Q: Can't extract a large zip file

hamidizip file is told to be correct. can't extract by unzip. i think because such a large file is not supported by unzip. it's a 34GB file. is there a way?

i tried the command line unzip. i get the following: file #66350: bad zipfile offset (lseek): 38631718912 and file #65841: bad zipfile offset (local header sig): 35508700841
it seems that unzip is not ready for such a large file
i tried also 7z (the command line tools), but it didn't work either with no error.

@hamidi or the zip file is corrupt or incomplete!

yes, or, but how can i make sure? at first step, i prefer to accept the integrity of the zip file. because during making it, he didn't get any error.

Use the shasum from the source if avalable or or zip -T existing.zip

what is it? calculates shasum for a file, like md5 or something? how can it help?

2:18 PM
Did you run zip -T name_of_zip_file.zip?

no, but it will certainly be erroneous. the same thing is happening in unzip. if there's no support for such a large file from unzip, there'll be no support from zip too.

hi

hi

are we there?

i'm here

2:21 PM
ok zip and unzip are the same
they just do the opposite of each other's work

sure

please run zip -T file_name.zip

ok
zip warning: unexpected signature on disk 0 at 1145498486

zip warning: archive not in correct format: Files_downloaded_by_AirDroid.zip
zip warning: (try -F to attempt recovery)

zip error: Zip file structure invalid (Files_downloaded_by_AirDroid.zip)

it might take some time due to file size
there u go
it's not a complete zip file

i thought so, but it didn't take any time. it prompted the response.
can i rely on the zip -T output?

2:24 PM
yes you can

ok, so let's go into the source of the problem

it reads the file header so it would be fast
you have to re-download that file

i've a folder in my android device

and pray your internet won't mess up

by airdroid i send it to ubuntu as a zip file. this is how the file is created.
no it's not downloaded from the internet

2:26 PM
your android can handle flle of that size

airdroid made it

what's in there

about say 10000 files

files of what why do you need it to be in ubuntu?

i can't copy the content to the PC by cable. because file manager of ubuntu times out while reading the content. so i decided to try airdroid
i need it to be moved into ubuntu because my cell phone has no room

2:28 PM
ok
then
ensure your connection to ubuntu is secure and good so you can move it
use a cable not blue tooth

the ubuntu detects the connection and mounts the device
i'm using a cable

ok
then repeat it

i also have wifi adapter attached to my pc

as it seems not to have moved the file

i tried the cable several times with no success

2:31 PM
what type of files are these

i can't move via cable. everytime it times out because of large number of files.
mostly images. lots of tiny images
reading the content takes time for ubuntu

how are you moving them from the command line

oh not moving from command line
by file explorer

what is the size of your free space on ubuntu

enough
308 GB

2:32 PM
ok

it event doesn't have opportunity to begin moving

are u connect now?

timeout occurs before moving (during calculation and analysis)
yes

ok
open the terminal

ok, then?

2:34 PM
cd /media/$USER

it doesn't mount there

where is it

otherwise i could move it with no problem
let me examine
mtp://[usb:003,007]/

let me connect my phone
one moment

cable connection to android devices is usually not reliable, especially when # of files is not less

2:37 PM
ok trying to find mine

you may require to tap on 'allow' on the device

ok
connect ure phone then select media device
it's here /run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A002%2C006%5D
are we ok

please hold on

ok

ok. i did

2:42 PM
ure file explorer shiuld open up
run
cd /run/user/1000
are good

yes, but during move, it tries to calculate the content size and timeout occurs during this calculation.

one step at a time please
are we in /run/user/1000

yes

run
ls
are we good
here is the content of mine
Alarms CloudDrive Download media Notifications Ringtones
Android com.facebook.katana govr MojingSDK Passing_Through.mp3 system_O01
Bach_Suite.mp3 com.facebook.orca HuaweiBackup Movies ___PhoneBackup Touch_The_Sky.mp4
backup custom HWThemes mtklog Pictures WhatsApp
CartoonCamera DCIM Love_Me_For_Me.mp3 Music PlugPDF.log Wi-Fi Direct
are we there

i'm trying. just wait

2:47 PM
trying what?

indeed ubuntu is trying to show the content
now i'm seeing the content
inside the content is the folder i'm going to move
it's named Telegram.2

that doesn't look like a zip file
i was expecting Telegram.zip

oh a misunderstanding happened. airdroid maked the zip file 'on the fly' from contents of this folder. there's no zip file in the device.
the zip file is save on ubuntu

then do cp -R Telegram.s ~/

ok let me examine
ok, i did this:
mv /var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp\:host\=%5Busb%3A003%2C015%5D/Phone/Telegram.2 .
my pwd was ~/t
then the command:
watch 'du -sh Telegram.2'
has remained at 8.0K
in another words, the content is not being moved
now i'm going to try cp...
oh i got:
mv: cannot access ‘/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A003%2C015%5D/Phone/Telegram.2/Telegram Images’: Input/output error
mv: listing attributes of ‘/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A003%2C015%5D/Phone/Telegram.2/Telegram Images’: No such file or directory
mv: ‘/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A003%2C015%5D/Phone/Telegram.2/Telegram Images’: No such file or directory
mv: cannot stat ‘/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A003%2C015%5D/Phone/Telegram.2/Telegram Video’: No such file or directory
mv: cannot stat ‘/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A003%2C015%5D/Phone/Telegram.2/Telegram Audio’: No such file or directory

2:56 PM
please can e move with some order
your commands are off

e move?

change into the Phone directory

the cp command didn't help too

please try and follow my lead

ok
now what i do?

2:57 PM
that's because you seem to have done it wrong
run
pwd
let me see that result
or go into the Phone directory

/home/hamidi/t

no

oh u mean i cd?

where is that phone mounted
I see /var mine was /run

now i'm in /var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A003%2C017%5D/Phone

3:00 PM
one moment
run
ls
and let me see tha result

AI Factory Stats/ Aparat/ Download/ Notifications/ Podcasts/ Supergram/ Telegram.2/ hamidi/ tmp/
Alarms/ DCIM/ Movies/ Pictures/ Ringtones/ TISService/ WhatsApp/ quran_android/
Android/ Documents/ Music/ Playlists/ Samsung/ Telegram/ airdroid/ secured_com.samsung.smartviewad/

now
run
cp -R Telegram.2 ~/

ok
before everything i should thank you for your assistance. going to run

ok welcome

it's running, but du -sh result indicates that nothing is copying. (remained at 12K)
cp: cannot access ‘Telegram.2/Telegram Images’: Input/output error
as i said before, cp and cable connection is not a reliable solution.

3:08 PM
are these files all images

no
images, audio, video and documents
but it doesn't differ, it has stopped at the first step.

perhaps in place compression then move will help provided your phone has the memory to accommodate
how did you know it was 34GB

iPhone connection to PC via cable is reliable and i've had no problem until now. but android really sux

well there's not much else I can suggest

it was moved to PC by Airdroid. better to say it was made on PC
ok. thanks anyway
anyone else has any other suggestions?

3:12 PM
@DavidFoerster perhaps you have a suggestion?

thanks for your time George in trying to solve the problem.

ok all the best then

3:39 PM
@George With what precisely? Extracting the Zip archive or copying files from the phone?
@hamidi: Does the Zip archive reside on a local drive or is it on the phone?

it's on PC, as i said before
anyway, i just posted the solution.
thx

It would really help my understanding and that of future readers with similar issues if you edit your question to explain what exactly you did, what you tried to achieve and what happened instead including all error messages.
