@EliahKagan I intended to look for IPython questions that need attention while taking breaks from the work I was doing today, but I was enjoyably distracted by other chats and I took few enough breaks that, happily, I unexpectedly finished my work!

But since I was stuck in that unsupportive chair all day (it's all form over function in this house) my back is hurting so I turned off my laptop

So I will look for those questions another time

This does not prevent you from using a different remote in the future.

You can even have multiple remotes set up at the same time.

Have you made an empty repo on GitHub before? Like, without even a README?

If you do that, GitHub shows instructions, including specific commands, for setting it up as a remote for a local repo and pushing to it

If so, that's your whole repository, including all commits in all branches (that existed locally).

As far as Git is concerned, those are just untracked files.

If you want them on the branch that's currently checked out then you can just stage and commit them.

Sorry for the confusing mistakes. I am feeling a bit euphoric and light-headed due to working too hard (hahaha I have a very low capacity for work) and finishing my work

If you want them on another branch you can usually just check that other branch out and do it. (If they don't conflict with anything, the untracked files can remain across a checkout.)

Depending on the kind and extent of the changes, you might decide to stage and commit them all at once or as multiple commits.

You might want to install Dropbox. Since then you can sync the changes. Every commit makes changes inside .git. You probably don't want to wrangle that manually in the web interface.

One thing to be mindful of is that when you're using git on another computer, the parts of the configuration that are systemwide or per-user (rather than per-repository) may be different.

Like, you'll have to tell git your name and email address again, unless you stored those in the per-repo config (in which case they're in the .git directory synced to Dropbox).
