@Memor-X: I've never seen "Descending Stories" either. I've only ever seen the Japanese title on blogs (I don't personally follow the series), and apparently Crunchyroll also uses it too.

i thought since the full title on wikipedia is Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju the later part was more of a subtitle

like how Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia's japanese release name is Ar tonelico: The Girl Who Keeps Singing at the End of the World (アルトネリコ世界の終わりで詩い続ける少女 Aru toneriko Sekai no Owari de Utai Tsuzukeru Shōjo)

@Memor-X: Yeah, same here: I'm reading the official translation of the first chapter of the manga right now, and "Descending Stories" is in a big font, while "Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju" is in a small font.

(As an aside, I'm not sure if I should be picking up any more manga at this point, when I'm currently reading five different titles. Two of them are still being published though.)

@Maroon just to them on a to read pile. when you finish the 3 titles that have been finished and your waiting on the next releases of the 2 that haven't then you got someone else to read next

@Memor-X: Nope, I'm referring to the fact that there's only 31 chapters.

Issues of taste aside, I'm mostly hesitant to pick up anything that's a) very long or b) publishing, and Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju is neither.

And while I'm not overly interested in the subject, 31 chapters isn't a bad investment. (The last time I read something of that length, I complained that the manga was in fact too short and didn't explain some character background enough.)

@Maroon i was just about to correct you but then i noticed this shows the chapter numbers start over mid volume

(Wait no, the last manga I read that was around the same length was one I found disappointing, so it's more like "the last manga I read of that length that I also enjoyed was one that I found to be too short.")

@Maroon i can understand the very long part since it might get boring after a while but publishing well think about it like this, we have pre-knowledge of them a series is finished before it's released

@Memor-X: It's more that "very long" means that it'll take forever to read. (Well, Liar Game took me around a month, and it was 203 chapters, so it wasn't that bad. But I'm thinking of getting Yona of the Dawn, and I need to read 130-some chapters just to catch up!)

Having some idea that there's an end in sight does help though, particularly since I usually dislike stories that seem to just go on and on (e.g. SAO) unless I can "read" them as simply being a collection of stories (e.g. Monogatari).

@Maroon i generally don't mind long series because you read a series for a while you grow fond of some character that when the story end it feels that they've died since you no longer get to see their lives

@Memor-X: I could see that, with some series, particularly those where the character development is more or less the plot. Like I'd be interested in seeing how Hanekawa eventually settles down and finds a place for herself in the world.

@Maroon Yona of the Dawn? or.....

With others, maybe not so much. (All I wanted to see in Monster was Dr. Tenma getting exonerated for the murders he's accused of. I could imagine enjoying a post-series story about him or about Nina, but only as a "separate" story.)

@Memor-X: You're asking about the "character development is plot" thing? If it's that: I don't know about Yona of the Dawn (I suspect it'll come up, but I imagine there's also a "event"-based plot component).

@Maroon oh Tsubasa Hanekawa. i still havn't picked up the anime since after like the first story of the second anime series (think it's Nise?). i'm still hoping that Araragi and Hitagi break up, Araragi ends up with Tsubasa and Hitagi and Kanbaru get back together but as a couple

@Memor-X I found it kind of weird in Hanamonogatari when Numachi tells Kanbaru that she'll end up with a "normal" life and get married, have kids, etc. I wasn't sure if that was really what Kanbaru would want romance-wise?

I should probably actually rewatch the Kanbaru arcs, actually, now that she interests me as a character.

@Maroon don't know who Numachi is but maybe they can't see the future as well as they might claim, instead using overly generic assumptions which just got them caught out when they apply them to a girl who admits she's a lesbian

.......or Kanbaru's future partner is a Futa

@Memor-X Ah sorry, Rouka Numachi only comes up in Hanamonogatari. Alas, I think she even says something about knowing that Kanbaru is a lesbian sometime before that.
