@NathanMerrill I've never had a synchronization issue in SpaceChem that couldn't be solved by sync instructions

I agree, but sync commands take up space and time
Both of which you are trying to optimize out

@MartinEnder If you play more Subnautica, I recommend installing some quality-of-life mods. I didn't use any mods until I almost completed the game and wished I had.

Which ones do you recommend?

Lemme check my folder
More Quick Slots, Running with Tools, Better Scanner Blips, Custom Beacons
Depending on how annoying you find the crafting, there's also stuff to make it easier and more automatic, but the ones I listed there are the ones I consider pretty much pure UI improvements.

@NathanMerrill I think a large part of the difficulty of SpaceChem comes from the tiny reactors. It means you often have to optimise a solution (in terms of size) before you can even try out whether it works. In OM you can just build really big to begin with and then optimise once you've got a working solution.
@xnor ah thanks. I was wondering whether the game would have a built-in way to give you more quick slots later. Really weird decision to limit it to 5.

Yeah, I always felt like I had to juggle those for no reason and kept selecting the wrong one

Do you know if there's a mod that pauses the game while you're looking at the tablet thing (or a good reason not to use such a mod)? It feels like an unnecessary realism feature that makes me skim all the scanner entries where I'd rather take the time to read them normally because the world building seems really cool.

6:21 AM
@MartinEnder In-game there's an buildable item called an office chair that pauses game time while you sit on it

Ah okay, that's fair.

I also had that issue
I wish actually there was a way to pause time to read in the wrecks I get the tablets, so that I still had the context. Maybe there's a mod for that.
There's a lot of cool attention to detail in those that matches the stories
There's a "PDA pause" mod that sounds like that, though I haven't tried it

I'll check it out

Installed all of those mods now, but I probably won't get around to playing before Sunday or next week. Thanks for the recommendations though!

@MartinEnder can you zoom out in OM?

I don't think so

or scroll around the map?

yes you can scroll

how do you do that?

uhhh, mouse wheel drag? right click drag? something like that.

11:52 AM
Ah, right-click drag did it. Never would have guessed that

So...I've been playing sigmar's garden. I just got the "Win 25 games goal". Is there another goal after that?
Aka: when does the dialog stop?

There's achievements up to 100, I think. I don't recall whether there's still dialogue at that point.
That one's my favourite zachtronics solitaire so far.

It is quite fun
Not on steam, so achievements matter less

Right, I just meant as potential evidence that the dialogue might continue until that point.
Random person on the steam forums says dialogue goes up to 100.

2:02 PM
Dang, just binged the heck out of DoodleChaos, forgot about him existing

DoodleChaos is cool and all but this dude did the entirety of one of my favourite albums in Line Rider (well not actually "this dude" because it's a reupload, but the original was removed from YouTube).

Bummer, Vimeo's blocked at work

How about snotr? (Whatever that is...)

No dice
What album? I can draw free handed squiggles on my monitor if need be

I wanna meet the person who thought "snotr" was a good name for a site.

2:11 PM
@Veskah This Will Destroy You (by a band of the same name)

Oh, I read the URL and thought it was a lame clickbait title :^)

haha, no it's a bandname picked by edgy teenagers

As is tradition

2:25 PM
@MartinEnder I find globalization amusing. One of your favorite albums is from a band from the US, and one of my favorite albums is from a band in Europe.
A Storm in Heaven by The Verve, incidentally.

I didn't even realise The Verve were British (not that I ever even thought about it)
but yeah... other albums that could be contenders for my favourite would be from Swedish, Japanese, British and Canadian bands...

Streetlight Manifesto's The Hands that Thieve or Somewhere in the Between are strong contenders for my favorite album
They're American and so am I but I wanted to share them anyways
Toh Kay, the singer for them, also released an "unofficial" acoustic cover called The Hand that Thieves which is also extremely excellent

Hmm, I really don't know what my favorite album is. But I think most of the contenders are American

3:19 PM
Hmm

The entire Arkham series (except for origins) is on Epic's free game of the week, along with lego batman

oh wow. That's incredible

Yeah, they're all incredible games too.
(At least Arkham is, can't vouch for lego batman)
Knight is the only one I haven't finished. I think I nearly 100%'ed city too

If this continues, my Epic library will be worth more than my steam library. And I still haven't spent any money

Ack, I couldn't get into the Arkham series, but I think that's because it holds true for most open-world games that I play -- I get disconnected from the game because it's more like a collection of mini-games than a narrative I can follow.

I've seen this before, but I didn't realize hempuli was part of it.
Oh, also apparently Hempuli made Environmental Station Alpha. Did not know that either

haha
he's pretty amazing

@MartinEnder Is ESA good? It looks really similar to Axiom Verge

Nah, it's amazing. It's actually the closest any MV has come to scratching the Hollow Knight itch for me.
(That "nah" refers to Axiom Verge :D)
There's a video on youtube comparing ESA and AV quite well, but I think it has spoilers for both, so don't watch it if you want to play ESA (which you should).

9:30 PM
Maybe that'll tide me over until Hornet comes out :D

Yeah, especially if you don't play it immediately after Hollow Knight it should tick most of the boxes. And it genuinely has the best implementation of a very common MV upgrade trope.
I actually think the only thing that Hollow Knight genuinely does better is that its lore is absolutely unparalleled, but ESA's is still better than pretty much any other MV's I've played (and I guess HK is prettier, but that's a matter of taste on one hand, and on the other ESA actually uses its minimalist art style incredibly effectively).
But other than that: tight combat mechanics that reward evasion? check. Memorable and varied boss fights that require you to learn the boss's patterns and survive instead of face tanking? check. A sensible world map where the placement of biomes isn't arbitrary? check. Lots of optional, interesting and tough post-game content? check.

9:46 PM
@MartinEnder That sounds amazing

10:18 PM
@MartinEnder which one has better exploration?
that's why I loved HK
being immersed, discovering a new world. (I don't care about the lore, just the immersion feeling)

I'd say HK is a little bigger, but not by much. And the great world layout really helps with immersion and a sense of discovery. So I'd actually say equally good if you don't care about the lore.

Sounds good.

(I personally think the lore adds to that a lot, but overall ESA really isn't far behind HK on anything.)

11:04 PM
@MartinEnder Beat Celeste! :) I loved the design of the last chapter.
A little sound design detail that I loved: Gur cvnab ng gur raq bs gur ynfg puncgre unq qvssrerag/zber erfbyirq pubeqf.

@DJMcMayhem I got sidetracked. Never finished the windy area. Perhaps I'll go back
