I'm reading back the chat and I saw this in a Wipqozn post from the 9th:

> with many now offering four weeks of vacation

... these are the moments I realize how good we have it in the netherlands. That's not a bonus, that's our legal *minimum*...

@Elva Yeah it's fucked
Our legal minimum for salaried workers is 2
or full tiome workers

Yeah, our law is "Everyone who works gets four work weeks of vacation per year"
So, you work 32 hours? You get 4 * 32 hours of paid time off. Etc

Exactly how it should be
2 weeks isn't enough vacatiopn time
4 weeks is barely enough
The purpose of our lives shouldn't to be ground into dust to help hose capitalisms wheels turn
Same thing with 5 day work weeks

Yeah

should be 4, with 3 days off, which people find wild.

2:26 PM
Four day work weeks are good though

Except... do you really think you should be required to spend that much of our life helping making someone else rich?

From experience

Yes. Everyone knows that, too.
People always talk about how they like to spead their vacation days out to make a few 3 day weekends... should be a sign
We very much so live in burnout culture

@Elva Same in Belgium: minimum is 20 days. Then in a lot of companies they do what's known as ADV ("Arbeidsduurvermindering"): in Belgium, the legal work week is 38 hours per week, but a lot of companies work 40 hours per week and give every 12 extra days off work to compensate

2:54 PM
No legally required minimum paid vacation days in the US, at all.
I mean, any company that actually wants to hire workers will offer some, though, and once PTO is offered, then (depending on states) there are legal requirements for the company to honor those terms, or pay out unpaid PTO

3:31 PM
@BradC yeah, but since when have legal requirements stopped companies from doing scummy things

"Oh, you get this benefit at 36 hours? Hey why don't you work 35.5 hours?"

@Elva not even that, i know some people who've worked for companies that have straight-up reneged on PTO agreements
sure they can take it to court, and they did, but the part of the whole thing with these laws is that they're supposed to be preventative as well
