@Memor-X Did it take this long for it to be licensed for release on disc, or is this a redub?

>dub

@Tonepoet it was licensed by Bandai but it expired and now Funimation has the license while this is a new dub, originally it was only subbed.....or at the very least Australia only got Subs

@Memor-X Oh, it was a Bandai license. Well that explains it I guess. I think Bandai also did a sub-only disc release of Gurren Lagann. @Forest You'll have to forgive me, but sub-only D.V.D. releases are extremely rare.

They usually at least have subs. Plus it's better to download it from a quality fansubber anyway.

@Tonepoet not really. it just depends on who got the license
like with NISA it was rare to get a dub which we got with Season 2 and the movie for Love Live
@forest i have no problems with that if you then buy the original Japanese DVD so that the creators are supported

3:47 AM
Yeah if it's a good anime I usually buy the Japanese copy or at least buy merch.

@Memor-X That's interesting. I don't have much from N.I.S.A. though. I haven't noticed it with Funi., A.D.V., Sentai Filmworks or Geneon U.S.A. though.
And yeah, I know, Sentai Filmworks is basically just A.D.V. wearing a fake mustache, but still....

@Tonepoet NISA did Toradora, Love Live, Yuru Yuri, Natsume's Book of Friends, Otome Youkai Zakuro, Persona Trinity, Katanagatari and probably some more i've forgotten. all of those were subbed only except for season 2 and the movie of Love Live and i think Toradora
they also re-release Cardcaptor Sakura but that was dubbed before them

That reminds me, I think the Pioneer Cardcaptor Sakura D.V.Ds. were sub only.

they haven't released any DVDs since the the Love Live Movie or atleast Limited Editions

Gotta love finding a download that advertises 720p but is only 40 MiB...
Does 500 MiB for 90 minutes of H.265 video/Opus audio seem right?
Claims to be BD with dual audio, at that.

seems small to me

Me too, but visually it looks fine. Says the dimensions are 1080x1920.
> Stream #0:0: Video: hevc (Main), yuv420p(tv), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 23.98 tbc (default)
> Stream #0:1(jpn): Audio: opus, 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp (default)
No idea what half of those mean.

@forest y/u/v is a colorspace and the fact that 420p is written after it suggests to me that the color resolution is low.
However, that is just a guess.
Color resolution being separate from brightness resolution.
Chroma subsampling is the practice of encoding images by implementing less resolution for chroma information than for luma information, taking advantage of the human visual system's lower acuity for color differences than for luminance. It is used in many video encoding schemes – both analog and digital – and also in JPEG encoding. == Rationale == Digital signals are often compressed to reduce file size and save transmission time. Since the human visual system is much more sensitive to variations in brightness than color, a video system can be optimized by devoting more bandwidth to the luma...
YUV is a color encoding system typically used as part of a color image pipeline. It encodes a color image or video taking human perception into account, allowing reduced bandwidth for chrominance components, thereby typically enabling transmission errors or compression artifacts to be more efficiently masked by the human perception than using a "direct" RGB-representation. Other color encodings have similar properties, and the main reason to implement or investigate properties of Y′UV would be for interfacing with analog or digital television or photographic equipment that conforms to certain...

Hm, Horriblesubs shows that a mere 20 minutes episode of the same show at 720p is nearly as large as 90 minutes of material at 1080p from the download I used...
Problem is that I'm stuck with Tor for a while so I can't torrent or use XDCC. :/
So Horriblesubs' release is about five times larger per minute than my download.
But it doesn't look low quality.
Average bitrate is about 800 kb/s.

My advice, as always is to buy the disc. =P

Well if I could buy it directly from the creators, not from something like Amazon.

Well, they don't even make laserdisc anymore, so...

It looks like H.265 is often around a fourth the size of H.264, which actually adds up with Horriblesubs' release being ~5 times larger than the download I have. I think the only reason it's so small is that.

Q: Raye Penber conversation with Yagami Light following the bus incident

OdinAfter the bus incident, Raye Penber asks Yagami Light to keep seeing him a secret from the police, Yagami agrees and says "I won't tell anyone, including my father". Wouldn't Raye Penber ask himself why would Yagami Light think I know his father is in the police force? Doesn't it give a hint that...
