@DanielSank it looks nice
I won't speak for master @ACuriousMind though
He might have a more enlightened answer.

"Numbers are female, and the mathematician’s gaze
male. He looks at numbers, at 0’s and 9’s and 6’s,
sees orifices and desires to fill them."

8 is the sexiest number

Stop I'm in class

especially when it lies down

oh you guys!

8:12 PM
@Slereah rings are vaginas!!
Oh my god
I don't even what to know what a pushout is

is it the opposite of a pullback

You're thinking of the pushforward

Aren't you all supposed to be suspended now?

Did you flag all of us?

8:15 PM
nothing wrong about discussiong the female form

^
Sexist

@Slereah I believe the SE staff and the moderators would disagree with you.

Do you mean the PATRIARCHY

Idk what I said that's bad

5 mins ago, by 0celouvsky
@Slereah rings are vaginas!!
It's not "bad", it's just against the rules.
As far as I understand them.

8:18 PM
what a square

Flag if then. I'll face the consequences.

Never flagged before.
Not gunna start now.

Its all good in da hood.

@DanielSank good man

I am merely pointing out that I believe this conversation has violated the rules a few times.

8:21 PM
Fine.

What would you like to talk about instead?

Star Wars trivia fight.

Star Wars is boring

Not in the given context.

8:22 PM
@Slereah false

@DanielSank hey!

Ok Lord of the Rings trivia?

I haven't read the books
I read 100 pages of the ring books and I had to throw it away in disgust

he blocked me...

Lol

8:24 PM
Please unblock TanMath @DanielSank

@DanielSank did you block Tanmath

@skillpatrol Why do you think I blocked TanMath?

Because you don't want to talk to him?

He said so.

How could he know that?

8:25 PM
Lol

ok...

No idea

maybe he just doesn't want to talk to me...

The master trol at work :)

all i know, is he isn't replying to my messages...

8:25 PM
@TanMath Maybe I haven't seen a reason to respond yet.

@DanielSank did you see my questions?

You have a history of asking me questions and ignoring the answers. I am disinclined to talk to you.

😺

@TanMath No.

$\huge{😺}$

8:27 PM
looks like i can't ask questions anymore... I will die having my questions unanswered...

Pay close attention to his answers @TanMath

^ That is self-pity nonsense.

is there anybody else in this place who knows open quantum systems??
anybody??

Nope

8:30 PM
ok...
so what is your recommendation if I want to have a discussion on open quantum systems...
How should I find a person to talk you...

Hey @TanMath, I have an amazing idea: why don't you ask a goddamned question instead of filling this chat with self-pity and vague questions about what do if you need help?
I'll tell you what to do: ask a question.
You asked if I saw your question. I said no. You then, rather than asking the question, moved on to despair.

I kinda wanted to discuss the topic....

or read a book

Just ASK THE F------ QUESTION.

ok! ok!
also do you think the following question is too broad?:
"How would you develop a quantum computer on an FMO complex? I know you would have o encode the values of a function onto the site energies of the system, but how would you do that? how would you know which value would go to which chromophore?"

8:34 PM
@DanielSank chill.

@TanMath whether or not it's too broad, I wouldn't even try to answer it.

?

It's a bad question because it's asking how to do a strange variation of a thing, where the person asking the question doesn't understand the basic case first.

??

I don't like answering those questions because what the asker really needs is a more basic understanding of the issues at hand.
???
I can type question marks too.

8:37 PM
I guess the question is based on a paragraph written in a paper:
They talk about using the FMO complex for optimization...

@TanMath you should talk with @vzn.

They say you take a discrete function and encode the values of the function onto the site energies of the chromophore...
@DanielSank of course! he's into computer science... thanks for the idea...

12 mins ago, by skill patrol
or read a book

@skillpatrol I have read a book, and articles... these questions come from when I was reading these articles/books
For example, I have looked at couple of papers on ENAQT of FMO complex, and only one of them use quantum dissipation...
That same paper calls dephasing "phase-breaking"
so similarly, I thought maybe this quantum dissipation might refer to recombination... they just seem to use weird terms throughout the paper...
so that was one of my questions...

Good evening to everybody.

8:51 PM
Hi

Can i have an explanation, on this site, please? I asked a question, and each time I was voted negative. I would at least understand who he was and I wonder if there is a modicum of kindness and humility.
@Danu hiii

@Sebastiano I don't think you should be aiming for something like that. Why not think about how you can improve your questions? How to make it more attractive for users of this site?

is it fine to do reference-requests?

Yeah

@TanMath @Danu I am following a modern fundamental physics refresher course but I'm not a student. What should I improve if I understand the parties? Personally I use a lot LaTeX and when rating a negative question is just because it is off topic and leave a message.

8:59 PM
FOr example, ask for an papers that model thermal relaxation of the FMO complex? Is this question fine?

I follow this course twice a month and I'm always trying to fill me in. When I was a student I have not played these arguments

@Sebastiano are you sure you meant this message for me?

@TanMath I thought you were referring to me. I removed your name

nope, not talking to you... no worries!

@TanMath Another who voted negative my question. But there are scientists by chance on this site? physics.stackexchange.com/questions/322522/…
@TanMath Meanwhile, thank you very much for your kind conversation

9:07 PM
hi

@OBE hi
I go. hiiiiiii to everybody

10:10 PM
Hi, everybody.
Привет, @0celouvsky.
I just added a website link to my profile. Does this actually show up anywhere?

@DanielSank It does, yeah

@BernardoMeurer answer rebecca's question please

@0celouvsky Oh, let me get my phone

SpaceX launch in 5 min

C++ makes zero sense

10:22 PM
First reused rocket

What do we want? Rocket noises! When do we want them? NNNNEEEEEEEAAAAAOOOOOOWWWWWWW!

@0celouvsky False.

C++ is a frankenstein language
the original C++ was just an extra layer added on top of C
That's why it's so awkward

@OBE Stahp changing your name and pic

10:27 PM
though C++ is great compared to Javascript

@Slereah Pffhhh

And liftoff

JS is nice, I saw no use in C++

@DanielSank my gf is taking a C++ class and everything is a hassle. Converting an integer to a string is apparently impossibly difficult

10:27 PM

@SirCumference JS is one of the worst languages ever invented.

@DanielSank No u

@SirCumference If you're going to make that statement, you are required to watch this video.

In seriousness, JS is limited, but nice

@Slereah YES

10:28 PM
@DanielSank I'll watch it when I get home

@SirCumference No, it's a complete disaster.

@DanielSank The only reason you can tell me this is because the chat uses JS

Please, I don't think I'd complement the coding of this chat
Or of mathjax

@SirCumference That is not a compelling argument.

define: Java script

10:30 PM
define: quantum braid group

@DanielSank Think about it. 99% of why the Internet is so cool is because of JS
Gtg

@SirCumference No way, duder.

porn runs on JS?

The internet is amazing because it allows you to instantly deploy code to the user in a virtual machine that is guaranteed to run your code.
The fact that the language is JS is not a good thing.
We'd all be a lot happier if the language were e.g. python.

10:31 PM
Javascript mostly got popular because it's simple for simple things

The internet is cancer

Once you try to do slightly more complex things it's a disaster

JS is uber cancer
We need to remake the internet
Sockets suck
TCP is old

I hear the tale of javascript is the tale of most scripting language

@Slereah No, it got popular because it ran in a browser.
Period.

10:32 PM
@SirCumference The only good thing about JS is that it keeps JS programmers away from C

== English == === Alternative forms === Javascript javascript === Etymology === From Java (“a programming language”) + script, although the language is not closely related to Java and was originally to be called LiveScript. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈdʒɑːvə skɹɪpt/ Hyphenation: JavaScript === Proper noun === JavaScript (computer languages) A scripting programming language most commonly used to add interactive features to webpages. ==== Abbreviations ==== JS ==== Synonyms ==== LiveScript (obsolete) Mocha (obsolete) ==== Hypernyms ==== scripting language ==== Derived t...

First someone says "We'll make a language without all the complicated bits that make other language so hard to use!"
Then someone said "Oh shit those bits were actually important"

JS was developed in a weekend

and that is how script languages always fuck up

10:33 PM
it couldn't be good
it's a fucking scripting language that has C-like heavy syntax often times
like, wtf
Use your scripting powers

can we please talk about physics

if the internet was Python based the world would be a better place
Look

@0celouvsky When will u talk about physics

All these languages will die once Rust is stable anyways

Instead of math

10:34 PM
Noun: physics (uncountable)
  1. The branch of science concerned with the study of properties and interactions of space, time, matter and energy.
  2. Newtonian physics was extended by Einstein to explain the effects of travelling near the speed of light; quantum physics extends it to account for the behaviour of atoms.
  3. Of or pertaining to the physical aspects of a phenomenon or a system, especially those studied in physics.
  4. The physics of car crashes would not let Tom Cruise walk away like that.
  5. physics
  6. plural of physic
Verb: physics
  1. third-person singular simple present indicative form of physic

@BernardoMeurer My sides

@Slereah singularities

No language lasts forever (except FORTRAN)

COBOL is still around

Yeah

10:35 PM
@Slereah ::Looks at COBOL code at banks::
Oh the horror!

COBOL is the FORTRAN of businesses

Pascal?

I haven't seen any Pascal in a while

@skullpetrol my sister's south african slave?

Wow
It has landed again

@JaimeGallego huh?

The Falcon 9 rocket

@Slereah Read that, it's awesome

@0celouvsky Have you ever talked about physics in this room?

@skullpetrol Pascal is on it's last breaths

10:37 PM
@DanielSank plenty of times.
GR all the time

COBOL was a really awkward language, from what I've seen
It was like the 70's idea of an "easy" language
Written so that non-math people could hack at it
It had those weird decimal bits

Just remember, all the people who used COBOL and FORTRAN called C "high-level"
Let that sink in

Packed decimals
Well C was pretty nice for the era
although to be fair, C isn't that different from Assembly
Especially bare C

C is nice

The main difference between C and assembly is mostly functions

10:39 PM
Meh, not on my CPU design

and variables, assuming you don't allow macros in your assembly

Pop quiz: what does BASIC stand for? (No googling please)

@BernardoMeurer do you want to learn Lebesgue integration?

Bare C doesn't even have functions to allocate memory

::crickets::

10:40 PM
You gotta keep the overhead from the pipeline in mind when coding bare assembly for RISC-like architectures
MIPS has some BS

RISC is gross
I'm x86 all the way baby

@skullpetrol Beginners All-purpose

x86 is mostly fine when it comes to pipelining issues

Something something
I is instruction

I mean it's better to know how pipelining works in x86

10:41 PM
C is code I think

But you don't get weird shit like instructions executing after a jump
C isn't anything

@Slereah Make x86 on an FPGA :P

C is because it came after the language B

Bingo. @BernardoMeurer

I'm MIPS all the way if I have to implement it myself

10:42 PM
And B is because it's from Bell labs

Even though the pipeline has a 4-PC overhead at times

@BernardoMeurer I'll leave that to the Intel people

@Slereah Hopefully they hire me

RISC isn't fun to program on because it's not meant to
x86 was actually designed to code on

well, guess not

10:43 PM
of course it doesn't mean much these days
Not a lot of assembly coding going on

x86 is too messy

x86 has the same problem as C++
Lots of legacy code
x86 has two floating point units
But for actually coding I'll take x86 over MIPS any day

@skullpetrol Yes, it's silly
We need a new, pure 64-bit architecture

It would be nice, but then that means you can probably throw out a lot of old softwares
That's the dilemma of backward compatibility
Either clean up everything and old stuff won't work or just pile more shit on

Dude
x86 boots into 16 bit mode for compatibility with systems that haven't been made since 1980
It's silly

10:46 PM
How many programming languages do you know? @Slereah

I know
@skullpetrol Define "know"

To think that only now we are getting rid of MBR is silly
and BIOS

But I love BIOS :O

BIOS is such a fucking hacked together POS
uEFI all the way

Verb: know (third-person singular simple present knows, present participle knowing, simple past knew, past participle known)
  1. (transitive) To perceive the truth or factuality of; to be certain of or that.
  2. (transitive) To be aware of; to be cognizant of.
  3. (transitive) To be acquainted or familiar with; to have encountered.
  4. (transitive) To experience.
  5. 1991, Irvin Haas, Historic Homes of the American Presidents, p.155:
(25 more not shown…)
Noun: know (plural knows)
  1. (rare) Knowledge; the state of knowing.
  2. 1623, William Shakespeare, Hamlet (1623 first folio edition), act 5, scene 2:
  3. That on the view and know of these Contents, […] He should the bearers put to […] death,
  4. know pl (singulative knowen or knofen)
  5. nuts

10:47 PM
How are you supposed to make INT calls without BIOS
@skullpetrol I mean that there are a lot of languages that I know somewhat
And a few that I know well

@Slereah Using uEFI
and GPT

Does uefi even have interrupt calls for checking the floppy disk drive

How many can you fluently program in?

I don't know, but it might
I still use floppies though
So I'm happy with that

@skullpetrol Fluently probably C, C++, C# and Python
I had to do some floppy disk interrupts once
It's not fun to do

10:50 PM
C# is proprietary malware
Wait, MS Open Sourced .NET

C# is fine

I've heard great things about C#.

It's a nice enough modern language

@DanielSank It's the crooks trying to get you to sell your soul

Doesn't it have reified generics and all the goodies that other languages don't?

10:51 PM
I don't see why anyone would use C# as opposed to C++

yeah, it has fairly varied features
It even has lambda functions

Okay
Lambdas are cool

Also it has filters, which is nice

@DanielSank Remmeber that prof that complained about the line count of my assignment? :)

I'm not that fond of compiling to CLI but eh
These days it doesn't matter that much

@BernardoMeurer yeah

If you want to know all the languages I vaguely know, you can just look at the many lies on my resume

heeh hee

@DanielSank Delivered my assignment with:
1. Inline assembly
2. Wrong line endings

10:55 PM
He gonna have a gud time

@BernardoMeurer You're such a jerk.
y u do dat

Java, javascript, x86, mathematica, mathlab, Ada, Scheme, Bash

He picked a fight

Though I do okay in bash, I think
Not necessarily efficiently but eh it's bash
Not the most efficient language anyway

Next time my assingment will be in Binary that only runs on 68000 architecture

10:57 PM
What was your first programming language? @Slereah

Oh it was Pascal, actually
For some reason they taught us Pascal in first year physics
Pascal, then C, then C++
For some reason I avoided FORTRAN

No BASIC?

Nah
I don't think BASIC was popular after the 90's
I did code in VBA
Visual Basic for Application
During a job
Quite possibly the worst language
It's the scripting language of Microsoft Office
