12 hours later…
12:33 PM
TL;DR: Queen Lizzie wasn't laughing at her husband being "disguised as a palace guard" in that image (that was his ceremonial uniform). She was laughing at her guests being attacked by a swarm of bees.

2 hours later…
2:54 PM
can bet you they will keep finding things to charge her with to keep her locked up. no need to worry about loosing the next election of the opposition leader is arrested

2 hours later…
5:17 PM
the White House is being rocked by a major scandal t.co/H8SJen2scS
I'm starting to think conservative news media is complete garbage

5:30 PM
O'Toole will vote against MP's private member's bill on sex-selective abortion cbc.ca/news/politics/…
> Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole says he will vote against a private member's bill introduced by a Conservative MP which would make performing a sex-selective abortion a criminal offence.
> O'Toole did not say whether he would direct his critics to vote against Bill C-233, also known as the "Sex-selective Abortion Act," which would make it a criminal offence for a medical practitioner to perform an abortion solely on the grounds of the sex of the fetus.
As appalling as I find the idea of aborting based on sex, a person should not need to give any reason for an abortion.
So I suspect this is just an attempt to get some anti-abortion law into law as either as a first step, or just some attempt by the Conversate MP to use this being voted down as a way to call liberals and NDP "sexist".

6:35 PM
Yep.

Reports of shooting at Knoxville, Tennessee high school with multiple victims - police reut.rs/2QdgxEB

9:32 PM
@Wipqozn Oh God. Not another one!

@Jolenealaska Sadly, yes.
Really not looking forward to another round of "Thoughts and Prayers" and "This isn't the time to talk about gun control."

I was home with family for Columbine. Remember when these things were shocking? I cried my eyes out that day.

9:49 PM
@Wipqozn i own guns and i want to talk about gun control
i bought a handgun and it took all of fifteen minutes. there's no way a proper background check could've been done in that time. i get that most people aren't going to flag anything on relevant gun ownership questions, but i think that it should at minimum be an overnight process

I find guns scary, and I'd be far more scared of doing something stupid with it than any possible situation where I'd defend myself

I had never touched a gun until basic training.
I discovered I was really good with one.

Carrying a loaded gun mostly made me uncomfortable, just a bit uneasy. And I really wouldn't trust myself to use it well in an actual crisis, so in the end it would be purely dangerous
I'm a terrible shot ;-)

guns are like computers, they do (shoot bullets) what you tell (trigger) them to do. the problem with current gun ownership is that, depending on the state, politics push really hard to make it super easy to acquire a gun but none of the lobbies or politicians care too much about gun education
i'd feel much safer with our current gun rights situation if gun education was either (or both) mandatory or state-funded

10:04 PM
I've seen a soldier in basic training shoot a blank at the ground while trying to unload the rifle, I don't have that much faith in my fellow humans there

if you're going to make guns so widely available, then education on use and responsibility needs to be paramount. i don't agree with guns being freely available while education is so lacking

Education would help with the whole toddlers shooting toddlers epidemic in the US, but it really doesn't solve all gun problems

driver education doesn't solve all vehicle-related fatalities, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. it's really more of a bare minimum than a silver bullet

A gun was accidentally discharged in my apartment and in my general direction just a few weeks ago. THAT wasn't on my 2021 Bingo card.

Did someone press the trigger?

10:09 PM
Yep. My friend shot himself. At first I thought he shot his foot, but he shot his hand.
I nursed him for several days before he finally went to the ER.

Why did they have the gun out in the first place, and the finger on the trigger?

Because he was being an idiot.

yeah no, my guns are staying in their cases when i'm at home and i'm not about to go show them to anyone that comes over

And he is always armed. It is an unusual friendship. I have begun tutoring felons. I know some very dangerous people.
That man is a convicted killer, a former enforcer for the deadliest gang in Anchorage.
I prefer having him as a friend than as an enemy.
He calls me Auntie.

You have weird friends

10:18 PM
i mean, do you see the diamond next to that name?
i figured that was a big hint

I used to have a diamond, I probably also have weird friends, but none anywhere close as dangerous ;-)

This is a first for me too. It just kind of happened. A whole lot of drama, really fast.

wait a second, societal discrimination against felons aside, i thought possession of a firearm by a felon was a felony in and of itself? texas has some limited circumstances, but texas is texas
iirc, you can still possess a firearm on your own property after five years have passed since release

It probably is totally illegal for him to carry.
But Alaska has very loose gun rules.
So I don't know.
If you're interested in Gaetz-gate, this Rachel Maddow take on it is el bizarro:

10:56 PM
in more jokey news, i heard that trump denied gaetz a meeting so i guess gaetz really is like a son to him

11:18 PM
lol
