rules means we will nto stay in the political state very long in the superposition of h bar

4:50 PM
no more politics please

@Avantgarde I've now lost interest in discussing Brexit any further, and I doubt anyone else is eager to pick up the discussion :-)

let's play a game

We all have our favourite topics. Someone once counted how many times I'd used the phrase Schwarzschild metric and it was embarrassingly high :-)

The number of times I say Sobolev space in a typical day is too high

btw the answer was C. Zachos

The Schwarzschild metric is easy. It's money rep for old rope :-)

4:55 PM
doublt something can get this big without disintegrating

Hi guys, I need help with a basic physics question.

[insert yo mamma joke here]

Why is the tension maximum at A, and min at C?

ah Newtonian mechanics
cannot help you there, sorry

I can feel it, but can't deduce how.
@AccidentalFourierTransform Np :)

4:58 PM
As always, draw free body diagrams.
What are the vertical and horizontal forces on the string?

isnt the tension $\propto \sin\theta$?

@AccidentalFourierTransform I think so, but why?

@DanielSank Components of tension and Mg.

@SwapnilDas yes, draw the free body diagram.
Words are useless. Use a diagram.
