@Zanna Yeah, root has special powers.

@Zanna Well, I think that's to protect root. Aside from setuid executables, execute permissions on non-directories are really more to protect the users whom they constrain than to protect other users or the system from those users.

I think I can understand that, though. I'm assuming the downvote expresses that the method is not worth using, rather than a flaw in the code or presentation that I am unaware of (or, if the latter, that they'll comment).

worries about how often that might happen I noticed because I got +8 instead of +10 and thought "didn't I only downvote one answer this morning?" But what if I accidentally downvote questions that I intend to upvote or vice versa? Sorry about that!

Ha! No problem. It wasn't really necessary to re-edit though (though the small punctuation edit did slightly help the post). You could've waited for me to eventually edit it for unrelated reasons. :)

Interestingly... I don't seem to always get notifications when my posts are edited. Is that normal? For example, neither of your edits on that answer notified me. I don't just mean that I didn't get a red icon, but also that there's nothing for them in my SE inbox. I would've figured that the first edit, which changed code (thanks for fixing that typo btw!), would have notified me.

With the new notifications section in the global inbox, this is now done for substantive edits to your post and for any pending suggested edits to your post. When an edit is made to your post: When the edit applies to code: When an edit is suggested on your post:

In order to reduce noise sent to users, we only notify when "substantive" changes are happening on their posts. There are a few rules in how "substantive" is defined, but typically one of the following should be enough to trigger a message: edit to a question title the edit in the post body sh...

If so, that seems to explain it.

@Zanna I agree. I think it also sends kind of a bad message, that comments on a user's post always notify, but edits don't. Edits change the content of posts, which are what the site is all about.
