@Memor-X I have actually been wondering where the English titles come in along the way. I have a feeling this is probably case by case.

I've always found that English translation for a title ("Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto") kind of weird

As I am watching the second season of "My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected", that English title grinds also

It seems to be a trend to have longer and longer titles for light novels/manga/anime in recent years. Some of their English translations could use some improvement, methinks

I don't think "Haven't you heard?" carries quite the same connotation as が. It sounds really in your face

oh, yeh, the OreGairu one is translated literally, but not Sakamoto

my literal translation attempt for that is "But I am Sakamoto."

@AndrewT. I think your version is better than what they put out. I had in mind "I am Sakamoto, so?" Granted, the nuances are difficult to translate.

Just some random ones that I read about in the past. Apparently this is old, recently they don't even bother changing the titles.... to be fair, based on what I'm told, recently Italian television broadcasters simply don't broadcast anime in the first place.

This is all about ANIME titles changed for TV broadcasting. Comics usually kept the original title.

Slayers => Un incantesimo dischiuso tra i petali del tempo per Rina
Translating to something like "A spell blooming amidst the petals of time for Rina"

Orange Road -> E' quasi magia Jonny
Trad: "It's almost (like?) magic, Jonny". That because the protagonist name was changed to Jonny, along with every other character name too.

Rayearth -> Una porta socchiusa ai confini del sole

Trad: An half-opened door on the "verges of sun"?

Take for example TV Tropes page about "Orange road"

The Italian opening. The lyrics of the theme song were clearly written by someone who don't know anything about the story. The song is mostly about Kyosuke (called by his dub name "Johnny") and his powers, not a single word about the love triangle which is the main plot of the anime. It uses some random adjectives to describe Kyosuke, like "sincere" (when for most of the series he's anything but) or even "affascinante" (meaning "charming, seductive"). It also states that mind-reading is one of his powers, which is of course not true.

"sincere" Kyosuke is meme worthy.

But you know, Italy is still stuck on Fishman Island saga - I think it ended broadcasting back in 2018. And that is an aprossimation... I heard they started that arc in 2016... and managed to stretch it for 2 years with batches of 10 new episodes every... 6 months.

Then, nothing. A private TV broadcasting company still hold the rights so no one else can broadcast the anime there. Only manga

Somehow, crunchyroll still managed to get away with the simultaneous subs, but that mean they get access only to the CURRENT episode for a few days when it is aired.

Q: What's the song heard when Kimura Tatsuya had the epiphany of creating the "Dragonfish Blow"?

@Memor-X didn't say it wouldn't, just that I wonder if it was a "retcon" in a way, meaning they went with the idea after realizing some fans already shipped the two characters or if it was planned all along.

Wondering because it could explain some awkward reactions Bubblegum had to Finn in some episodes.

For comparison, it is pretty clear that canonizing the status of Bon Bon and Lyra as a couple in MLP:FiM wasn't originally planned and was a later addition based on fan made theories / works

So, I'm just curious.

@Derpy How they do that though? Luffy is mentioned by name in the series. Literally everyone calls him "Luffy". So every time Luffy is called they just sub/dub it as "Rubber"? That's some rubbish they pulled

@Derpy Unbelievable. I do think Italian One Piece fans deserve better. It seems now most popular anime in Japan engage multiple channels and online platforms. I don't know why they can't license multiple licensees in Europe and NA. I think with the kind of popularity anime enjoys in East/South East Asia, in those regions more than one online platform get to air a series in the same country at the same time, but in Europe it seems not so much the case.

oh ok I played the + version on steam about 2012

didn't find it interesting enough compared to other games at the time

I think I got it as part of some bundle

I got hudreds of games from bundles like that, never even played 90% of them

and it doesn't seem like it would be a good time to try all of them
