Huh I posted a question over at Mathematics.SE and got an upvote in about 3 seconds. It's been about 5 minutes now and I haven't gotten another upvote. Almost seems like bot-activity.

@dmckee I have to ask, have you ever gotten a lab report like this?

@ChrisWhite LOL

Do we really want the [food] tag?

@ChrisWhite Now that's funny. And it is certainly true that something involved in that is rubbish.
I've haven't yet lead an advanced lab where that might be an issue, but when I do ... well, much of our kit is rubbish too.

@DavidZ I recognize at least one of the "after" drawings. Bonnie Flemming is a ferociously able scientist. And another one might be Cat Stevens, though it is less obvious.

@dmckee: Was what I said in the Q about speed of sound construed as a personal attack, or was it the OP's comments?

@KyleKanos It was comments. They were general accusations rather than aimed at a particular user, but totally unacceptable.
I don't know why people think that asking people for help and call them names is a productive thing to do.
I'd've deleted the question and destroyed the user (the OP) except that it would have taken some rep from other users.

I was about to type up a comment that calling people cowards for not answering won't get many people wanting to help him, but then he got 2 or 3 answers. Would've seemed out of touch to post that then

4:24 PM
You are fine, but deleting just the OP's comments would (1) have left a fractured conversation and (2) made it possible to reconstruct the OP's comment when I was trying to head off bad feelings.
I feel so touchy-feely saying things like that.
Policy is not to call anyone out in public if we can help it, so I didn't say who I was directing my comment towards.

I've got no problems with my comments being deleted. I was just curious to see if OP had replied to my last comment and saw they were all deleted. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get another mod email

He had not replied, and no fear about a mod message. I'm not sure that engaging that user was productive but you were well within the bounds.

I finally got the Steward badge for first post reviews. Now I can feel a deep depression coming on as I ask myself why I spent so many hours slaving away for a virtual gold counter to increase by one. SE must be designed by evil, manipulative psychologists :-)

@BrandonEnright If you say "worthless internet points" instead of "rep" and "worthless internet medals" instead of "badges" it ... well it doesn't actually do much but at least you feel like you are resisting.

Hello
can anyone tell me what is Shrodinger equation for a photon?

5:27 PM
The Schrödinger equation is non-relativistic. Photons are fully relativistic. They don't go together. Use the Klein-Gorden equation instead.

thank you @dmckee

any chance that this is real?

?magnets?
dunno

good cg for sure
look real

not necessarily all cg
Looking at the video again, their motions look really controlled

well youtube comments are very informative as always

at 2:11, the guys shirt looks a bit hoisted

yep, fake

Maglev (derived from magnetic levitation) is a method of propulsion that uses magnetic levitation to propel vehicles with magnets rather than with wheels, axles and bearings. With maglev, a vehicle is levitated a short distance away from a guide way using magnets to create both lift and thrust. High-speed maglev trains promise dramatic improvements for human travel if widespread adoption occurs. Maglev trains move more smoothly and somewhat more quietly than wheeled mass transit systems. Their non-reliance on traction and friction means that acceleration and deceleration can surpass th...
am confuse, gonna go away

@DavidZ That's really impressive. My take away is that we should send every 7th grader in the country to Fermilab multiple times per year!

Q: Feedback on the "no close" week

John RennieHas there been any feedback on A week of community closing: what should be disallowed homework? ? My impression is that it was all a bit underwhelming and the close ratio was largely unaffected. Has there been any discussions amongst the mods, and if so what conclusions did you reach?

@KyleKanos thanks. this did seem unreal

quick question: does an infinitesimal have a measure
(i don't know if this quesiton makes sense or not, i don't really understand measure theory very well either)
