Okay cool but also, like, way to time that

6 hours later…

@TimStone Well it's probably been available for a while. How else would they slip it into the vaccines?

@Wipqozn I have a great, amazingly on-point story that would beautifully complement that bit of sarcasm. It happened 24 hours ago. And Goddammit, I don't have time to tell it right now. You know that means I'm swamped.

Cheney excommunicated from Republican leadership for Trump criticism reuters.com/world/us/…
I'm starting to think the GOP are objectively evil
Nah no way
> U.S. House of Representatives Republicans on Wednesday voted to remove Liz Cheney from their leadership, punishing her for criticizing former President Donald Trump’s false claims that last year’s election was stolen from him through election fraud.
This party has the support of half the country. America is broken.
> Cheney's critics said her criticism of Trump's false claims about the 2020 election distracted from party messaging about Democrats and President Joe Biden's agenda. House Republicans held a secret ballot to oust her from the leadership.
Just toss them all in jail, holy hell
I just don't understand how a party THIS obviously corrupt has so muc hsupport
and yes I know the answer
because they've been basically brainswashed their base for years
> Representative Adam Kinzinger, one of the few House Republicans publicly defending Cheney, said in a tweet, "I believe our open lies are an absolute abdication of our duty, and it is shameful." Kinzinger was referring to the false claims made by Trump and echoed by others in the party that there was widespread voting fraud in the November election in which Biden defeated Trump, who has claimed that he actually won.
> The move against Cheney also stands in contrast to McCarthy's decision not to act against Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz. The House's Democratic leadership stripped Greene of her committee assignments for past incendiary remarks that included support for violence against Democrats, while Gaetz is the subject of a federal child sex-trafficking probe.
like seriously, just toss them in jail

They've criticized Fauci in many ways for a long time, but Tucker Carlson (and others) are now trying to blame him for the existence of Covid in the first place. Here's a WAPO article analyzing this:

There's a very long article on Medium that is the source for the core claims about Fauci and Wuhan (the topic is more general, about whether SARS-CoV2 could be the result of gain-of-function research in Wuhan). That article is far more believable than most conspiracy theories, and some points in there are likely good. But some points are almost certainly heavily overstated, and the entire thing seriously biased

@MadScientist yeah, that's the article that Tucker and Rand Paul are taking as "this 100% occurred" and extrapolating further as somehow being Fauci's fault? When the article is actually saying something more like "we can't fully rule out this vector like we previously thought" or something much more nuanced
Meanwhile Tucker is all the way down the road on "indict Fauci!!"

The article is quite heavily pushing the lab escape theory, just with some careful language
and the Fauci link is explicitly in there. There is an NIH grant for coronavirus research in Wuhan, and according to that article Fauci granted a waiver for the ban on gain of function research. That the grant exists is official, I haven't looked into the second part

Ruling paves way for longer sentence in George Floyd's death apnews.com/article/…
> In his ruling, Judge Peter Cahill found that Chauvin abused his authority as a police officer when he restrained Floyd last year, and that he treated Floyd with particular cruelty.
That's literally what happened, yes

Speech to text?

Bingo! :)
And total gibberish

3:40 PM
Yes! Yes! YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Alaska Rocks!!!

Alaska Fund cheque came in?

@MBraedley Better!
Remember the Georgia runoffs??
Anchorage mayor is like that.
In MANY ways.
I think I swung more votes than my guy is going to win by.
And I've been rooting for him to take hold for years
Told you, Lisa! You could have been on the side of the angels here!
You were sooooo close!
HA!
(a bit premature, I know)
but still
HA!

@Jolenealaska Yeah, don't count your chickens before they're hatched
Like, you might end up on /r/prematurecelebration otherwise

well it's not like I can do anything more now.
:)
yes, yes, yes.
A bit of egg on the face is occasionally good for the skin.
BUT NOT TODAY! :)

North Carolina GOP House Candidate Defends His Photos From Hitler's Vacation Retreat m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5f32f340c5b6960c066d6972/…
I'm starting to think certain members of the GOP might be actual, literal nazis
nah, couldn't be
> A Republican congressional candidate in North Carolina first archived, then reinstated, photos on his Instagram account from a 2017 vacation to Adolf Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest retreat after a recent news article about them.
He denies it was because he's a nazi of coruse
AND YET
> According to Jezebel, however, the candidate has named his real estate company SPQR ― a term popular among white nationalist groups ― and has allegedly displayed Betsy Ross’ version of the American flag, which the Anti-Defamation League says has been appropriated by far-right militias “among other Revolutionary War-era symbols.”
Old, but discovered this since this in resposne to the GOP member being removed due to not supporting Trumps attempt overthrow of democracy:
> Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye Liz Cheney
well I just closed the tweet by mistake so it's gone forever
annnd now I can't find it
oh because I was on his wrong account
thisguys compeltely fucking insane. What a shocker.
Discovered this whole trying to find that tweet

4:51 PM
Yeah he's the one that vacationed and was like "Visiting Hitler's summer house was on my definitely-not-Nazi-related bucket list"

5:04 PM
@TimStone I once again thank you for making me feel a little bit better about just how terrible our own politicians are.

@Wipqozn ... he does know that the Romans were/are basically Italians, right?
so i heard on the radio that the gov. of utah wants fully vaccinated people to stop wearing masks in public because vaccine-hesitant people need to see a visible incentive to get a vaccine
to which... maybe you should enforce mask mandates then? because when i see a person without a mask in public right now, my first guess is not that they're fully vaccinated.

1 hour later…
6:41 PM
> Given all this, it’s impossible to chalk this effort up to “cowardice” or “fear of Trump.” It is a deliberate action plainly undertaken to manufacture fake evidence for the affirmative purpose of further undermining faith in our electoral system going forward.

Nova Scotia has joined the provinces ceasing the use of Astra, at least for now.
@Yuuki I doubt it. He probably thinks they're as white as can be.
Hollywood loves whitewashing all historical figured

@Wipqozn I really don't think that's a good idea (unless you have no supply of it anyway). The side effects are still very rare, and COVID19 is dangerous
I did get vaccinated with AZ very recently, and my danger of actually catching COVID is relatively small

@MadScientist We're at the point where 40+ year olds can get one of the mRNA vaccines anyway, and the risk analysis for AZ is worse for those under the age of 40.

I thought Canada was far behind the US in vaccinations, did I get that wrong?

(And by "get" I really mean "schedule and appointment 2-3 weeks away")
We're catching up

I'm below 40, and not in any group that gets priority. But AZ is unpopular, so you can get appointments even if you're not in line yet if you're a bit lucky

@MadScientist we were, but we're doing better now, since we actually have vaccines
