@RandomPerson Are you talking to me or just saying someone , that is kinda confusing , I generally don't review answer and questions so I don't share feedback as comunity ♦️

10:17 AM
@someone I am talking to you. I hope you know that your username could be confusing some times.
I noticed that in some of your past reviews you shared feedback as Community bot.

10:49 AM
@RandomPerson ok
hi @BeastOfCaerbannog
does anyone likes configurations ? (in desktop environments)\

@someone Hi!
@someone What kind of configurations?

any kind
I really like configurations

Oh. Nowadays I mostly like to see beautiful desktops than try to implement some configuration on my one. I usually keep my desktop fairly simple. Just GNOME with Adwaita.

@BeastOfCaerbannog adwaita ? it is kinda bored
do you have less ram ( less than 2 gb ) ?
this question needs an edit - askubuntu.com/q/1379494/1460940

11:06 AM

vanilla gnome ?

@someone Yeah, but it's really functional
@someone Yup

did you removed ubuntu-desktop

@someone Oh, no. I have quite a bit. 24 GB to be exact.

that is sooooo much

11:07 AM
@someone I installed gnome-session

i have 16 gb
@BeastOfCaerbannog ik
@BeastOfCaerbannog if you have that much ram you could easily load heavy themes

@someone Yeah. I rarely use all that RAM. My laptop came initially with 8 GB of RAM, but I needed more. 16 GB would be fine, but since I wasn't sure if an additional 8 GB RAM stick would play OK with the original one, I purchased a 16 GB one, so I ended up having more than I usually need.

ok

@someone The problem with many themes is that I find them distracting and they don't always play well.
Even Yaru has some problems.

probable boot windows or something once in a year to make your ram working or test your ram speed
@BeastOfCaerbannog IDL yaru, it isnt too good to be default ubuntu-theme
do you like my desktop ?
btw don't you have dock ? pure vanilla gnome ? that isnt so good

11:14 AM
@someone Yeah! It's colorful and happy!

@BeastOfCaerbannog thanks
it is pure orchis setup
what is your cpu specs ?
i recently bought amd ryzen

@someone I may try it some time
@someone I have an i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz

sure
@BeastOfCaerbannog oops
your cpu isnt too good
does it even handle your ram

Hahaha! You say that because of its frequency?

@BeastOfCaerbannog old model probably

11:20 AM
Well, not so old

but yeah, frequency is also less
@BeastOfCaerbannog probably 4 years ?

It has 4 cores/8 threads and a max frequency of 3400 Hz
I don't think it's bad

what ?
it is soo good

@someone Yeah
@someone Hahahaha :)
What Ryzen did you get?

9
55k
12 Cores 24 Threads 70 MB Cache 3.7 GHz up to 4.8 GHz AM4 Socket 500 Series chipset (100-100000061WOF)
well... i didn't bought it
it is my brother who gifted it to me ( he uses it all the time :/ )
but it is really smooth
i like it
probably i should buy a new keyboard with k key
i like building pc too
this was the older spec of the prebuilt pc - intel i5, 4gb ram and now - ryzen 9 - 16 gb ram

11:31 AM
@someone Oh! It's a monster! But it's hard to use it to its full potential, unless you have specific tasks, like scientific computations

yeah
it never go above 2ghz
i sometimes try to overclock but for what ? it is a gaming cpu but i am not a gamer

@someone I don't see a point in that
Let alone it can be dangerous for your PC

lol
from overclocking i mean booting windows
i don't have a good gpu though
i only get almost 1080 p display

@someone Isn't this OK for almost everything?

yeah, but not much
my cpu and ram is too much
but gpu isnt
do you like windows 11

11:37 AM
@someone I haven't tried it

windows 10 ?
btw i hate windows 11
windows 10 is better than 11
windows 11 is copying linux kde
it looks like windows is a closed source linux distro running kde

@someone It's OK, but I use Ubuntu almost exclusively

yeah, you can never compare linux with windows
have you tried mac ?

@someone No. I don't like their marketing/ideology and I wouldn't spend so much money on a computer.
Have you tried it?

yeah, my brother uses it for work
he works in paypal in south india
it is not to good
i would rather use kde plasma
it is way too costly
do you use 21.10 or 20.04 ?

11:47 AM
20.04

ok
i use 21.10
it is good with gnome 40

Yeah. It's tempting to upgrade to 21.10, but I will wait for 22.04

do you prefer light theme or dark ?
@BeastOfCaerbannog me too, i am waiting for 22.04
i will change sources.list and then upgrade

Both, depending on the time of day. I use the Night Theme Switcher GNOME Shell extension to automatically switch my theme.

ohk
it seems good
lemme try it too

11:53 AM
@someone You won't have to switch sources manually to upgrade from 21.10 to 22.04, as there will be a proper upgrade path to it.

@BeastOfCaerbannog sudo do-release-upgrade

@someone Yeah. No problems with it so far.
@someone Yes

ok , i forgot about that
do you play any kind of game, what do you do when you are generally free ?

I rarely play any games on the PC lately.
Sometimes I play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo switch.

what do you do when you are generally free ?

11:59 AM
Relax, watch a movie, hang out with friends
Stuff like that

ok
great!
here is a tip: if you ever upgrade to gnome 40, make sure to have a gnome extention called blur my shell and dash to dock to minimize your anger
you will be very angry after loging in to gnome 40
@BeastOfCaerbannog can you help me with a command ?
how to enable and disabke dash to dock using termnal ?

@someone hahaha
@someone let me see

this is because every time i log in dash to dock don't work, i need to turn it off and on to get it to work, so i am thunking that i can probably set up automatic commands to run at startup to turn turn dash to dock on and off

12:14 PM
Run: gnome-extensions list
Find the full name of Dash to dock
and then run: gnome-extensions disable name_of_extension

dash-to-dock@micxgx.gmail.com

to disable it, and then: gnome-extensions enable name_of_extension
to reenable it

thanks a lot

No problem!

:)

12:18 PM
