This is all quite excellent. I know of only one person so far who is ardently opposed to the site.

Eh...I haven't either. We use subversion for most outward facing work and git for mostly internal stuff. All of our workflows for client work revolve around subversion...including the massive internal CLI tool. ;)

That almost looks like he's opposed to specialized SE sites in general... I could see why one may want to limit an SE site to strictly technical questions and leave the user ones elsewhere, but Magento has so many darn questions on the SO site it kind of deserves to have a dedicated home not cluttered with the chatter of other stuff.

@beeplogic Yes, I remember being in there. I don't have enough time anymore.

You can't really separate the two in Magento — and this is probably the year a lot of the non-programming solutions start to stabilize and get traction. A StackExchange site can only help with that, and you need the programmer type people to help make that transition happen.

That caught me by surprise too. I thought maybe you knew it was about to expire so you became more active about getting people to participate.

Regarding the original proposal though, I do get the Area51 point regarding old proposals, and I do defer to their stats on sites which live and sites which die.
