@Eduardo Guerras Valera About Ron's suspension, he has revealed it to us on quora, in a discussion with Larry Harson: quora.com/Ron-Maimon-1/…

And as for the second part of that comment, you can read about it here: motls.blogspot.com/2013/08/…

I hope you also plan to join the proposed Advanced Physics site:

By the way, I think some of the comments I'm posting on your blog are being considered "Spam" by Akismet.

This is an irritating problem it has been introducing lately.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS I deleted my own comment to turn it into a more constructive recommendation to Larry, you can read it now.
I have so far approved all your comments. Do some of them get filtered out by a bot or something? I hadn't the slightest idea...
I like the idea of that site, I will take part.

Q: Is my question "Is everything in the universe discrete" a duplicate?

trav1sMy question, "is everything in the universe discrete" was quite rapidly put on hold as a duplicate of "does the Planck scale imply that spacetime is discrete". I understand my question might have other issues as well, but it was closed for being a duplicate, so I would like to address that direct...

@EduardoGuerrasValera Oh, I meant that some of them are going directly into your spam, and not your "Pending" folder in your comments. You can un-spam them here: mcmahondemystifiederrata.wordpress.com/wp-admin/…

Anonymous
@EduardoGuerrasValera Oh, ok, Nice.

Anonymous
By the way, @DavidZ why did you delete my message?

Anonymous
What's so deleteable about that ? .

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS It comes close to discussing a topic that has to do with a suspension maybe?

Anonymous
@ManishEarth Huh? What do suspensions have to do with protecting users ? .

10:43 AM
The comment was about a ban
Yours

Anonymous
@ManishEarth Are you talking about the same message?

the deleted one

Anonymous

yes that

Anonymous
What has this to do with a ban?

10:46 AM
The linked comment does

Anonymous
No it doesn't. It's; about McMahon.

Also, you don't know if Larry has been warned in the past, privately. So don't go there. Discussing other users is not allowed.

Anonymous
and his books.

Oh really?

Anonymous
Yes

10:47 AM
So the part after the "By the way" in the comment isn't there at all?

Anonymous
I don't see why it can be considered to be about a suspension.

Anonymous
Oh, that.

If it was about McMahon, why would your chat message mention another user
I can see the deleted content.

Anonymous
Because he was argueing against what LH was argueing for. Buh? .

As per this discussion discussing other members; not allowed
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS so.....not just McMahon.

Anonymous
10:49 AM
LH was argueing against Mc Mahon; the comment by EGL was argueing for it.

Anonymous
Nobody was argueing in hatered of LH, as far as the comment is concerened.

Yes, but a user was being discussed. Drop it.

Anonymous
@ManishEarth By the way, that question is in the negatives.

your answer

The answers. See them.

A: Members discussing other members

Shog9This has been the de facto policy here for as long as I can remember. We strive to discuss actions not users, behaviors not people. This attitude follows directly from the standard philosophy of the main sites: we strive to focus on obtaining accurate and helpful answers, regardless of who writes...

Anonymous
I was just pointing out the contradiction.

That's not a contradiction. The question had arisen from a completely different case, which the MSO folks knew about.

Anonymous
10:52 AM
@ManishEarth I meant, the question was downvoted +!6 -19 but the answer (accepted) was upvoted +18 -4.

yes. so?
The question and answer are saying different things. The question is asking for something else, the answers are more clear about what is and is not allowed

Anonymous
maybe it just wasn't so clear to me, then.

Anonymous
11:05 AM
@trav1s, Regarding this, I agree with you that the question isn't a duplicate, but may be too broad.

Anonymous
However, it is probably better to close as a duplicate,

Anonymous
because that it gives you a nother question to refer to

Anonymous
You could have probably reformulated your question as "How does one find out which observables are discrete and which are continuous?".

Anonymous
As for the answer, the keyword is eigenjvalues.

Anonymous
@LarryHarson That was just to prevent people from being confused as to how I am posting answers when I am suspended.

Anonymous
11:09 AM
Maybe I should hhave tryied something like:

"Dimension10 is a sockpuppet"

for my user id ?

: )

@ManishEarth Well, it seemed like that.

11:52 AM
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS because it was an unjustified accusation, which you should know is inappropriate.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS Hello. I approved your "spam" comments in the McMahon site. I have to sit down and explore how that wordpress blogs work, I have no idea. Regarding the errata report you are sending, it seems that you are doing an excellent job. I will collect all coments and put them together in .pdf, that will be the first version of the errata sheet. I plan to do that before crhistmas.

@EduardoGuerrasValera Thanks for approving them. A couple of quick things:

Anonymous
- LaTeX works on WordPress.Com

Anonymous
Use the $latex cx^2+bx+a=0$

format.

Anonymous
- I think there's a sort of widget to convert comments and posts into PDFs, too.

Anonymous
I'll need to searchk for that.

Anonymous

- Because of the recent Akismet malfunctioning, which you can read about here, you'll have to check the spam folder often.

By the way, I think Dilaton's suggestion of including Supersymmetry Demystified is pretty good, though I have not read it; but the fact that Dilaton considers it to be his favourite supersymmetry textbook (according to one of his posts on PSE) probablly means that it may be a great book.

@Dimension10:Hi, how are you??:)

Anonymous
@2physics Normal?

Anonymous
except that I'm more frustrated about Physics.SE than before.

1:39 PM
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: oh yeah.. you know I thought SE is something different from school and university, you don't need to deal with some kind of teachers , ones who never spend their time on helping you to learn and plus maybe here you can find best advices and most always answers for your questions....

Anonymous
@2physics Well, there sure are very helpful genuine people here, and there obviously used to be more.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: of course you are right. but some other things arises over here..

Anonymous
Like Lubos, Ron, Dilaton, Urs Schreiber, Arnold Neumaimer, joshphysics, anna v, `'t Hooft, pho, Mitchell Porter, etc. who genuinely do care about the physics.

Anonymous
@2physics yup

Anonymous
as you can see, a considerably large proportion of the people I listed are/were suspenderd, or have left.

Anonymous
1:43 PM
Like user566 and Squark, too.

Anonymous
Or was Sqark a TP.SE user? .

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: actually some times democracy seems a little colorless over here :D

Anonymous
@2physics agreed.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: what's the main purpose of SE and people like you that spend their time here?

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS Out of curiosity, do you realize just how insulting this statement is? You're implying that all those other users you mean, the mods and users that disagree with you, don't really care about physics.

1:48 PM
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: If their purpose and final goal is to help others to learn and understand the reasons behind phenomena??

Anonymous
@MadScientist I didn't mean exactly that.

Anonymous
I didn't talk about disagreeing.

Anonymous
And I didn't say that

Anonymous
the mods don't care about the physics that goes on on this site at all

Anonymous
either

Anonymous
1:50 PM
I said that they care too much about

the SE model

Anonymous
and other things

I.e. I'm encouraging something like WP:IGNORE

which is a policy never successful on WP.

It's called WP:IAR, it should probably really be called

Anonymous
1:51 PM
WP:ITR; I g n o r e t h i s r u l e.

Anonymous
poor jimbo wales.

Anonymous
and i did say etc.

Anonymous
@2physics in theory, that's what Physics.SE is supposed to do.

Anonymous
a q and a site for people who want to know more about physics and for others to help them know more about physics.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: btw, What would happen if a question was a duplicate?? why do they care about it so much??

Anonymous
1:55 PM
@2physics well, that i agree. it is better to have all the answers in the same place.

Anonymous
as opposed to scatter it everywhere.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: Other users can refer the questioner to the previous similar questions!

Anonymous
and you can't go around posting the same answer everywhere.

Anonymous
@2physics that's actually the point of

Anonymous
marking it as a duplicate .

Anonymous
1:56 PM
partiaelly.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: btw when it's a duplicate then no body will able to answer it??

Anonymous
@2physics yes of course.

Anonymous
They could answer it on the

Anonymous
duplicate question.

Anonymous
By the way, could someone help tag this as research-level? : physics.stackexchange.com/questions/79489/…

1:58 PM
oh ok I thought when a question marked as duplicate, then no body will be able to answer it... ok

Anonymous
@2physics that is right.

Anonymous
you can''t answer the specific quesiton.

Anonymous
you have to go to the question that it is marked as dupliacate

Anonymous
of.

you mean the original one?

Anonymous
2:00 PM
A is marked duplicate of B. Don't add answers on A, add it on B.

Anonymous
@2physics yes.

and if want to add your answer on A , would it be possible?
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS:and if want to add your answer on A , would it be possible?
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: Btw, one of my questions has been marked as "on holed" I edited it , and linked to the edition proposed by mod whom made it "on hold" but it's still not opened. What can I do to open again???
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: And have you any Idea of what the answer of this question could be : physics.stackexchange.com/questions/79418/…
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: Do you know any software block/tool which can calculate Vg or derive the relation. than kyou...

Anonymous
2:27 PM
@2physics no.

Anonymous
@2physics To me, it seems to be asking a conceptual problem. Maybe I should try reading it again.

Anonymous
One solution would be to emphasise more on the conceptual bit.

Anonymous
@2physics It seems to be using some trigonmetric identities, at least at first glanced...

Anonymous
Yup, and it seems to be not the traditional simple trig identities.

Anonymous
@2physics What does "Vg" stand for?

2:43 PM
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: It stands for "Group velocity"

Anonymous
@2physics oic, I don't know any softwares for that.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS alright, thanks. and have any idea of solving it manually ?
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS alright, thanks. and have any idea of solving it manually ?

Anonymous
@2physics WP knows all

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: no.. I've read that page.Can't help..
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: Btw , You said you don't know what can I do to stop my question from being on hold??

Anonymous

Anonymous
2:50 PM
@2physics You can try emphasising on the conceptual part (the paragraph in which the bold part of your question is).

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: How? Where? to whom?? and plus the moderator whom put my question on hold has edited it and I've accepted the edition and linked to it!!
but it's still on hold

Anonymous
@2physics I meant edit your question to focus on that paragraph. You may as well get rid of the partsn in quotes, as they are specific problems. Those are probably the reason why the question is on hold.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS I said "with out using Fourier transform " .. thanks anyway..

Anonymous
@2physics Oh, but why'd you not want to use a fourier transform? .

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: Because I want to solve it in its traditional method . And there should be a more intuitive way like the previous example I have mentioned at the first part of the question. besides, I think using trigonometric identities (which results in solving this problem in a temporal manner ) could give a better view.

Anonymous
3:02 PM
@2physics In my opinion, Fourier Transforms are very intuitive.

Anonymous
All Integral Transforms.

Anonymous
They sort of map something from one domain to another.

Anonymous
Like a wavefunction in the space representaiton to one in the momentum representation.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS: okay but it should be solvable with out using Fourier transform
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS but for me using some simple calculations which I have been dealing with along all over my life, seems to result in a more intuitive viewpoint! :P

3:19 PM
Hey guys. I am looking for a book (more like a tome) that covers all aspects of modern geometry and its applications (manifold, analysis, cohomology, etc.) in a relatively abstract co-ordinate free notation. Also, what is the status on the changes to the book policy?

3:34 PM
@CrazyBuddy hey there :D

@RhysW Hey ;-)

have you heard there is a 'new' state of matter?
"What we have done is create a special type of medium in which photons interact with each other so strongly that they begin to act as though they have mass, and they bind together to form molecules. "

o_O

hmmm
Looks like the stuff is advertised everywhere... :D

4:13 PM
@DImension10AbhimanyuPS Yes, you are displaying a lack of understanding. I have personally worked in environment where I was at risk from very high voltages (both AC and DC); high magnetic fields; chemical toxins; radiological toxins; oxygen displacement risk for cryogenic liquids; high temperatures; low temperatures; laser that blind, burn or cut; corrosive materials; large volumes of flammable gasses under pressure; simple mechanical hazards and others.

These things are part of the job, and being aware of them and knowing how to mitigate them are part of the job.

@dmckee if we are allowed anecdotal experience I have many anecdotes from times at school where safety was of concern, flashback so many explosions

Therefore the mechanism by which some questions are marked as closed or on hold should be modified to prevent probable mistakes of considering some que...
