@PhiNotPi Can never go wrong with BenQ

I've been using 27" Dells for years and am very happy with them

12:47 PM
@PhiNotPi Can confirm: Dell makes some pretty decent monitors. I've been using my 30" from them for ten years without issue.
Well, not quite ten years ... but pretty close.

Hmm, what's the minimal number of pieces in chess needed set up a scenario where you must break a check using en passant

Interesting question
I suspect 5 (not counting the 2 Kings)

I think it can be done with 2 kings, 2 pawns, and 1 queen.
Of course, both players would have to cooperate to get into that position.

You can definitely do it with KPRRkp
@El'endiaStarman how?

White to move.

Nice

I've been really getting into chess recently. I played a fair bit growing up, but now I'm starting to play more regularly and use analysis tools (mostly just lichess)
A funny situation that happened in a real game I'm in:

5:17 PM
I've only ever played casually with friends/family. I've always felt intimidated trying to get more into it, because it's a very drawn out learning curve.

@El'endiaStarman that position doesn't seem like it is impossible to get into at endgame
I mean, white moving queen is a mistake there, but black getting cornered there doesn't seem unrealistic

No, it's not an impossible position or anything, but moving the white pawn two steps forward is not the most likely (or best) move.

oh yeah, for sure. I think the move is to move the queen to G6 and force the black pawn to move
Oh, actually, I think it is King F4
then Queen G5 mate.

@NathanMerrill Then Kg6. You don't wanna do that. :P

whoops, typo. Queen G7 :)

I was also confused and had to count squares to make sure I wasn't missing something

Ooooh...in StS, I'd love it if they had Combo classes. You have the cards/relics available to you from two classes. You don't get special starter cards or relics, but you do get 2 orb slots if you are including defect.
It's like the prismatic shard, but now it is something you can figure out how to play
Because prismatic shard is almost always terrible because it is hard to find, too expensive, and too variable to be good in the middle of a run

Ah yes, Ironfect, Delent, and Siclad

+ 3 more with the new class :)

7:24 PM
I'm so excited for that

8:07 PM
Saw some gameplay footage of Creature in the Well over the weekend (Steam link). Top-down hack-and-slash pinball roguelike. Not exactly something I'm interested in, but it was different enough I figure I'd share here.

I don't think it's a roguelike
There are permanent upgrades, from what I can tell. It's a dungeon crawler though
It does look really pretty though
I don't understand how you aim those balls, but if it works, it looks pretty fun

9:06 PM
Probably a roguelite. Real-time and pinball basically disqualify it from being a roguelike by purist standards anyway.

9:34 PM
Right, sorry. Still don't know how it qualifies as a Roguelite
Like, besides the dungeon crawling (which is already a genre), I don't see any similarities

Couldn't watch the trailer, so I don't know if there's any permadeath/procedural generation. I think those two are enough to call it a roguelite.

I don't know what to do with my life anymore
