It was a fast year for PHP. Just a while ago everyone was using v5.6, but now PHP 8 is almost out, and even WP complains about any version lower than 7.2.
What's WP gonna do with the new update? Something that caught my eyes was that @ won't suppress errors anymore, and WP uses it A LOT.

@JackJohansson core or plugins?
I guess the themes/plugins are just going to have to fix the errors rather than silencing them

Core itself uses @ a lot
Especially while handling DB
 
I actually made a spreadsheet to track all the suppression operators. Around ~170 last time I ran the grep
A couple of us were going through to get rid of what we could but not all of them have good solutions to just get rid of the operator.
 
I almost started using the @ a while ago, but I decided to go with try/catch and native error suppressor that some functions provide. Gotta lookout for future updates the way php is going
