Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt on Wednesday signed into law the strictest abortion ban in the United States, one that prohibits abortions from fertilization and allows private citizens to sue those who help women terminate their pregnancies. reuters.com/world/us/…
Of course once those fetuses become elementary school kids, the GOP considers them free target practice for any psychotic with a gun.

> The legislation Democrats in Congress are most hopeful they can pass are mandatory background checks.

This would require gun sellers to verify a purchaser does not have a criminal history or violent mental health problems.
But such a rule probably would not have prevented the Uvalde school shooting.

"The gunman had just turned 18. He had gone and legally bought two rifles. Unless he had a criminal record or violent background, a background check would have done nothing," Smith said.

"The gunman in Buffalo had passed a background check."
however, you can get a gun in Australia. we never banned guns outright
there's just one key thing in what we do
(2) An applicant does not have a genuine reason for possessing or using a firearm if the applicant intends to possess or use the firearm for any of the following reasons—
(a) personal protection or the protection of any other person,
(b) the protection of property (other than in circumstances constituting a genuine reason as set out in the Table to this section).
we don't allow self-defence as a reason to have a gun
which i feel gets used as a catch all for anyone getting a gun in the US, assuming they are ever asked for their reason (though i suspect a "your infringing on my piracy" to be uttered in that case)
like the gunman wouldn't say when getting a licences or the rifles "yeh man i'm getting a gun so i can kill a bunch of children" and expect to get either then right? easier to just say "self-defence" if ever asked

@Unionhawk nani?
@Memor-X And really if its for home defense, a pistol maybe. An AR? you are dumb as rockss
AR are not good for the close quarters that are a house.

> A heart-wrenching video has surfaced on social media of terrified and frustrated parents outside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas reportedly demanding that police officers storm the building as the killer rampaged for over an hour before his barricade was breached and he was taken out.
I've seen other reports about officers going into the school to get their own children out

For the person who flagged that message, "You are dumb as rocks" clearly wasn't meant for the person Fredy is replying to.

@Spevacus At least 2 people flagged it.

I think several people flagged it.

Not the first flag in this room either, so I think someone is combing it.

at first i thought it was my message being flagged and i was like "wait, did i say that?"

Yeah, it caught a second one as I was typing up that message. I can see how it could be construed as offensive, maybe, but... Not really, imo?
Oh well. Handled now, by you I presume Mast.

Technically it's handled by multiple users, but I can't comment on that :-)

Oh, yay for counterflags.
Or countermods?

Flags, counter flags, meh flags and mod flags. Those are the technical terms.

"Not sure" choices count as raising a "meh" flag? Interesting.
I thought that was just a way to dismiss the notification if I wasn't sure.

A: What does the "Not Sure" chat flag response do?

user311528The "Not Sure" flag response counts for approximately 1/5 of a flag: The "meh" votes are taken into account with a ratio of 1:5 (and rounded downwards); in other words, for every five people doing nothing with the flag, we deduct one from the net count. -- balpha The 'net count' in context...

3:16 PM
@Fredy31 why's that?
@Wipqozn i feel like this happened before

@Memor-X The accusations happened a while ago, but I don't think there were any charges at the time. At least not any in the UK

@BradC yeh.......
> [Department of Public Safety Lt. Christopher Olivarez] told KENS 5 that once a tactical team arrived, they shot Ramos.

Police officers rushed into the school to get their own children out of the school, he added.
this is going to be a bigger nightmare

Nothing new.

I'm not well versed in gun manipulation, but logically the long barrel makes it hard to easily whip around and move in a house.

And well, if you riddle the guy with bullets its not one hole you will have to patch

> A fourth-grader who was in the classroom told a CBS affiliate television station in San Antonio that the gunman began shooting before entering and then came in, crouched down and said, "It's time to die."
Holy hell
