@JohnRennie - here's some clarification regarding that edit which (apparently) left you fuming. It doesn't matter now, since the question is on hold, but anyways. I first edited the tags and made minor edits to the post, and submitted the edit. Then, in less than two minutes, decided to add that link and resubmitted, believing that it would add to my previous edit.

Unfortunately, between these two events, the OP of the question approved my edit no. 1, something I'd just not imagined.

So, what you came across (link only) wasn't my full edit to that post.

@New_new_newbie That's not John fuming, that's the default reject message for no improvement whatsoever. The new reject messages are somewhat...harsher than the old ones.

Of course, you are right about your reject reasons.

@New_new_newbie No offence was meant - the SE have changed the reject reasons to be excessively aggressive IMHO. Amongst the previous reasons was "too minor", which really mans you shouldn't be editing a post for minor cosmetic reasons. This is what I really meant (assuming I'm thinking of the right edit).

Maybe minor edits are now encouraged ...

@JohnRennie They say "the system" will sort them out automatically. That even edits that change more than ten characters (or whatever the threshold is) can be too minor is apparently not an issue. If we feel strongly about rejecting an edit and no canned reason fits (or is too harsh), I think Shog9 is encouraging using the causes harm field like the old custom field towards the end of the official MSO post

@JohnRennie I'd say the intention was to make them direct, so that it's clear to people making these edits why they shouldn't be doing so. Aggressiveness is a side effect.

@JohnRennie and on that point: the idea all along was that edits which don't improve a post should be rejected. "too minor" referred not to the number of characters changed, but to the level of improvement made to the post, and that wasn't clear to people. That's why it was renamed, to clarify that.
