every time I tried watching either of them, I tried to follow the plot, the characters, but each time I realized that I just don't care

mission shmission

just have interesting and fun adventures

it's a lot more fun to read random short sci-fi stories

with few specific characters to focus on, in a new unique setting each time

and this is also why I like movies more than long-ass tv series

sayonara zetsubou sensei uses those masked patterns which don't move on the screen, but that's okay as it's not annoying or irritating like in those
