12:50 AM
@Mysticial I'm fine with it, but you'll need to be specific in the actual question. The answer depends on whether you mean the anime or manga or VN (and what version of the VN, since they add h-scenes with new releases).

Mainly just the Anime. But I agree it's hard to be specific since there's an untold number of times he does it off-screen.

And for the VN, it's probably pretty easy to answer since you can usually view any of the h-scenes directly from the menu. I don't have School Days on my computer anymore, but I should still have it on an external somewhere with a fairly complete savefile.

There's one scene where Hikari runs down Makoto's cellphone contacts list. But that doesn't give a precise number since he obviously does it multiple times with some of the girls.
If the VN is indeed a Hentai game, then I'd rather restrict the question to only the Anime or the Manga. The Anime is IIRC, isn't even classified as Ecchi.

@Mysticial I was sort of assuming you meant the times which could be substantiated by some direct evidence. But either way I'm fine with the question.

@LoganM I'll see how I can narrow it. But I'm not gonna bother thinking about it until we all agree that the question is appropriate in the first place.

1:22 AM
@Mysticial I'd allow it just to see where it goes, but I'm wary of it being a magnet for troll answers

@Krazer That's what I'm afraid of too.

We can always lock or protect the question, so it wouldn't hurt to try.

Note that the title that I suggested is potential reddit bait. So if it's answered well enough we could use it for publicity. In which case protection (and a mod notification) would almost certainly be necessary to keep out the trolls.

1:39 AM
@Mysticial in other words it's definitely 4chan bait

Which is why I came up with that question.
I'll use that title I gave. But I'm trying to decide what tone I should write the body in. Formal? Funny?
I'm leaning towards formal, but I'll use the term "laid" instead of "sex".

Funny imo, fits the context like a nice boat

@Krazer lol

Here's the funny version of the question:
Title: "How many times does Makoto get laid in School Days?"

Body:

How many times does this guy get laid in the Anime?

I mean seriously, if this was real life, he'd be **the man**. I could count at least X separate instances in the show, but he definitely had an endless amount of fun off-screen.

So I'll ask the question here: How many times does Makoto get laid in School Days?

I'm not looking for a specific number since that's almost certainly indeterminate, but rather a lower bound that includes all the confirmed instances as well as all the implied instances.

I'd like to know how many he's tapped.
I'd also be interested in how Lord Genome displays such subtlety and finesse in his hacking:

1:58 AM
I'm pretty sure that's how hacking works IRL.

So this is that brute forcing looks like

7:55 PM
@MadaraUchiha What are your thoughts on the School Days question from above?
As well as potentially using it for reddit/4chan bait.

8:21 PM
@Mysticial reddit is 4chan with a condom

@Mysticial Which question?

21 hours ago, by Mysticial
"How many times does Makoto get laid in School Days?"

It's a slippery slope.

A bit borderline if you ask me, you're pushing the SE policies to the limit.
And I don't want horny 4chan readers in my site

8:24 PM
While I personally want the site to be a bit more on the casual side than the other professional sites, I think this might be pushing it.

So I personally wouldn't allow it, definitely not on 4chan
That's a suicide waiting to happen.

Alright, so it doesn't go on 4chan.
So should we:
1. Don't ask the question at all. It's not appropriate at all.
2. Ask but don't put on 4chan. But keep the window open for Reddit.
3. Ask, but don't publicize.
I'm leaning towards 1 or 3.

@Mysticial I'll go with 1.

alright

Because even if you don't publicize it, someone from 4chan might.
And a seed in 4chan can grow into a full tree faster than a Zetsu under Naruto's attack.

8:30 PM
So now that brings up the issue. What if someone else posts it? We should probably set a policy on these sort of questions.

@Mysticial I'll try and check with the other mods what the network policy on the manner
If it's not very clear, we'll come up with one on our own.

Alright.

They had a site on sexuality (closed due to lack of traffic), so the policy is probably pretty inclusive

@LoganM They also had special rules for that site.

@LoganM Only that was a site specifically designed for such questions.

8:33 PM
For example:
1. You can't enter unless you go through a "are you 18?" page.
2. Questions never hit the multicollider.
Currently, we're too small for any questions to get high on the multicollider.
But say in the future.

Okay I guess we should check what the policy is for other sites then.

Do we want a question such as "How many times does Makoto get laid in School Days?" to be on the top of the multicollider.
Because that can totally happen.
Someone posts a question like that.
It gets on reddit/4chan...
boom...
It's similar to the employee sleeping with wife question from WP. But here it's a little further south... if you know what I mean.
On the other hand, some of the questions from gaming have pretty ridiculous titles as well.

I'm not sure we want to attract more questions like that. If people actually want to know the answer and ask, fine, but I don't want several questions like this every day from trolls, because we won't be able to tell which are legit and which are trolling.

That's why I brought it up in the first place.

So I'd rather we not post it on reddit/4chan if it gets asked

8:37 PM

School Days was something I came across while going down my MAL list. And this question popped up. Perhaps it's something we should discuss.

However, he said that as long as it's kept clean, it should be fine.
It's rather difficult to keep it clean though

There's definitely no sexually explicit material in the question.
@MadaraUchiha Exactly.

Especially if it gets traffic for 4chan.

But here's the body that I wrote up:
Title: "How many times does Makoto get laid in School Days?"

Body:

How many times does this guy get laid in the Anime?

I mean seriously, if this was real life, he'd be "the man". I could count at least X separate instances in the show, but he definitely had an endless amount of fun off-screen.

I'm not looking for a specific number since that's almost certainly indeterminate. But rather a lower bound that includes all the confirmed instances as well as all the implied instances.

Bonus points if you can list all the instances of when (episode and time) and with whom?
That's the funny version.
I can do a formal version that's less troll baity.
Krazer was in favor of the funny version.
*I haven't actually written the formal version yet.

8:40 PM
I still think that's pushing it rather hard

@MadaraUchiha "clean" means very different things to different people

Lemme go ahead and go a formal version and see how it compares.
Just for the sake of discussion.

What we need to know is what SE people think is allowed. Which may be different from what we think.

Well, Shog is in the room right now. We can ping him in anytime.
Here's the formal version:
Title: "How many times does Makoto get laid in School Days?"

Body:

In the show, I count at least X separate instances in the show. But there's probably more off-screen.

I'm not looking for a specific number since that's almost certainly indeterminate. But rather a lower bound that includes all the confirmed instances as well as all the implied instances.

It would also be nice to get a list of all the instances of when (episode and time) and with whom?

Note that I'm interested in only the Anime. But you are free to provide answers for the Manga and the Visual Novel as well.

@Mysticial Still don't quite get the purpose of such trivia. Is this relevant to the plot of School Days in some fashion?

8:47 PM
@Shog9 No. But we're testing to see what's appropriate for the site and for SE.
Maybe not this specific question. But as we grow, we're bound to get these types of slippery slope questions.
Given the nature of Anime.
So the question is: Do we want to allow them in some form (possibly moderated with an iron fist)? Or just exclude them completely.
Note that something with such a title could possibly appear high on the multicollider.
So that's something we want to take into consideration.
While it may be appropriate for the Anime community at large, it may not be appropriate for SE.

Well, IMHO there's always a temptation to ask puerile, nominally on-topic questions just to get a reaction. So you want to make sure that
1) They're serious questions (for some definition of "serious") - someone has a legit reason to want to know the answer.
2) The actual question and answers avoid the use of crude language or images. This is a content policy restriction, and may indeed be somewhat more strict than similar sites.

@Shog9 it's a good question, since in our members recruitment model, we're planning to expand via reddit and 4chan. Questions similar to those will occur.

I guess this specific example fails #1. There's no reason to know it. As for #2, there won't be any images. But the status of the word "laid" would be up for debate.

@MadaraUchiha Yeah... There's no provisions for an "adult-themed" SE site (or site subsection) as can be found on, say, Reddit. We had limited support hacked in for the short-lived Human Sexuality site, but even then the rule was: "use medical textbook terminology".

While we're on the topic of (possibly) inciting troll posts, have we actually had any problems with this so far?

9:02 PM
I shudder at the thought of the day someone asks about Boku no Pico...

@LoganM We're too small right now.

I know of only one troll post, which died pretty quickly: anime.stackexchange.com/questions/677/…

@LoganM dammit, I can't see it. :(

wow

9:03 PM
He joined the network literally for that one question..

Oh wow, it went down from spam flags?
I'm not a moderator so I wouldn't know or if it's appropriate to ask, but how much crap is coming in so far?

@Mysticial This happened pretty much right when we went public too. It was clearly someone who wanted to troll.

@Mysticial Not much, actually.
Which is good, but is likely to change once we get a boost of users

I know for sure the 4chan community isn't very tame.
Reddit should be better.
The use of protection is definitely gonna work a lot better here than on SO.
But that doesn't stop trolls from posting troll posts on other questions - not the one they came in from.

@Mysticial Or post troll questions
But that's perfectly fine.
That's why us mods and you flaggers are here

9:08 PM
@Mysticial Some 4chan boards are pretty tame. I use /c/ a lot to find fanart, and it has almost no trolling. /a/ and /jp/ are a lot worse though.

We'll deal with offenders by deleting, and repeated offenders by suspending. It's just as easy as it sounds.

Right now, when a slippery-slope SO question gets reddited, all the trolls are only on that question.
At least any of them that show up anywhere else gets buried within the sheer volume of traffic.
I'm not sure how it is on other sites.
But there's good reason to believe that it will NOT be restricted to the entry question.

@Mysticial Again

We'll deal with offenders by deleting, and repeated offenders by suspending. It's just as easy as it sounds.

yeah
I dunno what the risk is that you 3 get overwhelmed.

I don't see that as a problem. I've dealt with 200 crap questions a day before, we'll do just fine as 3 mods.
You get your ass to 2k already!

9:14 PM
@Mysticial If we're posting questions on reddit, I think they should be examples of what we consider good interesting content, not borderline or slippery slope stuff. If other people post it, then we don't really have any control over that either way so there's no reason to consider it at the moment.

@LoganM Yeah. The first few we put on reddit will need to be high quality questions that are well answered with really good answers.

The pokemon eating is good
It's both intriguing and well answered

@MadaraUchiha I can't say whether that will work or not. I'm not tuned on the FB stuff anymore.
The Clannad one is also very good.
I consider the Clannad one to be a better candidate for r/anime than the pokemon one.
Just because it hits the target audience dead center.

I agree

9:18 PM
A lot of the Type B people see pokemon as "meh, it's just pokemon".
Clannad is dead center.
Index/Railgun is dead center.
Which is why I'm waiting for an extremely good answer to my railgun question.

About the coin?

Yeah
The answer is: The coin doesn't carry the energy.
It's the beam that follows it.
But of course, much more expanded with pictures and such.
And even better yet - some math to match what I put in the question.

@Mysticial There's a beam following it? (I haven't seen it), it is a railgun, after all?

@MadaraUchiha No it's not a real railgun.
It's just named that since it sounds cool.

@Mysticial You can always answer your own question

9:20 PM
Self-answers don't work that well on reddit.
I've seen it on SO.
It might work here.
I'll see what Logan comes up with.
Ideally I get some physics involved with the energy needed to plasma-ize the air to give the beam its color.
But that kind of physics is beyond what I learned in College. So I actually won't be able to answer that.

@Mysticial Well, let's review the physical facts
Your calculations are quite (largely) inaccurate

@MadaraUchiha This could work, but we'd probably need someone who has some experience with facebook pages doing it. The only fb page I've ever subscribed to was the Dr Pepper one.

You assumed all 250,000KG of water were shot 100m into the air, where in reality, very little of that actually got to that height
@LoganM I agree

@MadaraUchiha I omitted a lot of things - such as heat loss and such. And I assumed 100% efficient energy conversion.

@Mysticial What I'm talking about actually matters though :P

9:24 PM
@MadaraUchiha I kinda hand-waved it with the 10% thing.

As for the charge

But even if the cone only reached 100m and the "average" was say (30m), it's still doesn't account for the 4 orders of magnitude.

I've done some calculations/experimentation (seriously), and I came up with the following conclusion:

That calculation wasn't meant to be serious, just an order-of-magnitude sanity check.

A ninja with sufficient chakra and the ability to control electrical fields will be even more invincible than me :P
However, charging a coin with electrical charge won't work, as the coin's conductivity will release the charge into the air along the sharper edges.
What is that beam made of?

9:27 PM
And I don't think the coin has enough rigidity to hold itself together at the relativistic spin speeds required.
@MadaraUchiha Not explained in the Anime. So we'd have make up something that sort of looks like it in real life.

@Mysticial Not to mention you'll need to spin it faster than the speed of light?

@MadaraUchiha No you don't. Because it asymptotes at the speed of light.

@Mysticial I'd rather not try to actually work that out because it's not my area of expertise. If it was on Physics.SE I would do it, but here there would only be a few people who would bother to read the whole calculation. But the basic idea is that the field carries energy, which polarizes the atoms, eventually ionizing them and setting off some exothermic process which releases some chemical energy.

@Mysticial Sure, the faster it spins the greater its mass, but still

You need infinite energy to spin the rim up to the speed of light.
But the answer is probably like .999c on the rim or something like that.

9:29 PM
@Mysticial Madara can do it though.

But actually getting everything to work out requires a lot of phenomenology that I'm not familiar with. I'd have to read a book or two before I could totally answer the question.

Then I guess we'll leave it unanswered for now.

I still say Mikoto's railgun, in actuality, is a coil gun

@Krazer Well that wouldn't explain the immense energy the coin has in that case.

The only way the coin would contain all the energy if my 3rd bullet. It turns some of its mass into energy. But not enough to significantly deform the coin or make it disappear.
Because the coin does in fact remain intact.

9:32 PM
@Mysticial But what makes that happen?

Leaving aside the "how" it does that.

Also, that would release high amounts of Gamma radiation

@Mysticial You don't need to get anywhere near that high; the required speeds are nonrelativistic. You only need a small fraction of it's mass energy. The trouble is that the total binding energy of a coin is even less than that, so you end up ripping the coin apart just with centrifugal forces.

As in, high enough for you to grow a second head

6 mins ago, by Mysticial
And I don't think the coin has enough rigidity to hold itself together at the relativistic spin speeds required.
I don't know if relativistic is necessary.
But 10^8 Joules is a lot.
And a coin doesn't have much moment of inertia.
I didn't actually do the math myself since I'm a bit shaky with rotational physics.

9:37 PM
I'd like to know how she as able to control the direction of her lightning bolts... I mean when an object is discharging electrons, it’s not like the electrons will just follow someone’s orders and go in a certain direction. instead, the electrons should always take the shortest path to neutralize the object...
which is why lightning tends to strike tall towers, the electrons in the clouds only have to move the distance between the cloud and the tower rather than the cloud and the ground

Tazers shoot a thin wire.

@Krazer By controlling the electromagnetic fields around her
With a powerful enough field, ever air becomes conductive.
Think about it though

Let's start with one assumption. (an axiom): Misaka can control all electric/magnetic fields around her within a limited radius. Don't explain how. Just accept it for now.
Can she aim lightning bolts like that.

Assuming a wide, 100m range for field control, that ninja will be able to:
@Mysticial definintely
Shoot lightning bolts at targets
Sense anything conductive in the surroundings

In this case it's way easier to think about it without rotational dynamics because relativistic rotational dynamics is pretty messy, . But if the edge of the coin is travelling at 0.9 c, for instance, then some sizable portion of the coin's mass (at least 1 or 2%) has a Lorentz factor of γ>2, for instance, so the kinetic energy is more than the mass energy for that part of the coin. And you only need around 10^-6 of the mass energy to get it to work.

9:41 PM
(Because they generate a magnetic response to the field when they move in it)
Exterminate any incoming physical attack by completely ionizing incoming matter with extremely powerful fields

@MadaraUchiha Doesn't work if the attack is gravitational in nature. Good luck against Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

@LoganM In other words, assuming no energy transfer loss, 0.9c on the outer rim is already enough.
That's lower than I thought.

@LoganM Electromagnetic forces are much stronger than gravitational ones
I'll say Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann will need your Good luck more than me
Also, we've been focusing on electrons
With enough field power, I can tear atoms apart, and using the nuclei as the weapon, instead of the electrons

@Mysticial You don't need anywhere near relativistic speeds to get enough energy. The trouble is that the coin only has a certain amount of energy holding it together, and rotational energy is basically trying to break it apart. So you end up just exploding the coin rather than the water.

With enough gathered, I have a much more charged piece, with much smaller space.

9:46 PM
@LoganM Yeah, leaving aside that issue... which I don't think non-stellar material has that kind of rigidity.
Charge will only pull the coin apart.
Forget gravity, it's too weak.

@MadaraUchiha Depends on the scale, and at the scale TTGL is at, gravity is way stronger. In fact, TTGL should collapse to a black hole almost instantly, but it doesn't for some reason. But if you want to play that game, then you can't even beat quark-gluon plasma.

@LoganM Well, the technique I thought of involves flying to the ionosphere, gathering charged ions from a large area, and bombarding an area as large as the continent of asia with a nuclear-death-ray.
@LoganM Also, on any scale, electrical forces are stronger than gravitational ones.
The constant K is bigger than G by several tens of orders of magnitude

But charge mostly cancels out.

It all depends on the charges and the distance.

@MadaraUchiha Wouldn't do a thing if TTGL decided to collapse the Milky Way galaxy to a black hole.

9:53 PM
@Mysticial Not if I control it it doesn't.
@LoganM That's kinda suicide isn't it? XD
(I haven't seen it though, what kind of a creature is it?)
Human?

But is a black hole really a black hole. I read a paper somewhere about how you could potentially overspin or overcharge a black hole to where the repulsion force exceeds gravitational.

In any case, the strongest character in anime ever (IMHO), is still in Naruto

Suppose you fed a black hole with only electrons.

The sage of six paths, and his "You only imagined you did it no Jutsu"

That paper said it was inconclusive.

9:56 PM
@LoganM SOSP: "Black hole? What black hole, are you sure you didn't dream that up?"
Are you sure you aren't a flower though? I'm pretty sure you're a Daisy.
That ability beats Goku and Superman combined, any day :P

@MadaraUchiha It's a robot about 10 million light years tall.

@LoganM SOSP: Sure it isn't a daisy though? (and it would be a daisy)

i.e. 100 times the size of the Milky Way

@LoganM SOSP's ability is reality manipulation. Even if you killed him, you only imagined you killed him.
It's not very fair really

@Mysticial You can actually reduce the size of a black hole with enough charged matter or with rotating matter, which will cause the black hole to radiate, but what gets emitted isn't the original matter. It's Hawking radiation, which is basically random junk.
@MadaraUchiha What is SOSP?

Sage of Six Paths = SoSP
Or the Rikudo Sennin in jap

@LoganM I'm aware of the Hawking radiation. But for the most part, it's not significant unless the black hole is small.

@Mysticial What you're doing when you throw stuff into a black hole to make it rotate or charge it is essentially inducing Hawking radiation. In this case, there would be a pretty sizable amount.

hey

Hey @JNat
I was just telling him how SoSP would kick any other character's ass using the "You only dreamed that you did that no Jutsu"

@MadaraUchiha any other from naruto? or from anything?

10:10 PM
@JNat Anything

@MadaraUchiha yeah, you're right
@MadaraUchiha at least from the characters I know
I don't know any that could beat him

@JNat Truth :)

has anyone here presented worthy adversaries?
lol :)

Only they'll probably never meet
SoSP doesn't need to "revive" anyone, he can just cancel his death
@JNat Well @LoganM brought up a 10 million light-years tall robot

@MadaraUchiha o.O
where's that from?

10:13 PM
Gurren Lagann, known in Japan as , is a Japanese mecha anime television series animated by Gainax and co-produced by Aniplex and Konami. It ran for twenty-seven episodes on Japan's TV Tokyo between April 1, 2007 and September 30, 2007. It was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, written by veteran playwright Kazuki Nakashima and had been in development since the participation of the famed animator in the Abenobashi mecha themed episodes by the same studio. The anime won several awards at the Tokyo International Anime Fair and the Animation Kobe and Japan Media Arts Festivals. Licensing...
Well
I'm off to bed

@MadaraUchiha sleep tight :)

Let me know how the argument went, don't let SoSP down!

@MadaraUchiha lol I won't let you down
@LoganM what can this robot do?

@JNat It's hard to say, because the physics in Gurren Lagann is clearly impossible. But at the very least, it can fight other giant robots with a drill.
A much less powerful robot in the same series is able to "rip a hole in the space-time continuum," whatever that means

@LoganM hmm, that cannot win against genjutsu, I think
@LoganM is that one considered one of the type B anime?

10:23 PM
@JNat I don't think so, but I've never fit very well into the Type A vs Type B framework myself
@JNat What is genjutsu?

@LoganM they are illusionary techniques
here
there are several types

I think we should change gears and discuss the German dub of Naruto next:

from entering your unconscious and torturing you in 1 second for what seems like some 3 weeks

Can it work on the scale of galaxies? TTGL is 100 times the size of the Milky way.

@LoganM I don't think the scale is relevant
but I'm not sure

10:28 PM
@Mysticial Do you think Gurren Lagann is Type A or B? I'd guess A, but I don't really know.

@JNat What's to say that the genjutus will even work in the TTGL universe?

@Krazer who's to say the robot would work on the Naruto universe?

@LoganM Type O, imo

@Krazer Seems reasonable. lol

hey @LoganM, do you think you could include some of the most well-known examples of each type (a and b) on your answer?

10:31 PM
@JNat Sure, but people will debate that a lot. I'll think about it and see if I can find some good examples though.

@JNat What's to say any of this really matters xD?

@Krazer XD
@LoganM ok, if you think it's not a good call, don't do it :)

@LoganM Lets go about listing some, some are less debatable than others

@Krazer Type B: K-on is an obvious choice.

@Krazer it would need to be set on another universe, where both abilities from each universe where still possible

10:33 PM
Type A: Monster is an obvious one too

Okay, I found something on Sankaku. Here are their examples:
A: Higashi no Eden, Lain, GitS
B: K-On, Queens Blade, Strike Witches
I don't like Queens Blade and Strike Witches as examples because it makes this more about fanservice than I think it is.

Lets not forget this series for Type B:

10:49 PM
@Krazer @JNat I've edited it; check and see if you have better examples: anime.stackexchange.com/questions/2276/…

@LoganM looks nice, and I asked you because I really didn't know good examples of each type
so I think I cannot add more examples
