Anyone ever heard about wp_get_attachment_metadata() getting an empty caption field when the attachment has caption text? Currently experiencing this. Doesn't seem to be caching related.

Have you tried using the unfiltered param? Maybe something somewhere is using the filter hook to empty the caption for whatever reason.

No, still no luck. Makes no sense. Going to be one of those where I need to walk away from it and have a lot tomorrow with a fresh mind. Been hitting a wall for an hour now! :'(

So... I would just debug it and check which part of it doesn't work.

If after this line: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/5.1.1/src/wp-includes/post.php#L5540 the $data contains proper values, then it's probably caused by "wp_get_attachment_metadata" filter. If it's incorrect already at this time, then you have to check earlier (in get_post_meta for example)
